Table In Running

Recommended Posts

We are down to 8th and will drop even further in the next hour. Fans fault obviously, what’s going on?

We were fifth when we sacked Smith. If we do slide slightly, I'm sure we'll be criticised from people outside the club who look at league positions only.

and from inside from a deluded few.

Indeed. All that talk of our being in a false position and look at us now

Its a bit annoying that we didn't announce his sacking Friday morning now isn't it, so his wikipedia entry will show that we sacked him in 10th rather than 5th (could still be 11th if Coventry score).

We could have sacked him before the world Cup break and got a new manager in who would have had time with the players and to think of a system and style but hey ho 🙃

And if we had hung on for a draw against Luton he may well still have been here

That being said, win tomorrow and having broken free of the Smith shackles will shoot up 5 places. Unluckily, somehow, so could Reading.

We’d of been in the same position with or without smith. We’ve not played a game since he’s been sacked. Like d ream once said things can only get better. I for one plan on giving it my all tomorrow to make it the best atmosphere possible.

We were artificially higher than we deserved to be given our form, so now we're in a more representative position. Having said that, I think it would really suck if we don't make the playoffs given the squad we have despite its flaws. Hopefully whoever comes in can make some amends

Norwich were 2nd after 9 games

West Brom were bottom end of October, 14 points behind Norwich.
Now, just 8 games later, they're above us on GD.

Seems as though the rot started at the 1-0 loss to Burnley, which should have at least been a draw. We were looking shaky at times beforehand though.
Definitely the right decision to get rid of Dean.

Some little factoids I've looked through tonight. We've played 8 games against the current top 7 this season and amassed 4 points (all away from home, maybe Smith was right??) And 2 more losses will mean the most losses in a season at Champ level since we got relegated to League One.

We're also only 2 goals scored behind Farkes last jaunt at this level, only having conceded 6 more, but resulting in a 15-point deficit. My impression had been that our attack has been blunt this season, so perhaps the incoming manager needs to focus most on steadying the defence off the bat for the quickest payoff.

I read this thread title and was expecting some nice stats about the team's running performance / distance covered relative to other teams. Guess not.

We are in 10th position in the Championship Table. This is the true position that Dean Smith has left us in.

We weren't 'artificially higher'; we were there because we'd won the points to put us there. And we were fifth in the table at the point where we'd played every other team once.

Or was it that we were in the true position for weeks? And I think you will find it was months, during that unbeaten run.

"False position" has to be this season cr@ppest saying.

"We're in a false position" - win, stay top 6. October.
"We're in a false position" - draw, stay top 6. November.
"We're in a false position" - win, stay top 6. December.

Dec 29th. "Been sat in a false position for weeks!".

New manager comes in, gets some results. "We've turned it around". Back in top six "We deserve to be there now".

We are where the points we get put us, it is simply that simple. There is no such thing as a false position - it's a faux pas. The only very possible application is if teams have games in hand, but even then, it's only false in that the true position will be established when all teams have played the same number of games, so it doesn't make it false, just not secure.

Smith has gone, please can we just drop the absolutely awful attempts at arguments that have absolutely no merit now?

Not really though is it?

The teams that played tonight and put us out of the top six and in 10th by gaining points: Sunderland, Luton, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Millwall.

What do they all have in common? They have all played one more game than Norwich as things stand. The true position Dean Smith left us in was 5th - when all teams had played 24 games.

He has gone. Can we stop the utter stupidness please?
