  1. It's a very brave selection - either it works and he gets to say "I told you so" or it doesn't and his cash in the bank with supporters goes down a long way. Maybe preparing for next season already, with Drmic the main striker but then why is Duda in there? There has to be a big problem with Pukki - maybe his fitness is an issue. Buendia rather than Cantwell is also a puzzle.
  2. I seriously don't think we can beat Brighton. I'd like to be wrong, but we can't stop the opposition scoring easy goals and we can't score. Murray also kills us every time he plays. My fingers are crossed but it's desperate stuff.
  3. There is so much financial malpractice going on in football - some very clever people involved, and those in charge of both the EPL and the EFL are extremely naïve, old school incompetents - as shown by the idiocy surrounding the restart and the inept negotiations with the TV companies, as well as the ludicrous and ongoing takeover of Newcastle. In light of which, I'm quite happy to have a local supporter in charge of my club, even if she can't afford to compete in the vacuous EPL which is, in my view, a false and unattractive version of football. The Championship, and even most of League One is also heading down the same path, unfortunately. Unless they put a cap on salaries in all the divisions the professional game will eventually disappear up its own backside.
  4. Wycombe - my local team and a reminder of our League One sojourn (Korey Smith, 1-0).
  5. You can't deny he has turned 5 academy players into £100m worth of assets though, and got us £170m in TV money. And last season was the most enjoyable in the 55 years I've been going. So all in all I'd stick with him for now.
  6. I live near Watford and know many of their fans. None of them have anything like the affinity or community Norwich City has with its fans. None of the players are much liked or rated apart from Troy Deeney. They don't like the Italian tie up and that their club is used as a second or third option by their owners. They've not spent hugely given this is their 5th season though, so it is pretty well run and in no danger even if relegated. However, they will murder us next week!
  7. We have to stop playing Cantwell and Buendia in the same team for a start. At the moment Cantwell should get the nod as the creative. Farke has never had the players available to play 3 at the back which we showed tonight could work - I'd still start with it against Brighton so we can get Aarons and Lewis much further up the pitch - they are both better attackers than defenders. I'd have Klose on the left of the 3 with Tettey and Godfrey. We have to find room for Vrancic and Hernandez and I think Rupp is a better DM than Trybull at the moment. I don't think Pukki's head is quite right so I'd give Idah a start. Krul Tettey Godfrey Klose Vrancic Rupp Aarons Lewis Cantwell Hernandez Idah Its easy to change this if Brighton set up differently. Just move Tettey forward and move to a 442. Buendia for Cantwell off the bench; Pukki for Idah; Martin for Hernandez.
  8. Well the connection between the two games is that in both, our manager failed to respond quickly enough tactically. Against Southampton their change of formation for the second half took us apart and tonight Arsenal starting with 3 at the back seemed to be a complete surprise to us and we didn't match it until half-time - when the game was already lost. I'm not defending the players necessarily (two stupid individual errors in particular, but also Trybull not tracking and Godfrey yet again lunging a clearance out of defence when he didn't need to) but they are not being helped by our manager also not being brave enough. We don't have the quality of player to impose a 442 on Arsenal at the Emirates - it was suicidal. My complaint this season is consistently the same - the opposition never have to try that hard to score against us. I still support Farke/Webber as I think Farke and his team have learned hugely over the last 3 seasons. I also don't fear the minor rebuild necessary - but we have to be ruthless enough to admit that we have to change the way we set up to be harder to play against. Yes we could probably win lots of games next year 3-2 or 4-3 again (and it was wonderful) but if we want to survive in the EPL we must be able to stop the opposition scoring.
  9. I don't see Krul leaving. Who is he going to be first choice for and why would he leave to be a back up again? Maybe Watford if they stay up. His best option is to stay, play every week and keep as many clean sheets as possible. Godfrey isn't ready for the move yet - he makes way too many errors. He also needs at least another season of playing every week. Cantwell only turns up when we play the big boys or we're on the telly - again, not consistent enough for the big move yet. Needs to run the team like Maddison did and like Buendia did. But his potential is the biggest of all and if we can keep him for another 18 months who knows how much he could go for? Buendia proved he can do it in a team with confidence - Palace, Burnley, West Ham, Sheff Utd etc or any promoted side should pounce. Hope we get more than the £15m Leeds want to pay though. Pukki - same as Krul. Doesn't need to leave to get to Euros and plays well in a particular formation, which very few others play. Lewis - has become a little jaded and probably needs the move more than most, but again, unlikely to be first choice anywhere else. Was well rated, but I suspect less so now as he hasn't stepped up. Again, I think he'll stay. Aarons - still has the occasional brain-freeze, but comfortably the player who could step up again. Not sure Spurs is an ideal option for him, but I do expect him to leave if we get a £30m offer. Don't want any loans from anybody. Keep buying everyone else's best youngsters.
  10. I guess it depends if they feel they need to replace a player who has barely featured for them in a season when they won almost every game. I get that he is a similar type of player (not as good as Lallana was when he went to Liverpool though) - but Klopp hasn't really used that type of player since last season, so I don't see why they would shell out £30m for one now.
  11. Fair point - but I still don't see any of ours going to top 6 PL teams; none of them are close to the standard of those players you mention. Buendia to Leeds for £20m is the most realistic "rumour" I've heard so far.
  12. Another year on but everyone still refers to these players as "young". They're really not anymore. Inexperienced, maybe, but given our league position could it be that these inexperienced players are not really that good? Why would they get games elsewhere - the top 6 have immense academies full of players who are possibly better and the likes of Leicester, Palace etc and the next tier down can't afford them. Cantwell and Aarons I think are the only two who will attract any attention/bids of anywhere near the sums we would want - assuming their release clauses were set high enough - and I suspect both will go. I also think one or two centre backs will move on and several midfielders. The squad needs freshening up - we can base it around our core but we have to improve defensively.
  13. They were stunning deals for Norwich. In fact I can't think of an outgoing deal in recent years that was under perceived value - maybe Oliveira, but there were reasons for that. And now £30m each for Cantwell and/or Aarons? Unbelievable, Geoff.
  14. I don't think it's "defeatist" to suggest that we have no hope of survival; it's just recognising reality. We have got 4 points from our last 8 games in the league, scoring 2 goals. Of our last 7 games three are against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City. We have one fit centre back available for our next game. We have won 5 games out of 31, yet somehow we might win 3 or 4 out of 7? Come now, let's not insult people for assuming it's over.
  15. The gap between the EPL and the Championship is immense and just keeps getting bigger. For Leeds to have a chance they will need 6 or 7 new players - better ones than they currently have - and they will need to spend big money and attract those players. Unlike Villa, who had to buy all their loan players but essentially still had a Championship team, with Bielsa as coach, they have a chance to do that. Not sure how their fans will react when the likes of Bamford, Klitch, Aliosi, Harrison, Heranandez and most of the rest don't actually get a game because Bielsa will realise quickly they are not good enough to survive. With a short pre-season, getting new players to gel will be even harder than normal. And there's the rub - if Leeds don't buy better players they have no chance; if they do, they still might have no chance. Sixteen years is a long time and the transition is incredibly difficult. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Leeds in the EPL - they are a big club with a huge fanbase and it will be interesting to see how they get on. Without crowds, their chances are vastly reduced.
  16. In this particular case though, Farke was wrong to be so critical of what is actually a pretty accurate analysis of one of the worst performances of his 3 year reign. It should be him who apologises to Conor Southwell, not the other way around.
  17. I really, really do admire anyone who thinks we have even the remotest chance of survival.....but we don't. We have none. Last night's game summed up everything that's wrong with us - they couldn't have given more or played with more spirit, but we still weren't good enough. Defensively we still can't stop the opposition scoring two easy goals which should have been stopped. Man Utd didn't have to do anything special to beat us. Unless we change that in the next 3 days, the same thing will happen on Wednesday however we play. Every team we play knows that they will get easy chances against us.
  18. Cantwell our best outfield player by a mile today, and a sweet hit for the goal. That should have secured him his £30m move this summer.
  19. Villa are gone after today's result. Their next two games are Liverpool and Man Utd. We will have a say on who comes with us - Watford and West Ham will expect to beat us and if they don't it could leave them in trouble. I fancy Bournemouth to get out of it. Villa will have to get rid of most of their team so I don't see them as a major player next year. West Ham would walk it if they come down so I hope it's Watford.
  20. Um, no. Wirecard went because cash assets disappeared. We don't have any of those because we've given it all to players and their agents.
  21. Have you thought about reading the annual accounts? That might give you a clue. But if you can't get to them, I'll tell you - Player Salaries.
  22. That's because they know they can beat us comfortably with their reserve team....!
  23. I'd have to take issue with two of your points. Firstly, our defenders are not all good defenders - they are all good footballers but of the ones we currently have only Zimmermann, Byram and Hanley have really proven themselves as defenders and they are all injury prone. Klose, Godfrey, Aarons and Lewis are not very good defenders which is why opposition teams try so hard to get their better players one on one against them. As an example watch Rashford and Martial against us later today; they will be looking for the diagonal pass to get either of those to run free against any of our back four. This "long term" plan of ours. Webber has already said he's off at the end of this contract, which is in just over two years. What happens when he goes? Do we get a new plan?
  24. Maybe it's my cynical view of the world but I think everything is ultimately for sale, it's just a question of the terms. If I had enough money I'm pretty sure I could persuade the current Board of NCFC that I am their ideal owner, and I think any keen purchaser could probably do the same unless they had a string of convictions, shady business dealings or human rights abuses attached to them (though that doesn't worry Newcastle fans). My view is that such a person hasn't yet tried. They are unquestionably out there, but maybe they're not Norwich fans.
