Who of the Ten million plus players bought over the years…

Recommended Posts

Would you say has performed the best?

we all agree that a fee like like would buy our club and change.

I am at an age when the best goal scorer I have ever seen, Jimmy Greaves, insisted that Spurs paid a pound under a hundred thousand as he did not want to be the first one.. My god what would he be worth today, in this totally stupid market place?

Love football, hate what it’s become!!

Do you mean in general, or players that have been here?

I Remember thinking that the Chris Sutton money was ludicrous but he did the goods for Blackburn winning the title.  Shame about the injuries though.

Similar link I think Shearer moving to Newcastle was really big news at the time, but it was money well spent as he brought so much to them across the 10 years.   It smashed the previous record at the time I think, hate to think what that is the equivalent to in todays money.

He was a proper solid signing for them though.

Ronaldo from Sporting to Man Utd back in 2003 for around £19m looks fantastic business. Love him or hate him he was a consistent performer for 15 or more years wherever he played.

We've not really had much success at all with players we've signed for around ~ 10 million. I think only 2 from memory have been any good Klose and Sargent.

If you're paying around £10m for a player he's going to be known to every club in world football and as we usually only signed them when we're in the PL there's usually a good reason why other clubs have passed over them or why they're not worth £20m which is a standard fee for a decent PL player. We always do better overall when we go for lesser known gambles. You get the odd Franke or Marshall but that's more than worth the risk to find a Buendia or Pukki.

Next time we go up we should try to sign fewer players who are worth more or just continue trying to find cheaper players who might surprise us. We've had very little success and wasted a lot of money at that 8-12m range

The £50'000 we spent on Martin Peters was something of a bargain in general as well as for us. He played more times for Norwich than he did Tottenham and was on the verge of an England recall only for Ron Greenwood to declare he wanted younger players.....before he selected Ian Callaghan, who was older than Peters!

Whatever Man City spent on Rodri was a steal.

The best value for money transfer this club has ever spent is the £1million Delia found down the back of the sofa for Darren Huckerby.

Give me one better. I’ll wait.

Grant Holt for £400K? And if the figure I've seen for Wes Hoolahan (£250K plus Matt Gilks) is correct then that's a steal.

I am still genuinely trying to work out what this means.

The reason I’d say Hucks is that I’ve never seen a Norwich side transformed so much by one player.

I actually think the fee was 750k too.

Grant Holt, Wes, Emi and Pukki all up there. The way  Hucks transformed us instantly from mid table to title contenders was magic.

And he ended a 9 year wait to get back to the EPL!!

Sorry Shef.. I’m much too young 😉

Ramsay said he was ten years ahead of time in 1966 - we acquired therefore at his peak in 1976. Imagine us picking up Mbappe in 4 years time for say £10m! Kind of ...

Value for money wise (Pukki aside) we would struggle to beat..

Ian Culverhouse £50k  369 appeaances - 9 years

Mark Bowen £90k  399 appearances - 9 years

Mainstay fullbacks all throughout my teenage years

Thankyou Spurs

Don't think we paid much for Crooky, either.

And McVeigh was relatively cheap as well. Add on Peters and we did well out of Spurs for a few years. Nowadays it would make you think something was going on there?

Jimmy Bone. Would we have ever gone up to the first division without him?

Emi Buendia worth a mention for the amount of profit we made? Picked him up for less than 2 million was it? Decent business.
