  1. Definitely more "continental flair" from us this season, although I can't remember anyone diving for penalties or anything too blatant. It's the same with time wasting - everyone does it and while it'd be nice to take the moral high ground, I'd rather take being competitive thanks.
  2. It's about 12 minutes in on this video. Really great footage of his celebration. They deserve it for singing about Mings stamping on his face, but it's unusual to see a player really stick it to the opposing fans like that. Love it.
  3. At 3.55 does he really say he was "more focused on winking around in the stadium"? 🤣
  4. Interesting that their recruitment has been exclusively UK and Irish players, and quite a few youngsters too. I always liked Neil and I think he'd have probably done better with us now under the present structure. It was tough for him with very little experience coming into a team with high expectations that were chasing promotion and then having to manage in the premier league with limited finances and then again after relegation there was the pressure to bounce straight back up. In contrast it feels like Farke has benefited from lower expectations and has had more time to bring in players and get them organised into his style of play.
  5. Seeing it all together like that shows what a fantastic finisher he is. Great piece of recruitment by the club too. I know he didn't do much at Celtic but he'd been banging in the goals for Brondby and would have been on other clubs radars in the Summer I'm sure. Love the 'Chanel 9' commentary as well.
  6. Excellent read. I think regardless of any dodgy dealing by agents, when all is said and done the blame for the crash is going to be put onto the dead pilot. It's very sad, but ultimately he's responsible for the flight although we may never know what pressures he may have been under. The cost of a proper private jet seems cheap now, and surely any of those involved (McKay, Cardiff, Nantes and Sala himself) could have afforded it. As to McKay being ashamed, I'd imagine it's been a fair few years since he was capable of that emotion.
  7. Rivo definitely my favourite co-commentator. Also loved this from the Bolton forum:
  8. I thought the atmosphere was pretty good overall. There was definitely an edge and an excitement beyond a regular fixture. The pre-match video and commentary was a nice touch. I don't think we played particularly well and I was frustrated in the first half when we appeared to be slowing the game down at only 1-0. I felt that we had more gears and could have blown them away if we'd upped the tempo in the first half, but you can't argue with the final score. Our players seemed relaxed and I'm sure Farke and the coaching staff had done a great job preparing them so they didn't get carried away by the occasion. A bit of a flat performance but 3 points and business as usual. If I was an Ipswich fan I'd be more worried about my own team. I thought it was really telling how their players reacted after the game shaking each others hands and patting each other on the back. You wouldn't have thought they'd just lost 3 nil to their local rivals and were bottom of the league. They didn't even look resigned, they just didn't seem to care.
  9. I think that's about right. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.
  10. His post match on the radio was hilarious - could he not see the game from where he was in the second half?
  11. Stiepermann's biggest problem is his tendency to take one too many touches or hang onto the ball too long. I've lost count of the times I've shouted shoot or pass a second before he's tackled or runs into a dead end. However, it's a bit like the criticism of Krul - he does a huge amount for the team and if he was perfect he probably wouldn't be playing for us. I think being 'cute' as sonyc put it is something we've been all season. Whether it's the way Buendia puts his body across the ball and invites the opposition player to push him over or how Leitner constantly complains to the ref throughout every game. Maybe it's the continental influence, but like it or not in the modern game it's normal that players will go down if they believe they are fouled and a free kick would be to their advantage.
  12. He was fantastic today, and regarding his temperament I thought he kept his cool today better than he's done in the past, particularly given the occasion. It's all the little things he does that make him such a standout for me with chasing, harrying, tackling and always wanting the ball and looking to make things happen. He has great feet but what makes him such a talent is his speed of thought playing those quick passes that can create a chance out of nothing.
  13. Agree Buendia was fantastic. He's one of those players who is far better than his highlight reel suggests - yes he makes lovely passes and touches, but his energy, running, pressing and tackling is what lifts him to the next level. Ironically I've always thought Vrancic was the opposite - a player who looks great on the highlights but can go missing for parts of the game. Not so yesterday. He was everywhere, tracking back, winning tackles, making things happen. Fully deserved man of the match and his best performance in a City shirt.
  14. Never mind a footballing ban, what about GBH, section 20 at the very least? From the video it's clear Mings looks down before planting his foot flat on Oliveira's face with full force. Disgraceful.
  15. Not only a huge tragedy for those involved and a potential financial loss for Cardiff, but it's a scandal that with all the money in football he was flying in what was at best a grey charter, and at worst a completely illegal flight. It seems the flight was arranged by the agent and an intermediary at no cost to Sala using a pilot contact they had worked with before (although he wasn't the pilot flying on this occasion). How much would it have cost to use a commercial private jet company with an Air Operator Certificate and pilots with proper commercial licenses and ratings? How much did they save using a plumber with a private pilot license in a single engine aircraft? The agents fee was reportedly £2.5 million.
  16. https://www.efl.com/news/2019/january/efl-statement-leeds-united-and-derby-county/ The regulations they refer to are of the general bringing the game into disrepute sort that you mention, but they then go on to clearly state that the "alleged actions appear to contravene the Club's Charter". It's a perfectly reasonable reading of that statement to conclude that the charter contained an agreement not to do this kind of opposition research and in fact it makes sense for clubs to agree this for the reasons I gave.
  17. If this sort of thing was expressly prohibited by an agreement Leeds signed up to then they should certainly be punished by the EFL, although I'd be very surprised if it was anything more than a slap on the wrist. As to people who seem to be saying what's the big deal, well presumably the clubs felt it was a big enough deal to agree not to do it in the first place. I would assume that this agreement was put in place so clubs weren't forced into a spying arms race with ever more elaborate surveillance and counter-surveillance measures needed in order to gain any small advantage they could. If everyone agrees not to do it then it saves them all the bother.
  18. I think this is another area where we've missed Leitner's influence. If you watch him in games he is constantly in the ref's ear about one thing or another. It's a tough job though for the refs - take Buendia for example, yes he's likely to be the victim of deliberate clogging to stop him playing, but he's also going to draw more accidental fouls by virtue of the way he plays. He's also not afraid to make a bit of a meal of things when it suits either.
  19. I think most of this "magic of the cup" stuff is media driven. Listening to 5 live after the game they were pushing the same old nonsense about how players and fans would choose winning the FA cup over promotion if only the mean old money people running the clubs would let them. Which is cobblers of course, because it's been nearly 40 years since anyone outside the top division won the FA cup and with the odd exception it's always one of the big names that wins it. The reality is that we have a much better chance of promotion than we do of winning the FA cup, so if it's a choice between promotion or a couple of extra games before going out in the 5th round, I think I know which most of us would choose.
  20. Will give Hanley the benefit of the doubt and say he mistimed his challenge because if he's gone in there to take their player out and risk a red card that's a poor decision so early in the game. Of the "new" players I thought McClean did really well and Passlack showed some nice touches but I think we should return him to Dortmund and see if they have him in a bigger size. I know Marshall was playing out of position, but he looked awful to me. On the positive side Godfrey is looking more and more like the real deal - big, strong, quick, versatile and very comfortable on the ball. I just watched Michael Bailey who didn't seem impressed with Srbeny, but I thought he had a good game in the Stiepermann role and I'd be happy with him as backup. I was really surprised when he came off instead of Rhodes, who might as well not have been on the pitch for all the impact he had.
  21. I felt exactly the same when I saw it. Much as I love Klose and Zimmerman, neither of them has ever been accused of having much in the way of pace.
  22. "Burton Albion have beaten more championship teams this season than Ipswich Town". https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0001q0v 30 minutes in. Ho Ho Ho.
  23. I've had the blank screen before - make sure all ad blockers and other browser extensions are disabled and try reconnecting to the vpn a few times. As has been said they seem to be banning IP addresses so you have to keep trying until you get one that works. Looking forward to a couple of home games over Christmas now.
