  1. I've often wondered if 3rd place should go straight to the final and 4th/5th should then have the home/away game to play them in the final.
  2. All three subs on Friday were taken at times to disrupt and break the flow of the game. None were made to change the way we were playing. We're extremely luck that we have players of the quality of Klose, Vrancic and Leitner to bring on. In all of our games bar Preston, we've been in the fortunate position of either winning or drawing, so the formula of sticking with a winning team has worked. Of course, it depends on the opposition as well. Swansea offered a very different threat to Millwall and Bolton, Hull will be different to Rotherham. I was quite surprised he kept with MacLean on Friday, he knew it was going to be a possession based game, so I expected Leitner to start. As it was, Swansea really got into us, and MacLean seems a bit more physical than Leitner. With the Rotherham game coming quite quickly after Wednesday, I wonder if he'll make at least one change. Both games are crucial of course, we need 4 points to maintain the pressure on Leeds and Sheff U, especially as they play each other on Saturday.
  3. I agree with most that Hanley is the least gifted as passing, pacy centre back, which Godfrey does well. Zimmermann has been a revelation and Klose is a cultured player who calms all around him when he plays. If we weren't on the run we are, I'd suggest Klose and Zimmermann are our best pairing, but Godfrey hasn't really done anything wrong, apart from being a fraction of a second late to the Gayle goal at West Brom and one other that escapes me at the moment. As has been said, we're outscoring the opposition, so to some extent it doesn't matter if we concede the odd goal, but if the goals do dry up (can't see that happening with Buendia, Hernandez, Stiepermann and Pukki on form), then we might need to look at changing the CB pairing.
  4. I can't help but feel the Andreu deal was part an parcel of getting Neil - e.g we pay £1m for your best player if we can have your manager. Turns out their best player wasn't good enough for us. On Zimmermann, his mistakes have reduced and he has benefited from having Godfrey and Aarons, alongside him. Krul's role and experience shouldn't be ignored either. He's done very well to keep Klose and Hanley out of the side (as has Godfrey).
  5. I accept that we need to accept that games will move for TV, but can someone explain why Sky are changing our game to 12.00 on the Sunday and the Leeds one to 5.30 on the Saturday? The other way around would make so much more sense. It's not even to avoid a local Prem game - they've got Palace v Man City (after us at 2.05pm )and Liverpool v Chelsea (4.30pm). The reaction of the club to get reduced ticket sales and travel is commendable, but I can't honestly see how we are going to sell 5,000 tickets to a 12.00 kick off in Wigan with a 5am start for the majority of the away supporters when the game will be on TV, whatever the price of the tickets. I really hope I'm proved wrong.
  6. Am I the only one who thought the plural of forum was forums...? đŸ˜‰
  7. Is Oliveira back too? Taken off with what sounded like a hamstring pull/tear v 1p5wich last week - must've got it when celebrating in front of their supporters. His, Naismith and Jarvis' contracts would have been factored into the budget for this season - I suspect we'd have had a couple more players if we'd managed to sell any or all of them.
  8. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but is the homegrown rule different in the Prem?
  9. <------------------ Me too - see left! I was sitting on the bars at the back of the infill between the South Stand / River End, probably as far away from where the goal went in. An amazing night and yes, how on earth can that be 34 years ago!
  10. VW, apparently it was posted by Sky yesterday, then taken down quickly.
  11. Isn't there some suggestion that the original posting is wrong and that our game will now be a 5.30 k.o on the Saturday and the Leeds v Sheff Wed will move to lunchtime on the Sunday? Or is that wishful thinking?
  12. I'm trying not to look at where teams are currently sat in the league. To me, their current form is more relevant - Brentford, Preston, Reading and Sheff Wed are going well. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/formtabelle/wettbewerb/GB2
  13. I haven't seen many of their games this season apart from the ones on Sky and I'd be prepared to admit they looked very good in the games v Derby and v West Brom, with lots of energy, pressing and passion. However, when they played us, we took them apart, completely outwitting them and they looked second best all game.
  14. I hope he doesn't pick up a minor injury in the next couple of games... đŸ˜‰
  15. Yes KG, it says so much about the whole squad that the starting 11 gets to keep the shirt when they win, even when 'better' players are available. Most of us said we'd miss Hanley - we haven't. Then we got worried when Leitner got injured - up steps Vrancic, and when he got injured in came Kenny. Tettey gets hurt, Tommy Trybull fills in and plays well. Fingers crossed Buendia, Hernandez, Stiepermann and Pukki stay fit...
  16. Klose came on for Lewis on 88, Pukki scored on 79.
  17. Yep - surgery on the shoulder dislocation that happened in the Villa game, then a knee injury, possibly in the Spurs International cup game at the end of January. Was announced when Morris' ankle ligament injury happened. Was expected to be out for 10 weeks then, so well ahead of schedule. Can't see him being risked unless there's injuries or a huge drop off in form from Trybull, Tettey or Aarons. In his defensive midfield role we have so many options.
  18. Our players have been given a level of confidence to do the sort of things others wouldn't try: - Lewis (or was it MacLean?) receiving a pass from Krul on our own 18 yard line. - passing it to Hernandez who is under pressure, but is composed enough to turn his marker when only 35 yards from his own goal (losing possession there would be very dangerous) - finding Buendia in space in the centre circle, who then has the ability to look up and see Pukki's run - Pukki's first and second touches are sublime and, as ever, an early strike to score. Such a good goal and really disappointing that Sky and Quest didn't show it in its beautiful entirety.
  19. If we win tomorrow, that’ll put WBA 9 points behind and then if Leeds beat Sheff U (what a game that should be, by the way!!), I think it’ll seal it for Leeds and us. but, as others have said - it’s all about us getting the results.
  20. Wow - 94 points for the champions. That's 10 wins out of 12 for Sheff U (including playing Preston, Sheff Wed, Leeds, Brentford, Forest and Birmingham). Its the same for Leeds (who play WBA, Bristol, Sheff U, Birmingham, Preston and Brentford) or 9 and a draw for us (Boro and Sheff Wed are our 'tough' games). West brom are the dark horses, if they win tonight, they're right back in it. If anyone gets over 90, they deserve to go up!
  21. If Farke had been here, Maddison would definitely have played / been involved rather than being shipped off to Aberdeen.
  22. I think its become part of his role as the third person alongside Mr & Mrs Webber.
  23. Definitely expecting some of our games to move for TV, though with Easter, we have Sheff Wed on Good Friday at 3pm, then Stoke on Easter Monday at 3pm. I suspect one of those might change to a lunchtime or teatime k.o.
