I'd say Norwich are one left back short of having a full squad.

Obviously there are likely to be changes with players coming and going, but I wouldn't be massively concerned if this was the squad going into the season (apart from the left back situation, even then Sorenson could be a short term stop gap).

Currently a slow window, so feel there will still be many timed finalising their squads even after the season has started, especially as Prem teams won't agree to loan deals outwards until late.

Wait for the euros to finish, then transfers / funds will start to trickle down.

It's always quiet / slow when there is a tournament on.

One would hope Montoia will be given an intense pre season to be in the position to act as cover until the window slams shut.

If we want to rebuild properly then we can't have square pegs in round holes.

Would like a new CB to partner Cordoba, a CDM and obviously a new LB

I think a new CB is highly optimistic while we still have (and are paying the wages of) Duffy and Hanley. Plus all the yoof who were out on loan last season.

And we all know it’s the law at NCFC that we don’t have a CDM.

LB - here’s hoping.

Oh 100%, purely a dream scenario. Was thinking we sack Duffy for the drink driving but that is obviously not going to happen. Would quite like to know what the club's internal investigation concluded...

Obviously someone is leaving,as Mrs. Webber has stated. Needs to be done sooner than later so that replacements can be brought in and amalgamated to the squad.

The new head coach needs to have the squad he's working with from the start. Don't want to be playing catch up from day one.

It should have concluded he brought the club into disrepute - which should allow them to say bye bye - but they won’t.

I imagine they won't as it would most likely lead to Duffy suing the club and almost certainly winning. The club can't just bend the rules depending on whether they like a player or not. Derby tried that with Ricard Keogh and it back fired for them massively.

I don’t see why it would be bending the rules if they had the ability to do so within his contract. As indeed my employer could do within my contract due to adverse publicity.

Fan forum knapper sounded like we are active and plan to be busy in and out. Takes time for deals to happen.

The bar for 'bringing a company into disrepute' is usually very high, a drink driving charge would almost certainly not meet such a bar. Duffy's lawyer would only have to point to the numerous other cases of footballers being caught drink driving and there is no perceived damage to the reputation of the clubs.

Unless there is a specific clause in Duffy's contract that says he can be sacked if caught drink driving, the club would find it incredibly hard to sack him.

Yeah it won’t happen. But getting slaughtered and being caught crashing into someone’s private property really should be actionable. Should transfer list him in my opinion. I agree they wouldn’t be willing to fight the battle to cancel his contract.

But we'd need to flog people to fund this, and we'd need to replace those departing players too. A lot of work to be done.

In terms of numbers, anyway. I'm not convinced by the quality and depth of the defence, even with a new left back.

Given the number of youth players at centre back, I can't see Norwich entering this period when youth is so focused on by bringing in a new centre back to block the pathway of 4 players. Cordoba + one of Hanley, Duffy, Hills, Tomkinson, Warner or Adegboyega will be the go to starting centre back partnership this season. It will be an interesting theme of the pre-season as to who is edging ahead. It is currently Duffy's spot to lose.

Has it though?

We can still field

                 Gunn

Stacey Duffy/Hanley  Cordoba    ?

             Nunez  McLean

Rowe        Sara        Sainz

                 Sargent

This is still the team that had the 3rd ? best points total in the league since Jan 1st and finished in a playoff place

There are worse situations for a manager to walk into than this

Yeah, I can't see it either.

It doesn't allay my concerns though; Cordoba is untried in England but I reckon will be fine, but Duffy and Hanley are both past their best, and none of the youngsters have played in the Championship before (well, four games between them, I believe) and I don't think any of them have really shone above League Two level, if at all.

Hopefully one of the group has a great preseason and establishes themselves in the first team, but I'm still concerned by the depth here.

Binning off Duffy and replacing him with a younger, more suitable style of player who is at a good Championship level would fill me with much more confidence, but would of course cost money that we don't really have.

As I said in the transfer thread, I don't think there will be the huge change in players that perhaps some expected as part of a 'rebuild' season.

I think fundamentally we're hoping that a couple of the youngsters are good enough.

I don't think it will be but in no way is that a 1st XI for a rebuild season. We shall see.

Perhaps a few might see it as a free hit for Thorup and Knapper, but not for me, there's plenty to build on, sorry.

Admire your optimism but financially I struggle to see how the club can afford not to sell some of the attacking players. £40m drop in revenue is going to need significant player sales to balance the books. Unless MA is going to drop a very significant investment to cover the gap but that only delays the problem.

The market seems slow at the moment, especially EFL clubs selling for good fees. Although that could change after the weekend as the post Euro dominoes start to fall.

Which there should be, given he has previous.
