Should OTBC be sang at half-time too?

Recommended Posts

You know how everyone at the ground sings 'On The Ball City' before kick-off, should this be done at half-time too?

I think it would be great to do it at half-time, kick-off, and full-time too.

Definitely should. Those that don’t sing shouldn’t be allowed a toilet break or the opportunity to grab a bargain purchase in the concourse. The stewards could police this one and Delia could conduct us (if still awake)standing on a mini stage centre circle.

Definitely should be sung at the end of the game too, any not joining in should have their season ticket removed.  Just like before the mid-70's when the BBC TV schedule finished and the national anthem was played and everyone had to stand to attention and sing along, on pain of a treason charge if they didn't.

I don't get why the announcer doesn't get the fans to sing OTBC at half-time and full-time, like he does at kick-off. It would create great atmosphere.

Snipers in the television gantry could encourage more fans to sing. Not live ammunition mind but green and yellow paintballs. Those hit are escorted out the ground to a chorus of boos and receive a 1 match ban.

It would be fantastic and certainly raise the spirits for the next half.

Perhaps close the bars and toilets 5 mins early so that everyone is back in their seats on time.

Yes yes yes. Why hasn’t this been done before? Thank you OP for your top, top threads today.

The stadium announcer should also count down (fairly loudly, but not deafening) over the tannoy during each half to the next stipulated singing time, down from 2,700 or whatever to zero. (Representing eventual depletion of cerebral particles for all in this life & the ball game we call foot.)

This will build excitement, & be something interesting to listen to during stoppages/boring sequences of play. It will also help discourage impromptu, unassisted renditions of OTBC and other chants by fans during the game. ( Let’s face it, unauthorised spectator songs kind of  detract from the atmosphere)

A few years back I was in Turin and went to a Juventus match.  They won easily, Tevez scored if I recall correctly.  At fulltime I did my usual, a few claps and headed for the exit.  To my surprise pretty much everyone stayed in their seats and started a good old singsong.  I've no idea what they were singing, or whether they would do it had they of lost, but it was very different to how things are back home.

Great replies!

Cheers for getting the ‘foot’ball rolling on the essential debates! 👍  I think we’re on a wavelength

BTW do you know existing posters on here eg one called Paul and one called True Grit? Also Penelope Catchpole. All good guys & girls and they love a genuine thought-provoking post, look out for them

That reminds me of when England players sung Sweet Caroline with fans after full-time. I wish stuff like that happened in more games. That's why I appreciated Farke's wave with the fans at the end of matches.

I've always thought that loudspeakers should blast it from the top of the Cathedral spire, the City Hall and from the Castle ramparts at consistent intervals on any Saturday morning when there is a home game.

Perhaps speakers could also be placed upon the lamp posts on Riverside Walk so that the fans can sing along as they make their way to Carrow Road, whilst that announcer at Thorpe Station should be allowed to chant it out loud as visiting supporters leave  their trains.

Like a call to prayer, I like it but maybe just once a day instead of the five.

I think it should be sung sporadically throughout the time the stadium is open for the game. Every time there is a little lull in the vocal support the guy with the mike should scream "3-2-1" into it and start another rousing chorus. If the club could also make it conditional that you had to join in as part of the Ts and Cs of ticket purchase, that would be helpful.

Oh, and it should be sung at the correct speed. Those found accelerating it to warp speed such as those in the Barclay end should be reprimanded and an extra £10 should be added to their season ticket cost with each infraction.

Surely there should be a further penalty added for those that sing scrummage instead of scrimmage ?

in the Upper Barclay we have some getting back to their seats 20mins into the 2nd half...then they are off to the loo again after another 20mins 🤣

I couldn't possibly comment 🤪

OTBC is often sung after the opposition has scored. I'm getting sick of hearing it!

Only twice a game is OK with me!

Embarrassing having it sung 20 times a game!

Particularly at away matches.

It would help if those in the South Stand who don't know the words lala'd to the first bit...

Lalala, lalala, lalalalalala, lalala,lalala, lalalalala...

On the ball city..

and then repeat the lalaing if they don't know the rest.

I've just been to Morrisons but resisted the urge to sing it in the direction of the ground...... This time.
