Huckerby released

Recommended Posts

Absolutely gutted, especially with his end of season form. However, it cannot be said that he has been ultimately disappointing this season and probably didn''t deserve a new contract.

However, he''s still and always will be a legend at this club and he''ll be back soon enough - probably as one of us, sitting in the stands.

Thanks, Darren.

Thankyou so much Roeder for not telling us ( he said he knew ''weeks before'' ) that you were not going to renew Huck''s contract and thus not giving us the opportunity to give a true Norwich legend his rightful send off.  Brilliant Roeder, you really should have been a banker.  Fool.Good luck Huck''s in the future. Legend.

Totally agree, lost a lot of respect for Roeder after this. He could have said something before Sunday, given that he knew and we had nothing to play for. Gutted.

I will certainly be getting his name on the back of my shirt.

Not since Eadie has a player filled me with such excitement and pride.

Legend.

Wish we could have just given him a contract, his name alone on the squad-list is enough to strike fear into any opposition coach.

absolutely gutted.

Yes something should have been said, Dion is a legend but so too is Hucks and has done more for the club in his time in my opinion.

Another gutless decision by the board and manager - not the decision to release Huckerby - but to wait until the season had ended before making the announcement that Roeder has said that he has known for some time. I never want to hear Doomcaster say again that we are regarded as a well run club because this proves we are not.

Whatever you do Darren Huckerby good luck.

This is terrible news. Huckerby is not only an absolute legend but by far the best attacking player in the squad. I have pretty much understood all of Roeder''s key decisions till now, but this could really come back to haunt him and us. The fees we paid for Croft and Chadwick show that Huckerby''s are not easy or cheap to come by. I think this is a personality clash, which Roeder has allowed to get in the way of his judgement and perspective. I also fail to see how announcing the only senior player to leave a week or so ago would have been a problem.

Where next for Hucks? wish him all the best but really hope he doesn''t go back on his word and play against us.

Goodbye to a genuinely exciting player. You''ll be missed.

I have to agree that the release of Hucks has been badly mishandled by Roeder. Why on earth he couldn''t have said something sooner, so that Hucks could have the chance to say a proper goodbye to all his many fans is beyond me. Having said that, it is a very bold decision on the part of Roeder and I wish him the best of luck in finding a better replacement for Huckerby. We will now see how good Roeder is at attracting quality players to Carrow Road.

What can one say! Ok he was not at his best this season BUT he was injured and no one even Glenns new boys made him look anything other than a class act. I have to say I am absolutely gutted as he is one of the main reasons we have done so well and survived the last two seasons from relegation. Many many times he has been worth the entry fee by himself and I fear Glenn has got it way wrong to release him. Many many many fans will be very sad to see his departure and will wonder why someone who in the last few games showed real class is being released.

Glenn now has a mountain to climb to win the fans over and I fear another Grant debacle with Glenn out by October since the fans will turn on him very quickly should results and play reflect anything like the last few months of this season. Darren will be snapped up by some other team certainly a Championship one if he would play for them,I  bet other managers can not believe their luck to get him on a free!

I suspect Glenn struggles to cope with "big" players that is players who are class and know it hence his fixation with youngsters and why he has failed in the second season at all clubs he managed. I hope I am wrong BUT have that gut instinct I am right. Glenn has really misjudged this one

Can''t agree more, a true cult hero. It''s a real shame we weren''t able to give him the send off he deserved, for goodness sake he''s been the only thing worth watching for much of the last few years.

"Oh Huckerby..."

Absolute disgrace...

I would now love Roeder to tell us how he is going to get somebody as good as Huckerby with very little money to spend.

We''ve now got to replace somebody who we already had and was settled at the club aswell as strengthening the other areas of the team we need too.

For the sake of offering an extra year this could have been avoided.

You had better have something pretty special up your sleeve Roeder !

So Roeder saves us from certain relegation to the third tier of English Football, and we have a little bash at him because he didn''t mention Hucks wasn''t to be offered a new contract. Honestly, the man is a genius. From where we were in the table, with morale at an all time low etc etc after Grant, he has come in and turned things around. So what he didn''t mention it? Maybe if he did mention it weeks ago, it would have had an adverse affect on the team, and we know where that got us before...thank you Mr Grant! Understandable that fans alike wanted to give him the send off he truely deserves, much the same as what Dion recieved, but don''t start bashing the manager after what he has achieved in his little time at the helm down here! People are too quick to knock...and that doesn''t help confidence levels in any environment...so get behind them next year, and keep the moaning to a minimum!!!!

Utter, utter disgrace the way this has been handled and I am ashamed of the way Hucks has been treated. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of the decision (and I personally think it is wrong but will judge it by what Roeder gets in this summer) there is a right and proper way of handling things and announcing Hucks is off alongside 8 fringe/youth team players is an absolute joke.

Roeder knew this was happening, the Club knew this was happening so why has it been kept quiet until it is too late to give him a proper send off. In the meantime Hucks has had to watch Dion (who is a great bloke but has done nothing for us in comparison with Hucks) lap up all the adulation and attention. Roeder has gone down massively in my estimation over this and I will find it hard to forget it. I think they have also misjudged the mood of the fans horrendously.

Finally if they try and shift extra tickets for the Greatest Ever as a chance to say goodbye to Hucks then that will only darken my despair.

Very disappointing news. Do we know that Huckerby actually wasn''t offered a new contract Pete, or did he turn it down? The article on the Pink Un leads me to believe it was the former, in which case you have to wonder what the hell is going on.If we offered him a contract on reduced terms and he didn''t want to accept, then fair enough. Otherwise, this is extremely disappointing news given the amount of tributes Dublin got. Indeed, Huckerby has been a far more important player for the club than Dublin, so to not have the opportunity to give him a send off is very frustrating!

He may have done a decent job since he came in but the way he has handled this is indicative of the side of Roeder i really do not like at all.

Absolute disgrace...  Yes and no... depends on the transfer fund

I would now love Roeder to tell us how he is going to get somebody as good as Huckerby with very little money to spend. thats an assumption, he may well have some money, we don''t know yet... to get rid of hucks though - he MUST have money to spend.

Well GR hasnt brought himself much time with todays decision, not only the decision but the way it was dealt with.   If we get off to a bad start then he will be under more pressure then Peter Grant was, and alot sooner. We, as fans cant do anything but sit and hope the board have the right man and GR has some amazing pulling powers in the market.    At least it will be a busy summer.

I have to agree with everyone else here.

I am gutted that Hucks has gone. Also gutted that we could not give him the send off he deserved.

I wish Hucks all the best of luck in whatever he does next.

"OH HUCKERBY"

Absolutely gutted, the guy is a City legend and I can''t believe how badly this situation has been handled. We are going to be hard pushed to find anyone who can give the same excitement and vigour to the club the way Hucks did.

I suddenly feel much more nervous about next season......

Absolutely gutted. Its so pathetic they couldnt tell the fans so that the last couple of games could have been a send off for both Dion and Hucks. How do you think he feels having seen Dion get a good send off and nothing himself? Its sickening and so insulting to Hucks and the fans.

I understand that the reason Roeder will have done this is because Hucks was too expensive to keep. Its the only logical explanation as Hucks was easily our best player. But an even more worrying prospect is losing both Dion and Hucks from our dressing room. I don''t see anyone remaining with a bit of character to get the other players up for a game. Just look at the impact losing Iwan and Malky had. They were the true leaders that we had and now we have no leaders at all.

All you can say now is that Roeder better make same damn amazing signings (on probably a very limited budget) in the summer or things will be looking very bleak.

Im devestated I honestly always thought that we were going to keep him and now feel robbed of the chance to say goodbye to one of the greatest heroes that Carrow Road has seen. To me one thing stands out Martin Peters has put him in his Greatest XI and he will probably not be the only one and we are letting him go for free. Normally we talk about how players have no loyalty and let the club down, but this time the club has let the player down and all the fans i will personally make sure that the club hear my views on the dusgusting way they have treated Huckerby and us by denying him (and us) the chance of a fitting send off, when sometimes in the past three seasons he has been the only player worthy of wearing the Yellow shirt.

Good luck Hucks!

Brave post Uplmm!

I''m as gutted as everyone else, but there was no nice way to do this.............and I have no way of knowing what went on behind closed doors at Colney.  Hucks has been dropping hints for weeks, I hoped he''d stay, but that was totally heart over head.

I usually try to stay positive and not whinge too much but this is a flipping disgrace.

We''ve just let the best player at the club go. I will be very surprised if we sign anybody who has anywhere near his quality.

Wrong decision, without doubt.

The more I think about this the more angry I get. What a disgrace. Dion''s departure at Hillsborough was moving but would have been nothing compared to one for Hucks. Roeder has made a massive backwards step here, he''ll have to work hard to recover.

Web Team - I know it''s early, but can we get some Huckerby tribute wallpapers going?!!

I am not surprised - the slience spoke volumes.I am a little surprised. I can only assume that the release was due to two things - the inability of Hux to track back, and therefore putting pressures on the midfield and defence, and the wage cost.I think that another year, perhaps coming off the bench when chasing a game, would have suited everyone. It''s difficult to think of another player in our price bracket who could be a devastating on his day as Hux. In the end , I can undertand GR but disagree with him.GR will have to find a replacement of some sort, or he will come under pressure from fans.
