Presumably wants to be first choice and we weren't offering that option.

Sadly not good enough in the area of the pitch he’s meant to specialise, ie defence.

Nowadays, the attacking side is more important than the defensive side for a full back.

I'm a bit surprised by this though. He's still very inconsistent with defensive lapses, but he's shown enough recently for me to want him to stay. It will be interesting to know whether it's his decision or the club's.

Might have been Wagner but somebody had previously mentioned that talks were ongoing. I personally think he'd have signed if we were promising him the starting role but I'd be surprised if we aren't planning on signing a new first choice.

Onel's videos could be entertaining over the next week! A bit different from the coffee/gym thing...

Although I get the sentiment of clearing decks. Releasing a relatively young left back who has good experience in the Championship seems a pretty brain dead decision to me.

You've got it the wrong way round mate. He wanted to stay, the club didn't want to keep him.

He is probably the one out of contract player I'd have wanted us to keep.

Does make me wonder if we are planning on a new leftback. I mean who else do we have Sørensen who seems to spend half of most seasons in a wheelchair (or playing at a different position every week..) and Dimi who's only just come back from injury and is looking rusty and way off of the pace.

Honestly rather looking forward to it. He's clearly someone who loves the club, and he often posts behind the scenes videos.. Will be interesting for sure.

I know the director of football and coach relationship and roles are different to a board and a manager - but surely you would have thought they may have waited for the new head coach to look some of the players over before releasing them? Less so the older expensive players - but certainly the younger ones on less wages.

Disappointed if this is correct as I felt he offered way more than Giannoulis overall and being young could be coached on the defensive side of his game where he is lacking.

Can’t afford his wages.

Stupid decision to me albeit we have no idea what he may (or may not?) have been offered. Sam is a perfectly capable Championship full back especially in the attacking sense. If we are going to get rid of him then what the hell will we do with rest of the squad!!??

He’s agreed a move to Stoke on better money

Certainly, on Wednesday's video - when he pans to the team training - you can see the light glint of a forward's balding pate! So I knew Barnes would be fit for the game on Thursday.

I assume Montaia is highly thought of at the club.

Gutted if true. A decent championship LB.

Goodness me. He's tidy enough but surely we'd write him off as injury prone by now.

Smacks of us signing up the cheap player and letting go the one on a decent wage.

Sorenson presumably getting a deal because we can expect a very slim squad next season and he's got some versatility.

Feels all wage based.  Sam is young with limitations but would have signed on a decent wage.  Inferior to dimi in all elements except heading so I assume we have a better lb in sight given dimi will also move on.

A new left back is surely someway down the priority order? The Barn Door should be moved on if anyone will take him. If not we should terminate his contract with (unfortunately) a negotiated sum being transferred into his bank account. Who the hell offered him a TWO year deal at his age?! Oh yes, the guy who had already handed in his resignation! Then of course there is the THREE year deal for the old plodder at centre half.

What a shambles!

No. 1 to keep

Can’t help wondering where this club is headed but prospects don’t look good

It took Farke one friendly at Luton to realise he isn't good enough. Defensively he is a nightmare.

Player with a book value of 3m. Mind you didnt we pay 6.5m for Giannoulis?
