vlad666 203 Posted July 18, 2019 Thought this was a joke at first but it’s their official kit. Some funny memes going about on Twitter. 🤣
vlad666 203 Posted July 18, 2019 Maybe just a publicity stunt but still funny.
canarydan23 4,060 Posted July 18, 2019 I think you're right, but they are taking it very seriously. They actually played a pre-season friendly in the kit and the club have actually come out saying it will be their kit and is going on sale on Saturday morning! The FA have already got involved, although Huddersfield and PP probably knew they would, as there are strict regulations on logo size that this certainly does not abide with.
Mason 47 1,379 Posted July 18, 2019 It's a no- lose marketing stunt. Those involved know that the logo won't be allowed to pass regulations and by the time people can buy it on Saturday I'm sure some governing body will have 'had a word' and the logo will be normalised. Lots of publicity for Paddy Power and probably places Huddersfield quite high up the 'Banter Club' rankings with Bristol City and their memey goal gifs.
Il Pirata 249 Posted July 18, 2019 I'd have Pritchard back.. Sorry, I know that's not the topic! Pritchard in, Cantwell out on loan? He'd fit in to Farke's system well. The kit is awful.

Still cant get my head around how little AN utilised him.
keelansgrandad 6,679 Posted July 18, 2019 Those who don't care for our current shirt sponsors would have a fit with this one. Pritchard would be a good shout but would be behind Buendia who has more flair.
lake district canary 4,531 Posted July 18, 2019 Pritchard struggled to get into a struggling side at Huddersfield, not sure what he would bring to the party that is anything better than what we've got.

Would be ideal competition for Stiep's position. Evidently very different players, but always good to have a plan B. That said, he didn't exactly hang about when trying to get out of here, so he might have burnt that particular bridge.
king canary 7,606 Posted July 19, 2019 Real kit revealed and it won't have a sponsors logo on it. I think I'd take being a 48 hour publicity stunt in exchange for a sponsor free shirt.

And by the sounds of it, they're actually sponsoring them but not putting their logo on the shirt, and claiming that they're 'unsponsoring' them by not using the shirt as a billboard. ThorpeCanary 71 Posted July 19, 2019 "Paddy Power claim it's all part of a campaign to highlight their 'Save our Shirt' campaign - where they want brands to stop sponsoring football shirts. Paddy Power MD, Victor Corcoran, said: “Shirt sponsorship in football has gone too far. We accept that there is a role for sponsors around football, but the shirt should be sacred. “So today we are calling on other sponsors to join the Save Our Shirt campaign, and give something back to the fans." Smart move from Paddy Power. Whether you agree with it or not it's not impossible to believe that bookies could well have their sponsorship options limited at some point in the future. Why not get in their first and try and encourage it to happen to all brands?
JF 694 Posted July 19, 2019 Played a blinder. Publicity stunt for 48 hours and play 1 friendly in it. Money from sponsorship in the bank and now they have by far the best kit of the season to show for it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Grant Holts Moustache 105 Posted July 19, 2019 Not a fan of how betting sponsorship has become so intwined the last few years. This was however a great idea and the shirt with no logo looks great, even if it is Blue and White. Would love for Norwich to do this as this years kit is nice but I don't want to be a billboard for an industry that is currently out of control.

Given the choice, nobody really does. But getting £2-3m a year for it isn't something we can down.

I would rather take a moral stand and accept 1-2m a year less. Especially when you consider the community values of the club and the influence they have on so many young people.

Football has no morals! And without starting this debate again, it does seem unfair that gambling companies get all the stick when nobody complains about alcohol and payday loan companies. And without starting this debate again, it does seem unfair that gambling companies get all the stick when nobody complains about alcohol and payday loan companies. If it was alcohol and payday loan companies sponsoring over 60% of teams shirts, was in nearly every slot on ad breaks during games and had in play ads then I am certain there would be the same debate about them. When Payday loans companies started sponsoring teams there was outrage (remember Wonga at Newcastle?) and people were calling for bans. Fortunately over time the regulators have stepped in to reduce the profiteering of these horrendous companies who's business model is to prey on those least able to pay it back and they have regressed. Regards alcohol I was too young to see how people reacted in the 90s when they sponsored everyone. If it was now I think people would be against it. It's only a few years since we saw regulation that restricted the way they advertise to people, price increases on units and taxes to reduce the usage. If they started to dominate football we would see them step in. Gambling had the exact opposite. Was deregulated and given the keys to the kingdom so to speak and is allowed to regulate itself. Mr Angry 1,561 Posted July 19, 2019 Paddy Power are weird-they've run some bets on some questionable events-Barack Obama being assassinated and the Oscar Pistorius verdict, and some of their ads have drawn a large number of complaints. Then they ran an ad which apparently highlighted the deforestation of rain forests, and now this one. I guess that any publicity is good publicity.
Nuff Said 5,141 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) I’m impressed by quite how much money posters on here are prepared to turn down. With the membership scheme and sponsorship from gambling companies being unacceptable, is there any other funding we think we should do without? Would people prefer to take money from an autocratic regime that executes its opponents in foreign countries, exercises capital punishment, silences any opposing political views, suppressed women, criminalises LGBTQ+ people ... ? https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-world/2019/united-arab-emirates EDIT: my comments were aimed at Saudi Arabia, and Man City are funded by Sheik Mansour who is the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. The general point still stands, I hope. Blame the beer! 🤪 Edited July 19, 2019 by Nuff Said
