Indy 3,471 Posted August 11, 2019 Just watched Match of the day, lots of talk how well Villa spent £140 million, how they played good football, Sheffield United how good they move their three Centre backs around the pitch, how they are sticking to their style from last season, a few minutes given to them both, Norwich, nothing just how naive we are at defending, really! How about the way we moved the ball, the chances we created! I bet if we beat Newcastle next week will lead to how poor Newcastle were.... I’m done with reading or watching the BBC, they do have a serious downer with Norwich for some reason!
sonyc 6,144 Posted August 11, 2019 I was waiting for Shearer's dull analysis too, anticipating the negative slant. I wasn't disappointed because he came up with the goods as predicted. To add insult to the expected injury, Linekar then asked both pundits who would win the league...both went for Liverpool! The irony of it.
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted August 11, 2019 As much if not more about a dull 0-0 draw.
Aggy 944 Posted August 11, 2019 They put the game from the Friday on last and didn’t really do much analysis - nothing new, the Friday games are analysed on Saturday mornings. Liverpool, having won 4-1, were the last team on MOTD behind a bore draw. No real discussion about how good Liverpool were either. Shef Utd got a point and Villa went 1-0 up and almost held a top 4 side until the last ten minutes. We were 4-0 down within just over half an hour and for all our good play, the “comeback” amounted to one consolation goal when Liverpool had slowed down the pace. Why should we get the same credit as other teams in the division who did better than us on the day?
JF 694 Posted August 11, 2019 Astoundingly amateurish asking who is going to win the league after 1 game! Let fans debate such nonsense over a few pints, you’re supposed to be providing a professional product.
Canary73 327 Posted August 11, 2019 Its the same with many pundits across many media forms. Many: have been out of the game for some time have no little or no knowledge outside the top six or division Could not talk about us or Sheff U in any detail - witness 'pundit' Ian Wright's 'he passes it to him who gives it to him' on MoTD a few seasons ago have a pre determined philosophy e.g you have to spend, aren't going to get anything against the top six, are in a relegation mini league and are written off from the start have their favourites e.g. yesterday Dion Dublin described Spurs v Villa as a proper premier league fixture. Does that mean only the perceived bigger clubs should be in the top 20? If you took a stopwatch to watch features online, on tv or listen to radio discussions etc. or column lengths for the Liverpool game we hardly got a mention. It shouldn't be much to ask for a pundit/correspondent to be credible and have some in depth knowledge rather than their tried n trusted soundbites. Sky are one of the worst offenders for this in their Soccer Specials and Sunday Supplement. It all needs freshening up. Although I'm not in favour of needing to purchase several different packages to watch football I hope that Amazon offer something refreshing as the current model is ripe for change. TBF I listened to Jeremy Goss doing co coms with Chris Goreham, against Toulouse I believe it was, Gossy struggled with the names of some of our players. Love him to bits but it was woeful for an ex player who works at the club. It's not just bbc or talksport
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted August 11, 2019 You would think the Marxist Biased Broadcasting Corporation would have been good to our Suffolk Socialists. Just thought I would say it before Jools and Moy.
Branston Pickle 4,147 Posted August 11, 2019 Thought MOTD was fair enough - I doubt many had realised the first Liverpool goal had effectively come from a defensive throw-in ; it shows you have to defend from the front. They effectively said we had given them problems up front, which we did, but were a bit naive at the back - v little-to-no difference with what we’ve been saying ourselves. A Load of Squit 6,260 Posted August 11, 2019 MOTD missed the point that since our first game we have moved up to 17th in the table (where we want to be). Liverpool slipped to 2nd, where they don't want to be. Liverpools season so far has been a repeat of last season, they mus be sensing 9 months of deja vu. 😀

Making Plans 957 Posted August 11, 2019 TV pundits only ever say what they think the majority of viewers want to hear. And the majority of viewers do not live in Norfolk. In their minds, our presence in the PL is an irrelevance as we are just one of the Clubs in there to make up the the numbers. They learned nothing from Leicester winning the league. lake district canary 4,826 Posted August 11, 2019 They will carry on doing the same until we start picking up points, start showing them that we are in the league good and proper, then they will have to take us more seriously. At the moment for them we are just a small low budget team destined for 20th place. We'll have to learn 'em!
ThorpeCanary 71 Posted August 11, 2019 I don't worry about the pundits, I don't think they influence our players and while I certainly think a lot of ours deserve recognition im (selfishly) happy for them to get little notice and fly under the radar while having success with us. As far as the media were concerned Leeds won the championship last September but I didn't see them lift the trophy in May. We have a united squad here and any disrespect or patronising will be used by Farke and his team and twisted in our favour I think.
Bill 1,788 Posted August 11, 2019 we will soon be the media darlings and it will other fans complaing about them fawning over us
Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,615 Posted August 11, 2019 Norwich fans seem to have a bit of s victim complex about this at times. "We never get any credit", "nobody cares about little old Norwich", "Why does nobody talk about us", "Why did Wilder win manager of the year?" etc. Maybe it's a psychological thing that stems from the fact we're all Norwich fans so just want to hear loads of good things about ourselves, whereas the media give us what they feel is the correct balance in terms of our place in the food chain, i.e. one of the smaller Premier League clubs. But look on the bright side: we aren't going to stay up based on what the MOTD pundits say about us; we're going to stay up based on what we do on the pitch. It doesn't matter if the pundits think we're terrible or if they think we're brilliant.
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted August 11, 2019 I think it was equally disrespectful to Liverpool Wacky. The first PL game of the season, acknowledged by many as an entertaining spectacle with five goals and relegated to the spot where many are asleep after their four cans of San Miguel and very little from, admittedly unnecessary pundits. Only the negative of why we conceded goals. Not some of the sublime early skills from Cantwell and the ever growing maturity of Godfrey, Aarons and Lewis. This is because most people have already seen the highlights and analysis.

So you think the BBC put the league runners up and champions of Europe on last, after a 4-1 win, where they score 4 within the first 40 minutes, behind far more boring games in the running order, and did virtually no analysis or comment on said league runners up and champions of Europe, solely to spite us somehow? Or is it far more likely that all of the above was because the game was played on the Friday night? If they had shown our game in the middle of the running order, done detailed analysis on Liverpool, said we were woeful and highlighted only our defensive flaws whilst going on to do detailed analysis of and praising West Ham and Villa, then you’d have a point. But that’s not what happened.

My point is the lack of anything constructive or positive, they even cut off Klopps interview as he goes on to say good things about us. Like I said the last game on is fine no issue with it, the lack of respect I have issue with.

Compare how long they spent analysing the first few games vs our game. If we were in an earlier slot, there would have been more analysis of our game and they would probably have mentioned the chances we created. Usually that’s because the last game is a boring 0-0, or because people have already seen and read analysis of a game which was played on the Friday. like I said, if they had spent five minutes purring over Liverpool and criticising us, then you’d have a point. They barely said anything about either side though. Edited August 11, 2019 by Aggy
