Inferior to dimi in all elements except heading so I assume we have a better lb in sight given dimi will also move on.

I do think that McCallum has looked fairly good in this counter attacking Wagner side, but do wonder if he's got the composure with the ball at his feet to play possession based football or patient passing game, which might have been a factor in play here if that is Knapper is going with all of this (I hope so).

He's a funny one.

I wanted him to do well but he did not look like a player you could trust this season- just constantly caught out of position. He turns 24 around the start of the new season so while he's still young, he should be entering his prime.

I'm assuming we offered him something but he wanted more money than we were willing to give for him. Hopefully Montoia is an option but unless Dimi is renewed (which would be a surprise) left back becomes a big position of need.

That's very dissapointing as he offers a lot going forward.  Could be a useful midfielder.

Shame if true. If played as wing back in a back 5, we probably would've seen the best of him.

Most our full backs have been like that to be fair, I don't think you can rule out the system as being part of this.

Agree with these sentiments, just get the impression he may not progress much beyond his current level.

Still with him and Gio likely out the door, this does now become a priority position to fill.

Obvious questions are "has Dimi agreed a fair wage cut?" or "how has Montoia looked?" Surprised at McCallum going, he looked like he had more upside as his problems were more positional in nature.

That said, both McLean and Lungi have looked very competent there in the past too. Wonder if any of our centre-backs on loan have form for playing that position?

Seems a really great guy judging by the pre-season footage from Germany and his general demeanour.   What a signing that would be for Coventry if they got him back on a free and he made the position his, he's the type of player that will come back to haunt us if so.

Not too fussed. Nice lad, but we can do better. Or at least will have to do better if we want to challenge at the top of the table.

Have to wonder really, that if we had Bali Mumba the right wing back who Wagner said wasn't a very good right back, and McCallum the left wing back who isn't really a very good left back.

Why we wouldn't have kept the 21 and 23 year old, and just played f@cking wing backs, instead of giving a new contract to Onel Hernandez & spending money on tugboat Fassnacht.

Stacey and Giannoulis would be good wing backs also, so we'd have had two good wing backs for each side of the pitch.

Short termism has led us to where we are today.

I would love that to be fair, that would soften the blow.

Does make me wonder if we are planning on a new leftback. I mean who else do we have Sørensen who seems to spend half of most seasons in a wheelchair (or playing at a different position every week..) and Dimi who's only just come back from injury and is looking rusty and way off of the pace.

Honestly rather looking forward to it. He's clearly someone who loves the club, and he often posts behind the scenes videos.. Will be interesting for sure.

I should bl00dy well hope so considering both of ours are out of contract.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Norton-cuffy joining.

Goodness me. He's tidy enough but surely we'd write him off as injury prone by now.

Smacks of us signing up the cheap player and letting go the one on a decent wage.

Sorenson presumably getting a deal because we can expect a very slim squad next season and he's got some versatility.

He’s well liked around the training ground amongst staff and players. His wife is having a baby so he wants a definitive place the baby came be born etc.

You've got it the wrong way round mate. He wanted to stay, the club didn't want to keep him.

>"There's been talks but we've not agreed anything yet," McCallum said after City's win over Plymouth.

I read that as both sides were open to extending but they've obviously not agreed based on wages/playing time/ect

Does that mean Giannoulis is staying then? Otherwise seems bit of a daft decision.

Why would it mean that? He might but I'd suggest there's just as much chance we'll sign 1 or 2 new players (like we did on the right side of defense last summer).

Either that, or Knapper.

Sounds more like a 'wot i reckon'  comment to me.

Why would Sørensen tell people he's well liked at the club by staff and players. And why would that have any impact on Knapper giving him a contract?

"Yeah, you're not as good as Kenny, Gabby, Marcelino or Liam. But the tea lady likes you. So here you go, a new two-year deal "

Sounds like he's asking for higher wages than a second choice, and we don't see him as a first choice.

A shame but probably a small part of the transfer puzzle this season. I'd imagine we might be looking at a similar idea to what we have at RB- a prime-aged starter with a very youthful backup.

Worked for Onel.
