A last minute winner is?

Those of you seeing negatives in this never saw us lose to Bradford City in the 5th round of the cup. I’m still scarred by it . I’ll take these wins and raise a beer to the lads .

And well played the travelling fans . What a noise as that goal goes in . Enjoy that lads and lasses , you deserve it !

And a last minute winner scored by an academy graduate, showing all the qualities we hope he has, but see too infrequently. As you say, f***ing brilliant.

I remember that Bradford match in the cup. Mid 70s, we lost 2.1 and I think they were in the old 4th division?

1976. Charlie Boyer had a goal ruled out for offside. Disgrace.
Yup , 4th division. It was an absolute nightmare

Phil Boyer wasn't it? Or was 'Charlie' a nickname?

Absolutely. Shades of the Championship season under Paul Lambert or Farke 5 years ago.

Nickname. Yup Phil. One of my earliest Hero’s.

He was one of mine too. He got a full England cap when he was with us . Our first England International ? I think .
Remember that Bradford game too . That was the last season I went with my Dad before he died . I can still hear him moaning about Mel Machin now !

There was an old Hollywood film star called Charles Boyer. Phil was nicknamed Charlie after that film star. One very definitely for us oldsters.

From memory a Bradford scorer was Cess Pod. The tie was delayed by bad weather and it turned out we had an easy route to the final.

Charlie Boyer was nicknamed after Charles Boyer, a film star. Gigi, I think.

Charlie was a brilliant player until the red mist came down. At that point he would fight anyone, including virtually the whole Sunderland team.

This was the point that made it worse than simply getting knocked out . We had played Rochdale (albeit took two replays) Luton and  then Bradford all of which were in lower divisions. We thought we were a shoe in for the 6th round.
Bradford lost to Southampton in the six round. Who went on to win it .
Cup had our name on it .

He played at Wrexham against Wales. Believe Peter Taylor, later temporary England manager, & several others also made their debut the same night. A car load of us went to Wrexham to cheer him on.
