Grando 260 Posted January 23, 2018 This time a 19-year-old from WBA.http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/norwich-city-transfer-rumours-loan-enquiry-for-field-1-5366311OK, so I know this may well be made-up paper-talk. But if not, how many fragile-looking midfielders do we need!? I hope we don''t continue the mistakes of the Neil era by overbuying certain positions, while criminally neglecting our pathetic forward line.
king canary 7,606 Posted January 23, 2018 It would be especially confusing to pay money for a midfielder who won''t join until the summer and then loan another midfielder.

SwindonCanary 455 Posted January 23, 2018 Why do we need to spend money on loan players ? When it looks like we are not going up or down this season.
Indy 3,300 Posted January 23, 2018 I do find it a struggle to understand this, we have a couple very promising young midfielders who are getting great reviews in the under 23 squad, yet they aren’t old enough or experienced enough to get into our first team squad, yet we are happy to loan a 19 year old from WBA, yes he might have played a few games in the first team, but surely we’d benefit more from blooding our own, likes of a Cantwell & Middleton?
Grumpy 122 Posted January 23, 2018 Irrespective of the fact of whether we need him or not surely the fact that he has played in those games and been given the chance by experienced managers has to say something about his ability. I don''t think now is the time to be blooding our own and to be honest I don''t think that either Cantwell or Middleton would be anywhere near playing if we didn''t have to get rid of the likes of Pritchard. Yellowbeagle 0 Posted January 23, 2018 I agree with indy on this one. I think loans are fine if they are with a view to buy or are filling an injury crisis. But really dont like seeing chances given to other teams young players while we have lads who could get a game, if they wanted another Midfielder they should have not extended Godfrey''s loan or thrown alittle bit more money Aberdeen''s way and got McLean in earlier. However this might be aload of rubbish to be fair.
Grando 260 Posted January 23, 2018 It does you make you wonder whether these young loanee midfielders may be being lined up to cover for a departing Madison. I do hope not.
Indy 3,300 Posted January 23, 2018 No I don’t agree about ability of the player, he’s not ours, we’re in mid table and we need to blood our own, give them a taste now.I wonder just how many youngsters Southampton loan in over the years? They have a great record in bringing through their own youth players, surely we should do the same.Lewis and Murphy’ s show that this level isn’t that big a step to take. HertsCanary93 222 Posted January 23, 2018 If this is the last loan, I''m ok... but if we''re loaning a striker too, this is starting to remind me of the Roeder Loan years.Unproven teenagers from Premier League clubs who will be gone in 6 months. As others have said, why bother filling the gaps with talent from WBAs academy? Blood our own youth if we are that desperate to get players on the cheap.
Highland Canary 76 Posted January 23, 2018 Roeder revisited. With no chance of promotion, little chance of relegation, the club might as well limit the overdraft stick with what few are left and look for some tier three/four players for the relegations to come. What a fiasco.
Feedthewolf 4,846 Posted January 23, 2018 Heartily concur with Indy. If we''re going to persuade the naysayers to sign up for this ''revolution'', surely blooding our own Academy talent is an important weapon in our arsenal? We all feel a burst of pride when we see a youngster come through our youth setup and shine in the first team. We have invested significant money in acquiring and maintaining a Cat 1 Academy - now let''s help it bear fruit. There''s more than enough talent in our squad to keep us in the division, so why not supplement that talent with the brightest prospects from our U23 setup? Middleton, for example, may well turn out to not be ready for the rigours of first-team football just yet, but on the other hand, how will we know if we don''t try him out? He''s just turned 18 and has played several games for Scotland''s U19s (Scotland''s youth teams are actually quite decent).I''m not suggesting we put half a dozen kids in the matchday squad, but a little exposure to the first-team squad could give them a massive incentive to stay at the club and develop with us. Once you get a reputation for bringing youth players through, it breeds further success as your Academy''s reputation increases among young players and it becomes easier to recruit talent. king canary 7,606 Posted January 23, 2018 I imagine we''d have to pay a loan fee and his wages for the time here- for me it would have made much more sense to pay an extra £200kish to get McClean down here now and get him bedded in.

Indy 3,300 Posted January 23, 2018 Still don’t see the need to loan, in all reality, we’re not going down or up, it’s a league in which half the players aren’t really that great, so as seen, most youngsters can make the step upto cover for a few games, even fill the bench with them. It’s not like this WBA lad is a seasoned pro who can step in. But that’s just my view, I can’t see the point of two youngsters loaned in without any long term prospect of buying them, why blood others youngsters we have talented ones of our own ready to step up and give it a go!We’ve got three loan players already, I’m not sure we need another midfielder, surely a decent striker, again the only striker to raise his head was another loan players with not very good track record. Jim Smith 2,317 Posted January 24, 2018 I suspect and hope this is nonsense because as with other posters I think this would be a ridiculous thing to do. I also think the spurs loan is dubious for similar reasons (we have no chance of signing him) but I suppose one or extra sprinklings of quality doesn;t hurt and i suspect also that one is with half an eye to proving to spurs we are a good place for them to send youngsters on loan so we maybe get more in the future. As others have said I would much rather give the likes of Cantwell and Middleton (or even recall Phillips) a run out in the first team over the course of the rest of the season than loan youngsters from the likes of WBA or indeed this striker from Middlesbrough. Such loans are of no benefit to our club in the long term. Getting game time into our youngsters is.What possible harm can come from giving Abraham, Cantwell and Middleton the odd run out in the first team between now and the end of the season. These are not 16 year old kids and yes some may find it a big step up but they may equally flourish and surprise everyone with how well they adapt. I find it strange now that players who are 20/21 are still regarded as "kids." Back in the day promising youngsters were often played in the first team at a younger age and indeed just look how well Jamal Lewis has done.

Hoola Han Solo 448 Posted January 24, 2018 No way we’re getting in the play-offs. We don’t score enough goals and not consistent - especially at home. We’ll probably finish around where we are now. The rest of the season should be spent developing Farke’s playing style and bedding in players for next season, to prepare for the likely fire sale of our remaining valuable assets in the summer. Grando 260 Posted January 24, 2018 Exactly. Any further loanees who have no prospect of being here next year seem pointless.
AJ 1,219 Posted January 24, 2018 Agree with those above, only worth loaning if it is with view to permanent. With Gunn + Reed + the new guy we have enough on loan. It isn''t exactly helping us build for next season when we''ve got perfectly good alternatives out on loan already...
