willo 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Just tweeted his kids are moving back to Carlisle having finished school here....Now, we are no at the end of any school term and I was under the impression he bought a big old house in Hethersett, so can we conclude he is off in the summer if the family are back up North as he seems a real family man?I wonder if another striker swap is on the cards re Hooper? Seems though that Holt is on his way to me this summer....
shefcanary 2,956 Posted February 8, 2013 Have to say that was my first thought on reading that. He mentioned on a tweet a couple of weeks back that he was getting funny looks whilst asking for boxes from a local store for moving stuff recently, but he was quick to dampen down any immediate thoughts of moving. However given how much he clearly thinks of his daughters even if he was to stay for a long period, then he will likely be up and down the country pretty regularly, which I am sure would have an impact on his fitness levels. That surely isn''t ideal for him, his family or the club?
4th floor 4 Posted February 8, 2013 There was a newspaper article a couple of weeks ago (mentioning a possible swap with Hooper) which stated that Holt''s family had moved back to the North West. At the time it was dismissed as rubbish on here but maybe there was some truth to it after all.
Number 9 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Willow,, Hethersett = correctTerm time = half termBe sad to see him go but will have to eventually and hopefully replacement will move club forward.
Gaz06 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Don''t understand why his family really want to move back up north. Norwich is a much nicer place to live than Carlisle! These Northerns need to man up!
willo 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Number 9 give or take a week, Old Hall School is next Friday, 15th.But yes seems likely move is on the cards in the summer..
TIL 1010 5,246 Posted February 8, 2013 There was mention last April that his wife was house hunting in Carlisle and when his transfer request was put in a lot of posters put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5. Holty was also said that he intends to move back north when he hangs up his boots so with his kids having virtually all of their education in front of them i see this as no more than him putting his family first and getting them settled in a new school rather than uproot them halfway through their education. If and when a poster comes on here and says his girlfriends fathers workmate is a neighbour of Holty and tells us his house down here has a for sale board in the garden then and only then wi;ll i think he will be off. Not Nigel 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Grant Holt has his silver plated 3 and a half year contract, with a likely significant pay rise.Unless he goes on a big scoring run and bangs in 8 or 9 goals between now and the end of the season then the chances of him getting as much money as he is on now for three years is extremely slim.Does anybody really think that he will sign for some Championship team up north for less money on a shorter contract? It wouldn''t make sense to me.The only Premier league teams near Carlisle that he could potentially play for are Stoke and Wigan. We''ve never heard of any interest from either of those teams, and the latter won''t be handing him a three year deal when they are so close to relegation every year..... not even a Wigan type signing, they usually buy players who are young enough to flip for profit. At the end of the day we have no idea what goes on in the private lives of players, for all we know he could have a sick mother-in-law or father-in-law who his wife wants to be near, or maybe they are just used to spending long periods of time apart, like many footballers and their wives......... when he moved to Norwich he owned one house, in Carlisle.... and we signed him from Shrewsbury. Before that he was at Nottingham Forest, so prior to his wife and kids moving down.... the last time that they would have lived together would likely have been in 2004 to 2006 when he played for Rochdale which is commutable from Carlisle. He only has a few years left of playing football, and if they have been long-distance for five or six years already then it probably just isn''t a huge issue for them. I''ve seen a streetview of his former Carlisle house and whilst it looked pretty impressive it was only a £250k to £300k house. As you would expect from a lower league journeyman. Paul Lambert never purchased a place in Norwich, he lived in a rented flat, we can''t expect every player who plays for us to stay and live in Norfolk forever.... reminds me of the League of Gentleman.... Norwich fans don''t want his wife to discover the new road which leads to non-local places.
Number 9 0 Posted February 8, 2013 Is someone going to let Hooooton know?Seriously, if this is planned in advance, it is to be hoped that a a suitable candidate has already been lined up to be number nine ( I might have been approached, cant say too much yet) and the small matter of club captaincy to be resolved.Cue message board overheating as I type. ca 1 Posted February 8, 2013 All a bit strange as he only said on the 3rd July 2012 '''' I had no intention of leaving, I just wanted a 3 year contract so now I''m happy, "My wife and children are settled here, so I was delighted to finally get it all sorted."Not going to be ideal seperated from his family midweek and having to drive all those miles each week to see them.If he''s here next season I''ll be surprised. nutty nigel 7,902 Posted February 8, 2013 Well the three year contract works both ways. If Holty isn''t here next season the club will have done very well over that year extension they gave him. Quids in!
Well I Never 0 Posted February 9, 2013 Seems to me that he is reverting to a style that we have seen before. When we first came up to the Premier League, Holt obviously found the step up a struggle. It was almost embarrassing how often he would so easily go down in a challenge to try to win a foul, rather than take on the defence. As his confidence grew, and the attacking support of the side improved, we saw Holt getting back to the more positive side of his natural game, and the goal statistics backed it up.I just feel that in the last few encounters Holt has started to revert to the same tactics that marred his game in those first few months of Premiership football.Holt is obviously not reacting well to the lack of service and more negative approach to attacking (not knocking Hughton totally, he needed to do a lot of work in defence) and unless we see a bit more frequent quality service and freedom in his role as Striker, I fear we will see no more of Holt at his dangerous best. Guest Posted February 9, 2013 He''s off in the summer, think we''ve all worked that one out. If you follow his twitter you''ll know how much he loves his family so I doubt he''ll want to be parted too long.

Rolf Harris 33 Posted February 9, 2013
agreed inch high - I think he will be off come the summer.
As long as we get an exact or better replacement then I think we should allow this and appreciate every this man has done. NWC 318 Posted February 9, 2013 If we want to progress we need someone better than Grant Holt.Don''t get me wrong - love him to death and alll that, but if we are filling the role of a first team player we should always look to replace with someone better. ZLF 335 Posted February 9, 2013 Agreed che; my note was brief but dont take that as critical, was purely a factual post (of my opinion) that he will leaveWhat he has contributed to the club is a tale that will be told for decades to come, and rightly so. ZLF 335 Posted February 9, 2013 that rumours does persist so may be something in it and I could go with thatbut would still want a better striker than Hooper at the club - I think both GHs are of a similar standard
shefcanary 2,956 Posted February 9, 2013 Perhaps a deal has been done, Carlisle to Glasgow only 90 minutes by road. We''ll see.....
smooth 114 Posted February 9, 2013 Twitter really just winds this all up. But we do need two strikers to come in that are better than holty. Lets look to Europe as we did and if hooper does come then good. Holty got his contract and he needs to prove he is worth it.He will be picking this up even if he is on the bench. Holty has got what he needs. But the contract extension must now be justified, or in three years time we will look at a a lot of money tied up in a player who stretched it out. Google Bot 3,936 Posted February 9, 2013 Listen. Who''s to say the blimp he had at the start of the season wasn''t just his wife and he being home sick and them deciding as a family to move back closer to home? This may have led to the falling out between him and the club, and the additional contract would''ve offered him a more settled option here which he was looking for? However, since Hughton/Calderwood have come in he clearly hasn''t been able to be the player he was, still works his guts off, but just not the goal poacher he was.I think his mind is solely set on moving back home now again, I don''t think he''s happy, but at the same time he''s still going to give his all for us.It must be very hard being both a professional AND a very passionate family man in this business when you''ve got a homesick family.I really feel for the guy personally. While I''m probably way off, something along these lines is being played out.
shefcanary 2,956 Posted February 9, 2013 Hmm, my first thoughts about this living apart would not be good for him - already out with a bad back, probably caused by all that packing and loading up of the removal lorry!!!
