  1. Very old supporter - or more precisely "ancient" thinks this is a good idea. An appropriate time to start particularly as we should be in the Premiership next year - albeit amongst the "making up the numbers brigade". I think we would always need a speaker or a panel as an additional attraction but this should not be a problem bearing in mind the number of ex-players/long standing supporters living locally. It would also be fun to meet some of these strange people who contribute to this site. Speed dating sounds good - what is it. !!!!Good luck
  2. I assume it was Neil Adams who changed Bradley in to a left sided attacking player. He is now seen frequently in the box and has scored far more goals than in the past even compared with lower divisions. He is clearly our most improved player. He has always given 100% and can certainly mix it in midfield. I hope he maintains current form.
  3. The point is we were weak and thin on the ground in midfield and Redmond and Lafferty/Bennett out wide were luxuries we could not afford. It appeared that Hooper had been pushed forward slightly but was receiving no support from midfield. The tactics were simply long ball down the flanks. Not against that, as a change in attack from time to time, fair enough, but not as a sole attacking approach. Hooper and Jerome had been combining quite well recently albeit the number of offsides was unacceptable.
  4. I think McNally has messed up big time. Did he seriously think an unknown player manager from a small time Scottish Club was likely to gain the respect of half a dozen internationals, albeit that none of them are that great. Having made a good deal in bringing in Mike Phelan it was blindingly obvious he would not stay particularly as AN was bringing in his own coach. This team need a straight talking experienced manager and certainly the more sensible approach would have been for Phelan to be given his chance. We seemed to be tightening up a bit on Phelan''s arrival but it was total Press Hype to suggest AN''s arrival from the stand at Bournemouth made any difference. On the other hand I would accept there are too many managers on the merry go round who keep floating between Clubs but are not a lot of use in the long term.
  5. Can see no reason to play Bennett. He just has not moved on since coming here. Anonymous on Saturday. He has had enough chances, I would let him go. I thought Hooper and Jerome were beginning to look useful and developing a good understanding. Admittedly Hooper had a poor game against Brentford but appeared to be playing more up front but of course we did not have a midfield. So would stick with him at Birmingham although fail to understand why the experienced Jerome was caught offside on so many occasions. Difficult to name a side as we have several doubts through injury. By the way why do we have so many players out injured !!!
  6. Most worrying for me was the naïve tactics of our rookie manager. To bring in Whittaker as our defensive midfielder, or whatever he was supposed to be doing, coupled with four up front including two widemen, left us dreadfully exposed in the "engine room". Johnson battled manfully in an attempt to plug the many gaps. It was blindingly obvious from the start that Lafferty wide left was a luxury we could not afford. Bringing on Bennett in a wide position made no difference and indeed it seemed Redmond was slightly withdrawn to accommodate him. To sub Hooper with Hoolahan and then shortly thereafter bring on Grabban did not make sense. However overriding everything it is clear AN in next to no time has passed over our passing game with the long ball approach. It is OK now and again to mix things up, but not as our only form of attack. The defeat was not a lack of hunger, it was our lack of quality particularly the number of offsides we walked in to. Overall Brentford with their attacking instincts and quick thinking thoroughly deserved their win.
  7. As Ricardo suggests our midfield looked a little lightweight today with both Redmond and Lafferty on the wings. I agree. Once Cardiff raised the tempo we struggled to gain possession. However we saw a lot of good attacking play with Hooper/Jerome beginning to really click. Redmond''s final ball was a lot better. So I suppose you cannot have it all ways. Manager''s tactics with subs again interesting. As at Bournemouth his theory seems to be the best form of defence is to attack. Murphy would have been the last player I would have brought on in the circumstances, but by keeping him upfront and wide it does deter the opposition from all out attack - if you are still with me !!! Ruddy again looked shaky and does not command the box and you can see this is affecting the other defenders. If Swansea offer 5 million for Ollson - I would bite their hand off!!!
  8. That latest pic can only mean one thing Mike Phelan will not be here for much longer. I sit some distance away but I cannot recall Mike leaving his seat throughout the match.
  9. I agree with others that Olsson just does not seem to be up for it this season. He gives the impression he wants to be away. Shows very little urgency and the attacking positive runs are spasmodic. Yes you could get £5 million for him but then have to pay a similar ridiculous amount for someone who may not be much better. I suspect his agent is keeping the pot boiling as all part of the football merry go round.
  10. Having seen their last two games on TV I am at a total loss as to how they are in 3rd position. Their two "star strikers" have been more or less anonymous and actually do not look that great. As was stated last night their midfield is weak. I know I must be a bit biased but I will be amazed if they finish the season above us.
  11. I am quite comfortable with McNally. He is an experienced straight talking guy and knows his football inside out. I have found him down to earth and approachable.A bit hard to say his managerial appointments have been disastrous. Hughton had a reasonable record and if Adams had been another Dave Stringer we would have been happy. The first time I saw Hughton''s defensive set up I was not impressed but that was the way he saw it to keep us in the Premiership - for at least one season. As regards Adams, the players have not been giving him 100% and to be honest I cannot fathom out why. I do see McNally as being a bit of a hard man when it comes to money, but we can''t have it always.
  12. Definitely not. Has already walked from us twice. Funny chap. If you read Jeremy Goss book he describes how he knew Martin very well as a fellow player. When he returned as a Manager he did not want to know and portrayed himself as a hard man type manager in the style of Brian Clough. Very poor man manager. Avoid him.
  13. Darth Catbeard is correct. I would agree that the players he mentioned were not giving 100% and recently I would also add Redmond. There is something seriously wrong when the likes of Hooper and Grabban show little emotion when they score. I do believe there are agents in the background who are stirring things up with an eye to the transfer window and earning themselves big bucks. Yes I feel sorry for Adams, a genuine guy, but the players have badly let him down. Big problem now, are there really any good managers about ???
  14. Nutty. You must remember that with all his Twitter followers, Mr Fry is very important to the Club, despite the fact that he never turns out for Board Meetings etc !!!!!
  15. Arguably it is sharp practice to pressurise supporters to pay up so early. In effect we are paying over a year in advance to see a game scheduled for next April. The Club are currently not short of money so there is no great need for us to pay now. Its just all part of the "greedy football treadmill". Obviously McNally has us over a barrel because we might be in the Premiership next season - albeit to make up a fixture list for the big boys !!
  16. Good stuff Shaun. Butler and Gunny just rambled out the usual excuses and failed to make one relevant observation about the lack of passion, tactics and quite frankly little interest shown in trying to win. It is totally unacceptable that this experienced squad have hardly had a shot on goal in the last two games. I am not sure Adams is a motivator at this level and I wonder if Phelan is a very good backroom man but again cannot instil enthusiasm on the pitch. As regards Adams there is a huge difference between managing young keen lads and experienced pros who have agents behind them purely interested in their next moves. Accept that Dave Stringer crossed that bridge but there has been a massive change in the money side of the game since he retired.
  17. Listening to the commentary. Same old stuff and does not sound as if we will score. We have barely troubled the Preston keeper. Hope it all changes. Comment just made "we do not seem to have the guts to get anything out of this". Simply just not good enough. Several players are letting this Club down. Whilst I do not directly blame Adams, nevertheless it is clear the players are not performing. Very depressing.
  18. There is something wrong but I cannot put my finger on it. On paper we have a far stronger side than both Bournemouth and Ipswich who are turning out sides with most players I have never heard of. I think it is a case of passion and enthusiasm and this is reflected in our best player being Bradley Johnson. We do have a number of players who are not young and hungry and people such as Ruddy, Ollson, and Grabban appear to be just going thro the motions. Ruddy has been slow since his serious injury. Howson, one of the best players in the Champs on his day, disappears for long periods. Redmond is must frustrating. Somehow he continually fails with his final ball and really should be scoring more goals. Overall the team are not as fit and are lacking in fight compared with the Lambert days. I am amazed that Adams does not seem to realise there is no leadership on the pitch. I admit I have still not really convinced myself of what''s wrong. Having swamped Huddersfield and Millwall how on earth did we not turn up in the first half at Reading. When we went to Portman Road even my Ipswich mate said we were different class, but now the Tractor Boys score for fun. Ricardo must know the answer !!!
  19. Bearing in mind Derby are highly rated in this division, they were very very average. We certainly controlled most of the match by packing our midfield but there was an awful amount of short possession balls to players who were tightly marked. Our side had better players in most positions but there was not a great deal of quality, but of the two sides we deserved to win. We looked fairly comfortable in defence and I personally thought the penalty was harsh in that our defender just went to play the ball, but Chris Martin got in front of him and was tripped by the follow thro.I suppose credit to obtain a point but I felt the likes of Howson, Hooper, Tettey and Johnson produced nowhere what they are capable of. I accept this was partly due to Derby''s tactics which mirrored us i.e. kept it very tight with little ambition.
  20. Very fair report. An incredible turnout which I would put at well in excess of 300. As expected you could sense there was a strong feeling of dissatisfaction with the current team performance but I believe not one word was mentioned re "scouring the continent for the new manager". I did predict the reticent Norfolk audience would not ruffle many feathers. Being far more cynical than Ricardo I thought the community video showed the Club in a good light but was partly included to take the heat out of difficult questions. Maybe I am more cynical than I thought I was. At least I had the satisfaction of voting against Stephen Fry as I was far from convinced that nobody was aware of his whereabouts and McNally''s defence did not get me excited. The question raised re lack of motivation because of the 40% pay cut. I noticed the Chairman nodding in agreement but quite rightly Neil stood by his players.
  21. I will be surprised if there are any fireworks tonight. Last year Hughton was wide open for some strong criticism but so far as I can recall hardly a word was made against him. He and the Board had an easy ride. Tonight we will see another long presentation explaining how well they have done financially albeit that this was purely due to an excellent manager we had a couple of years ago. Alan Bowkett is an experienced tough operator and although he invites questions he is fairly forthright and I expect the usual Norfolk reticence will prevail. I wonder who will be brave enough to remind him that sitting with Neil Adams on his appointment at a Press Conference, Alan Bowkett said he was exactly the type of manager we were after !!!
  22. Our highest paid director received £1,119,000 (£1,640,000 previous year) plus £71,000 pension contribution. Included in the first figure is £367,500 for achieving financial targets. (£867,000 previous year) Seems a strange bonus when you have overseen relegation by a manager he appointed !!! But that''s the crazy world of football these days.
  23. I see no point in a change of ownership. What on earth will that achieve. We are financially stable and the problems are simply on the pitch . Adams is taking a lot of flack - but are the players justifying their massive salaries. They show little passion and their energy levels are far below the Lambert era. The last thing we want is some dodgy financier whose only interest is milking the Club for their own advantage.
  24. I think Adams quickly realised the fans did not want a repeat of Hughton''s organised defensive style and has encouraged individuals to express themselves and attack. This was evidenced early in the season when players such as Johnson when they found themselves in an attacking position in the opponents half continued with the attack. I would agree with these tactics but what has gone wrong is that we have not organised backup cover - hence the number of breakaway goals we have conceded. I believe we still have existing players capable of achieving promotion but we need to show more teamwork, passion and urgency. In the early part of most games we are not starting with any great purpose and not applying pressure. The great "Grant Holt enthusiasm" is sorely missed. As Ricardo states it is difficult to see exactly why we are not getting the deserved results. Apart from Middlesborough it has always appeared that we are quite comfortable against what are very mediocre teams.
  25. Our main weakness has been the slow build ups and lack of moving the ball quickly as we approach the opponents goal. Plus of course a loss of confidence in front of goal which has not been helped by the quality of the final ball in to the box. I am afraid Wes would make no difference in these areas which need rapid and quick improvement.
