How old is too old to wear a replica shirt??

Recommended Posts

I bought my last one five years ago when I was 52 and that was really pushing it imo (even though I like to think I looked younger . . . [:$]

Any views?

Thank you for those kind words CW.  I still wear colours of course but I stick to badges and scarves now.

I am a few years younger than you and do so.  My father aged 78 still wears his and wears a home shirt or away shirt when they play whether he goes or not!!!

Over 25 starts to look silly, especially with a beer gut!.

I have some superb official City tops, T shirts for summer and long sleeves for winter, as long as they display the City badge I''m happy.

I think ideally everyone should wear colours when going to the game (however old, fat or otherwise) - it''s part of supporting the team. It must be great for them to look up and see the stands full of yellow and green, especially at away games. But I don''t think replica shirts should be worn as a ''fashion'' item if you''re over thirty...

Match days only for me...

Then that just shows how little you really know me, I wear my City colours all day, every day, in Scum land...........not just on match days where there''s safety in numbers!!

I turn 40 in December, and I''m not the slimmest of blokes, but the shirt is still worn with pride every week.

Lets face it, its a football match, not a fashion show!!

Slightly OT but I can''t think of a finer sight in football than City fans in full regalia.  Remember the playoff final?  And we were chosen by "Match of the Day" to be the main feature on their intro for a whole season (1994/5?).  No one can touch us, not even the Barcodes.

Meant to add: We''ll never be the noisiest but we are the most colourful.

I agree with everyones sentiments, but I stopped wearing a replica shirt when I was 16, I just associate them with being a kid, and no offence, do laugh at some of the people I see wearing them on match days.

The classic kits which you can buy in the store are a different matter though, because they are more like a t-shirt and I think you can get away with that, although I still don''t really wear that either. Replica''s should be kept the sole property of children IMO.

I of course still wear my colours on a match day, but it is usually a yellow t-shirt and not the kit.

You''ve done it again, you''ve made me laugh out loud much to the consternation of the nerd at the desk opposite me.

As long as it''s worn in the proper manner with the correct equipment, i.e Ciggy in one hand, pint in the other - I''m all for it what ever age.
