Ivan Toney, what a proper plum

Recommended Posts

OK so we all know about his ban and the gambling blah blah...

But whats come out today is that he bet on the team he plays for to lose on 13 occasions.

Dear oh dear🤣

Ban should be much more serious if that’s the case. Apparently got a reduced ban cos he said he had a gambling problem - isn’t that sort of implied?

It doesn't look good, and he will serve a long ban.

Jokes aside, gambling addiction is a serious problem for some.

And let's be honest, you can't escape advertising for online gambling now. It's everywhere.

I'd suggest it's no more than somebody having a bet to soften the blow of a loss.

He needs help in kicking his addiction, not a ban on him making a living.

Jesus, we go down that route our jails would be full of hedge managers and City bankers.

Really Does put that video of him saying '**** brentford' in perspective huh?😂

Do you ever read anything, you know for the facts, before your scramble to post something?

I'm definitely still more on the 'plum' side than 'poor chap' side

Rules are very clear and he's been a footballer for over a decade.

Bet on the flippin horses then if you have an addiction. All this sympathy for someone who bet against his own team. The consequences could have been terrible for his club, his team mates and those who adore him at Brenford.

Yeah less of a proper plum and more a man suffering a serious addiction. Hope he gets/has got the help he needs.

Tricky one. He’d have more sympathy if he bet on his side to win, as what he did could easily lead to match fixing,

Even betting to win on your team to be fixed. If you get to the opposition.

He never bet on Brentford to lose. 11 of those bets were on Newcastle to lose while on loan at other clubs, and the two others were when he was on loan Wigan but not playing.

Sometimes I think you deliberately post stuff that is wrong for bites.

I know people say 'oh its just Cambridge he's harmless' but the sensationalist clickbait he spams this place with drags it down.

Not while he was playing for them though- so he couldn't have any influence over the result.

Obviously against the rules and he's an idiot for doing it but it isn't close to anything that could be considered match fixing.

It’s the betting companies that should be banned. Problem solved overnight.

Betting serves no useful purpose.

Football taking money from betting all over the place, is happy for supporters to lose their shirts, but not happy when the players being paid huge salaries financed by betting companies have a betting problem. The worst of double standards.

Correct. But Cambridge said it was Brentford, but it wasn't: it was Newcastle and Wigan.

Bless you for being surprised.

Begs the question why it took so long to decide whether he was guilty or not. In my opinion he is lucky to only get the ban he did.

Or maybe you could just read things before you post them? It surely isn't that much to ask?

A single player cannot fix a match. They might be able to influence it but even then it's tenuous.

We are not talking just about results. A player can fix it if he is the team penalty taker for example. There are cartels of not gamblers but criminals who will pay for someone to arrange something. Remember the cricket fixes just by bowling no balls.

Reading the whole article I actually think the ban is very very lenient and he is lucky not to have been banned for longer.
