He needs to make some waves.....

Doesn’t this directly contradict FIFA and UEFA?

I bet if it was a top 6 club bringing someone in it would be waved through. Wouldn’t want unglamorous Burnley escaping their fate though now would we.

Surely if it's really about him fleeing Russia, why does he need a transfer for that? He could just leave. Oh yeah it's about earning money, right.

Well yeah, what do you suggest he does once he’s left? Should he be tied to a contract he can’t fulfill or allowed to go earn a living elsewhere? Surely he follows the same rules as others fleeing the conflict who will get the right to work?

Serie A and the Bundesliga have made a similar ruling so far only Spain has OK'd the deals.

It has been suggested that the players will be able to sign deals but not for this season.

This story has been cribbed from an unreliable source and is a load of bullrushes...🤩

As today is Mummies Day this is very appropriate.

The pedant in me must point out that Moses lead the lost tribe of Israel AWAY from Egypt.

So the reason is simply signing a player outside of the normal transfer window, potentially giving Burnley an unfair advantage over other clubs. Rather than anything to do with the situation in Russia per se.

Have I got that right? If so,that's fair enough

Being a pedant, if he's in Russia he isn't fleeing the conflict as that's in a different country...

Supposedly he's under contract to Spartak Moscow till 2024, so he's not a free agent unless FIFA/UEFA were prepared to rule his employment contract invalid.

Flights to and from Russia have been terminated, how to get out of Russia?  Could try by land Ukraine the best route Oh dear.

I doubt he's short of money though to be fair, he's hardly in the same position as say, someone who is actually fleeing from a war zone.

Under normal rules, clubs can sign free agents at any time of the season.  They pretty much had to because of the same rules as the Bosman ruling - to ban free agents from signing for anyone would be unfair restraint of trade.  The Football League has decided that the normal rule about signing free agents also applies to war-caused free agents.

The PL have decided the opposite.  They won't apply the normal rule and they'll chance legal action, because there won't be time for it to take effect presumably.
