In seriousness the just in time model is being really put to the test in any number of sectors this year. I would also say that there is a reaping of the effects of the lack of action towards meeting long term aims over the last 20 plus years. For me a failure to build any nuclear plants after Sizewell B is making managing energy prices and keeping coal out of of equation very difficult now. Spiralling inflation, food shortages, inflation, being told your place in the world by the yanks- an yes even blackouts perhaps. Government having to take emergency action to keep the lights on and food on the shelves. Just the way they liked it through their rose tinted glasses. 1970's you say? Well, we've been out today and bought loads of candles and some arctic roll for the deep freezer (lovely)😀

Well b back 3,207 Posted September 24, 2021 1 hour ago, dj11 said: How anyone is not embarrassed by Johnson, is beyond me. The NYT view Boris Johnson’s style on the world stage. Boris Johnson’s attention-grabbing U.S. visit Boris Johnson, the British prime minister, made headlines this week while visiting the U.S., variously telling the world to grow up and accept the challenge of climate change; making fun of France’s neuralgic response to a U.S.-Australia-Britain submarine deal; and even clearing up lingering confusion about how many children he has (six). A journalist-turned-politician, Johnson has long employed humor, often at his own expense, to make serious points. But it is unclear how well that lighthearted style advances Britain’s post-Brexit position on the global stage. “The problem with being a comedy act is that you’re then not taken seriously,” one British observer said. “That’s why we weren’t consulted on Afghanistan.” Britain has yet to make progress on a trade deal with the U.S., one of the main selling points of Brexit. President Biden has also made it clear that he would object to any British actions that threaten the peace in Northern Ireland, such as its vows to overhaul its post-Brexit trading arrangements there. He’s always turned up late to briefings whenever England are playing a rugby match. I still remember it now and won’t ever forget it when we went into lockdown in November last year; he was supposed to address us at 17:00, but was late by one hour and thirty mins. Just how unprofessional can you get!!?, at least Norwich turn up for matches and training on time!!. Then just after the newsreader said “Here they come”, Boris’s first line really got on my nerves….. “Many apologies for interrupting your evening” he said as soon as him and bubblehead Whitty and this other guy arrived at their lecterns. How about saying “Time to ruin your lives and cancel Christmas?”. The guy is a bumbling dolt and how anyone can say “Loveable buffoon” and “He’s funny” as acceptable reasons to have him in power needs a serious long look in the mirror. His boasting and jingoism before the Olympics, put me off him from the start. He even helped a friend of his get someone beat up, the tapes are on YouTube, but all that gets put aside and nicely swept under the Tory carpet.

In his recent climate-change speech he talked about humanity but could just as easily have been describing himself: “We believe that someone else will clear up the mess we make, because that is what someone else has always done. We trash our habitats again and again with the inductive reasoning that we have got away with it so far, and therefore we will get away with it again.'' 4

The words that keep coming into my mind are his beseeching of leaders at the climate conference...."it is time for humanity to grow up" with his accent on those last two words, like a scolding parent. This, from someone you could argue uses ridiculously overworked Latin phrases and shoe-horns them into jokes. Time he "grew up" from being a Puer Aeternus and actually got serious with the NHS, the plight of refugees crossing the channel each day, the behaviour of some of his own cabinet, on a proper social care plan, on driver shortages, on Northern Ireland and the disintegrating union. For a start. Then, perhaps something more solid on universal credit, child poverty and increasing regional inequality. Talking like a concerned parent belies the real person he is. Narcissistic and needy of attention. Stanley Johnson has a lot to answer for. Edited September 27, 2021 by sonyc
KernowCanary 214 Posted September 27, 2021 Wrote this on Facebook earlier and had a lot of agreements so far….. The pandemic hit the fan in March, we had 9 months of transition left. We were offered another year because of the pandemic to allow us to transition more smoothly. The toffs party turned it down, during a pandemic. I’ll repeat that. During a pandemic they decided to inflict more damage on a UK industry that was already struggling with the pandemic and unable to focus on Brexit. You could say they decided to not take that extra year and that's so they can blame stuff like this on the pandemic. They got very lucky with Covid as a lot of people will use this an an excuse for a lot of stuff. Maggie had the Falklands to hide behind, while Boris had this ‘demic.
