I have heard that ex employee Andrew Cullen is in the running for Webbers job. He has held similar positions at MK Dons and now at Portsmouth. Do you think he will be ok at Carrow Rd. He is highly thought of by Delia and others at Norwich.

Well he's  a 'shoe in' then!!

Cullen was (from memory) a 'Sales and Marketing' executive at FCR previously. What 'footballing' qualifications he has for the much vaunted 'Sporting Director' role may be open to question?

Unless memory is failing again, he was the guy who converted support in the county into bums on seats at the ground - sometimes hard to realise how recently we didn't routinely fill it. Agree with yellowrider he may not match the Sporting Director role as we know it at our club, but mature organisations take the opportunity to hire good people and mould the organisation to fit, with tasks at the top table redistributed (this may already be happening as David Wagner seems to have more influence in the recruitment area). And he is a good ol Norfolk boy returning with experience developed elsewhere. Appears a grounded choice.

If we can get him back in any capacity then that will obviously be great but he doesn’t fit the SD remit so you’ll have to try a bit harder with your rumours my old son

Probably the fact he was well regarded in his Director role at MK Dons over something like a 12 year period and seen as hugely responsible for their Championship promotion?

Or it could be the CEO role he's performed at Portsmouth?

Probably worth looking at what people have done before passing comment...

Christ you've quickly become a condescending ****. I know, I know - pot, kettle, black. Takes one to know one. Etc etc

Difference is you're also wrong.

Cullen would be an excellent replacement if the board are considering moving back to an all powerful managing director (eg David McNally style). This would be real interesting, given Wagner is a head coach. Suddenly we'd have need for a manager again.

Or maybe we want to divest positions even further, as some of the larger teams have done, having an executive director that deals with the facilities, appointments, staff etc and a "head of recruitment" - something we're seeing pop up in the bigger teams. Again, interesting around Wagner - would be retain superiority over the head of recruitment? Parity?

Either way - you'll have to try a bit harder with your eye rolling condescension Yobocop, my old son.

I did just that thank you so much for asking! From what I can see, the boy Cullen has NOT carried out a 'Sporting Director' role that Webber has here especially being the top man for recruitment of players. If as has been mentioned.by another poster, the club are intent on restructuring senior roles then Cullen may be a good fit within said structure somewhere.

now now, calm down before you give yourself a hernia - was hoping my comment was going to be taken tongue in cheek but obviously not

I would love him to come back but think we need to be realistic about what he can bring to the table and as you say current structure etc

we will see….watch this space

You don't say you aren't condescending by being more condescending.

Rob Newman is being spoke about by Iwan Roberts on Radio Norfolk!

Not a bad shout, been at Man City & West Ham, maybe he would like to come home?

Newman would be My First choice for Recruitment imagine the players he has seen at Man City and West Ham that might not be quite up to the standard at those clubs but fantastic for us

Most people won't have carried out a Sporting Director role in this country because in football terms it's an incredibly recent thing - we were one of the very early adopters of it.

However had you done your research properly, you wouldn't be saying the above because Cullen HAS been involved in player recruitment at BOTH Dons and Portsmouth 🙂

There is a distinct difference (imo) from being a Sporting Director, and being involved in player recruitment which knowing Cullen's background I would assume is more from the financial side rather than strategy and 'data'.  If the club is rejigging the function of certain roles then fine, but I would suggest that Cullen would be more suited to Zoe Webber's role than Stuart's.

To be honest I'd be very disappointed if the club decide to throw the SD role in the bin just because one person is moving on.  It's a specialist role and not the role of someone who has just been 'involved' in player recruitment previously.

Like ncfcstar, he would be more suited to the current Executive Director role than SD, but even more likely he would be more likely to be the CEO, slotting in above the SD and Zoe's role, producing an executive team of three which I think will be more effective. If this is true I welcome this greatly (albeit Nutty will probably point out it is what happens on the pitch that matters most), it would be a real sign that a positive move by the Board on the management of all aspects of the club.
