20 corners! Set piece coach working wonders then. One of Sinani’s corners near the end even looped out of play. Embarrassing

Embarrassing that we have England’s old set piece coach but create so little from 20 corners, and had numerous other free kicks from what might be considered ‘dangerous’ positions for anyone else.

The corners were actually quite decent, if anything they were too consistent hitting the 6 yard box.

Problem is our offensive headers are pretty poor.

Set piece wise I think we are not very threatening, so I am surprised we have not tried to be more creative

You do realise that putting set pieces consistently to the six-yard box is precisely what the defending side wants. I don’t think anyone needs coaching to do that - the guy is getting his money for literally no return.

The shot stat is misleading; as we kept hearing from Dull Dean, we have loads of shots. The chance of scoring from the shots is woeful though; we're knocking it around then shooting from 25 yards out on the bounce to the keeper because there is no better option.

How many of those shots were meaningful big chances though. One maybe? I don’t recall any other than onel’s rocket in the first half. Maybe hamlets header?

Freudian slip? 👀🤣 I was going to say Hanleys back pass was well "village", but I reckon your description is better.

Er that what I was saying; too consistent.

I'm not at all surprised as that was exactly where the target was on yesterday's training video.

We needed a bit of variation, they all went to the same place, back of the 6 yard box.

To be honest if you watch the Wagner taking coaching video there’s lots of players practicing corners and all they’re doing is chipping it into a big net in the 6 yard line! Nothing special about that a set piece coach should be looking to have four or five variations of each set play, then call the changes during the game!

Hanley has to be the least threatening centre half.. he he never scores!

Oh for another Malky…

I think you'll find that's for sale on ebay as we speak. We've been worse since we've had it.

Not sure they will find many buyers when it's probably covered in cobwebs and dust

That frame thing they use in training for corner kicking is ridiculous. It encourages lobbing the ball into the six yard box, rather than trying different spins and elevations. Yes, it might get accuracy and consistency.....but where's the penetration?  I'd like to see variety in corner kicks, not just lobbing the ball in, which usually makes it easier for defenders.

Good players should be able to vary their corner kicks. Too many of ours are just predictable - how many did we take today.....20?  It's like skill and variety are being coached of the game. 20 corners and no goals, or many near misses, is not a good look.

Get a player, someone with loads of skill - Nunez, for instance - and just let him take corners instinctively - otherwise we'll just see lobbed in cormers that make it look as if spontaneity and creativity are being coached out of the game. Get rid of these contraptions that purport to be "progressive" and allow skilful players to express themselves by instinct.

Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool use them, but they don’t get to many corners as they tend to hit the goal rather than defenders, but to be fair they do score lots of goals from free kicks.

Our ability to spend substantial sums of money on players who can’t score goals, adding to established squad members such as Hanley, Gibson, Aarons, McClean, Sorensen, Dowell, Hernandez, Sinani, Idah et al, none of whom know where the back of the net is, makes today’s stats no surprise at all.

Take away a mis-firing Pukki, and an inconsistent Sargent, it’s a wonder we ever score at all…….
