Not good.

How can we convince Boro that Bassong is the best CB at the club, and it''s he who they need to sign post haste?

No better or worse than any of our other CB''s (Obviously aside from Klose) is sellable and is always injured for half a season. I''d rather he was moved on and we try and get someone better if we can get over 500k for him I''d be happy. I don''t think he''s improved in any aspect since he joined, bad signing Lambo!

£500k? He cost us £2.5m over 3 seasons ago! Why should we sell him for such pittance, no way could we replace him with such a minuscule amount! Can''t see us letting him go for anything less than £3/4 million, only just turned 26 as well so he''s got at least 5 strong years of football left.

Personally I hope we can keep hold of him, an overall less volatile centre back than Bassong, strong in the air too and can hit a good cross field pass. We need to keep the players who can perform for us at this level - no point ripping everything up for the sake of it - maintaining a core set of players is just as important as getting the new ones in - as we showed last time when we bounced straight back up. I''m sure most will agree that Bennett will likely be a regular for us next season over Bassong, certainly Martin at least, and not to mention the doubts over Klose''s future here.

Keep him if we can!

He was quite poor sometimes last year. Played well with Klose, but isn''t a PL centre back unless he is with a better partner - so he isn''t the dominant CB Boro will need.

Him and Ayala together will be relegation fodder.

£500k ?????? Now let''s get in the real world. Him and Klose would form a great partnership next season.

I think we should keep him at all costs unless we''re going to splash out on somebody better. He''s only got a year left so we ideally need to offer him a new contract!

Nothing can surely happen as McNally has left ? [:P] I would keep him and classify it as stupid to sell.

now you tell me why he would stay given the chance ?

we have a manager who played Martin at CB ! when given the chance

bennett was a better CB when he played than martin but the great young manager could not see it

the excuse that his missus went into labour for 5 games disn''t wash !!

AN only played him when forced to by the such bad form of RM the fans could see bennett was a better CB

Ipshit just signed a defender from league 2 for 500k now you think we should sell a former England u21 cb who is only 26 and has 113 championship/premier league appearances who is rumoured to be wanted by 2 prem sides in Boro and Hull for the same price. Wake up.

That''s true Norfolkngood. He made 1 mistake and would get dropped. Bassong & Martin were doing it week in week out and still getting picked ahead of him. When he finally came in next to Klose we looked better defensively.

Don''t rate him. He''s not a good enough defender to compensate for the fact he''s awful on the ball. He usually hoofs it out of play conceding possession and he''s not strong and commanding enough to make up for the fact his reading of the game is poor. Many times, despite having an otherwise great game he''d lose his man at a corner or get completely done in the build up by anyone with the slightest bit of dribbling ability.

I was expecting him to see out his contract here playing his usual 20 ish games a season and being bang average then leaving us for a mid table Champinship side so if we can rip off one of the newly promoted clubs for anything over half a million I''d be happy.

We paid that amount for him on his potential, he wasn''t bought as a starter. For me he hasn''t improved at all and given the fact we''re now a second tier side, he''s injured half the time and he''s nearly 5 years older I''d be happy with a modest fee.

I just don''t rate any of our CB''s besides Klose because they''re all just so error prone and slow witted. He''s a decent enough Championship level defender but given the fact we''re aiming for promotion and that much of our squad is old and unsellable I''d be really happy with a fee for one of our also rans

Wow, just wow! I fully accept he didn''t have a great season but who of our defenders did? Klose and Olsson?

Do you not remember when we managed to get promoted from the champs with Bennett, Martin, Bassong and Turner as our centre backs 2 seasons ago?

Why would you be happy with £500k, what could we possibly do with that money that is better than simply keeping him?

Really would like to keep him as squad player, won''t be first team regular for us next season though, no better than what we have.

How can getting £0.5 million for a player we paid £2.5 million for possibly be ripping them off!! We''d be a laughing stock if we sold him for such a pathetic amount!

Tyrone Mings - £8m

Ross McCormack - £11m

Andre Gray - £10m

etc etc etc

(none of the above have prem experience either)

When was the last time a club purchased a player off a relegated team (or any team) with plenty of premier league experience for under £2/3m?

I''d pocket £4-5m any day.

He has never quite reached expectations and we can do with the dosh and do better, even in the Chumps.

That''s your opinion on him fair enough but there''s no chance of him being sold for £500k. Not a chance.

If we get get more than what we paid for him then i''d be inclined to sell. He''s nothing special but him and klose would be good enough for next season.

He''s benefited enormously in fans opinions by not being Bassong or Martin. My belief is that he was equally culpable for some poor defensive displays and is a poorer all round player than either of the aforementioned.

That''s just my opinion but if he goes it''d raise a shrug at the most from me.

@Walt kills mike. Dick username btw. I didn''t watch BB until two years ago. that username would have pissed me off plently if I hadn''t seen it all yet. If you want to be taken seriously I''d drop the spolier name. I explained why I feel he''s a sub-Million player.

Most of our average players are worth nothing and nobody would be interested in them. The likes of Bassong and Bennett I honestly expected us to sell for free given their concentration/motivation issues and lack of physicality. I know a lot of people have a problem with that amount. As an aside I''d rate Brady, Howson and Klose as 15 Million players. I Think all of our CB''s except Klose are utter shite, I''m surprised many of you aren''t agreeing with me

Fair enough Ricky, not going to change your view - but Boro declaring interest has validated my own opinion on this one (imo...)

Wouldn''t put Brady as a £15m player - he was non-existent second half of the season! I think he will stick with us for at least until January as I can''t see anyone forking out £10m for him or however much we demand.

Why does last season''s performances matter? We''re playing in a different league now, a lower standard.

Naismith, Jerome, Ruddy, Martin - all poor last season overall but I''m confident those 4 and Bennett will all be decent players for us in the champs - as they have been in the past - so why cause ourselves more hassle and more disruption in the camp?

How many awful player performances were there in Hughton''s last season? How many of the regulars left? Snodgrass and Fer - that was it!

Not for any minute saying Bennett is class or our best player, but we simply have higher priorities for upgrading. Our striker-situation is pretty desperate and we will ideally need to keep hold of our current centre backs in the event of Klose leaving.

In short...Lets worry about their poor premier league performances when we know they''re going to play in the premier league!!!
