Simon Lappin - complete joke

Recommended Posts

Anyone believe what they’re listening to on Radio Norfolk?  Simon Lappin is an idiot.

Not one word of criticism of the Board.

Having someone employed by the club as a Canary Call pundit is asking for trouble.

He just comes out with complete nonsense and is defending everyone from Delia, to Webber, to Gilmour. Anyone would think everything was rosy if they spoke to Lappin!

Don't know why they have him on anyway, he was always a nothing player.

A nothing player? He was a king! Show some respect.

I think it's more the problem that they use the guest summariser to field questions on Canary Call at the end of the season.

Generally they are fielding more football related questions like who should have been subbed on? Were the tactics right? Should the keeper have saved that?

At this point in the season, they probably need someone more neutral. Rivers is that.

He was sh*te. He's not some sort of Norwich legend or "cult hero".

Rivers is great on co-comms and Canary Call, they should have him on every week. Although admittedly I think he lives up north.

Gossy is also good but hardly ever on anymore.

Yeah, what a fool. Can't believe he's not slagging his employer off live on the radio.

Precisely why he shouldn’t in anyway be involved with the media.  He talked absolute nonsense.  Defending the indefensible.  Happily Jack Reeves came on and politely made him look suitably stupid.

Gossy is also employed by the club now. Despite some folks not liking him, I actually think Anselin is pretty level headed too. He's not without criticism but the way he puts it across may not be quite as animated.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. They don't change anything or influence it particularly.

Each call that had a go at the board was cut short by Butler.

Sorry that isn't right is it? One very calm and articulate chap laid it all down and was able to speak for a good five minutes relatively uninterrupted and was very anti board. He called for the club to be sold and for Webber and Smith to be sacked.

I cringed when he felt he had to make a desperate apology when someone said Delia needs to "sod off"

Have to say, that is his job. Broadcasting rules.

Though it does make me cringe when it always seems to be about Delia when she could literally sod off and still leave MWJ there... Join majority owners out, perhaps doesn't have the same ring, but doesn't sound as daft IMHO.

Each to their own - I barely ever listen as live in Surrey, but when I have done have always found Rivers ultra-miserable and far too critical (all from a pretty ‘meh’ player).  There has to be a happy medium.

For me, Greg Downs and Goss are head and shoulders.  Balanced, articulate and share their insight from an ex-pro perspective in layman’s language.

Always thought Greg Downes was pretty good at analysis.

When Jack Reeve criticised the clubs summer signings and accused the club of wasting money, Lappin gave the pathetic reply of "who would you have signed then?"

No , Simon. People at the club are paid a lot if money to head recruitment and scouting aswell as being armed with data analysis and dvd footage of every player, that you'd expect a multi million pound funded premier league club to have....not the ordinary fan in the street

If those at the club have made bad decisions, it is they who are accountable with their jobs

Yeah I noticed he was getting very defensive with some of the calls, including the one you mentioned and also the one criticising his Scottish buddy Gilmour, he started to get quite angry and defensive, which was ridiculous because surely he can't be sitting there thinking Gilmour has added anything this season. I think even Rob Butler chipped in on that one and said he's been useless.

Completely agree with you.  Lappin’s defence of the board today was pathetic. What an embarrassment he is.

Alternatively you and he have differing views on the club. It is possible.

Good point. This irks me when people on this message board do that as well.

”who would you sign then”, or “who are these people that Delia should sell too” is often the kind of retort given to any criticism.

You don’t have to have the answer to criticise the decisions this club has made. You can see the errors without having the solution. That’s what the people working at the club are paid for - to find these solutions and  the moment they’re getting almost all on field decisions wrong.

It’s the same with “who wants to buy the club then?” As if we would have any idea of the elites interested in this. Yet we do know they exist because most every other club in the top two divisions have been taken over by just that type in recent years. Whilst our board has stood still
