1. Even his own daughter was disgusted with him (John, that is)It was an horrendous way to treat a family member and apparently their mother wasn''t at all supportive either. Although John has since apologised for his comments and behaviour, it is clear that a homophobic attitude was deep within him.  Different times, I suppose, and homosexuality was even less accepted back then (even now there is still a long way to go).We must remember that footballers/sports people are human beings like all of us and, while they say they''re thick skinned, I''d imagine they still feel deeply hurt by certain situations. Plus, mental health in men already has enough stigma surrounding it and this inability for gay sportsmen to come out while still in the game does nothing but to cause more hurt and frustration. It isn''t just an impact on said person''s life, it is most likely felt by many around them.Sadly, I don''t think football/other sports are any closer to eradicating this problem and it will always exist as long as there are ''supporters'' willing to create homophobic chants or mutter profanities of a similar nature.
 2. Wales are utter bobbins without Bale... Everyone always goes on about how teams need that ''special man'' and about how ''England don;t have one at the moment''I''d rather have a team of decent performers all round than just one or two and progress to the World Cup. Even if it is inevitable that England will get knocked out in qualifying!
 3. I wonder whether or not people would be so laid back about Josh not being in the side last night had we lost? Farke may have been blasted with footballing rhetoric on here and through other channels. In my opinion, Farke is doing exactly the right thing re Josh. Wildschut was really good again and in him we have an outlet with genuine pace. He''s also more inclined to track back and nick the ball of an opposing player''s toe than Josh is. Watkins isn''t as good of an option imo but, again, works really hard. Josh needs to wake up and realise that he needs to try and do those same kind of things in order to stay in the team.
 4. Don''t forget, we also have Raggett to join up with the squad in January. Our defensive woes look behind us and what a feeling that is!I do hope that Klose doesn''t leave, but if he keeps putting in these kinds of performances there is no doubt in my mind that we might need to fend off some interest. Question is... Would Timm want to go? He is an integral part of our side and seems to be enjoying his football. Would he be guaranteed starts at other clubs? I think he would, but only with lower league Prem teams and it''s possible, if we''re doing well, that he wouldn''t want to go and join a side that is sliding down the leagues. A defender takes pride in keeping clean sheets. It is the same feeling for them as it is for a striker scoring a goal. If we continue this way, surely he''d be very happy to stay?
 5.
Based on Farke''s press conference I think it will be Wes ahead of Madders. The latter has only just resumed training and the thought is he''s unlikely to be risked tomorrow night. So for me its Murph, Wes and Wildshutt behind Jerome. Oliveira could be back on Tuesday but more likely at Reading.
Ah yes. I''ve just seen that.
 6. I don''t think Wes will start tomorrow. Team will be like the OP says but with Madders in for Wes imo.
 7. Do not underestimate the importance of Tettey and Trybull in this run of clean sheets. With them screening the back four, we look a much more solid defensive unit.Klose has done brilliantly, adapted to this league now, but he was god awful last year at times. He''s already spoken about that and how he feels he has a better understanding of this league... but it isn''t all down to one man. Also, I feel RM would be able to slot in next to Timm (he will be needed this season certainly) and we''d still look good defensively. If we keep Tettey and Trybull (or Reed) in their respective roles, that is.
 8. I have to say, when I first read this post I wondered if it was a comment in relation to not losing games due to coach drivers not doing their ''homework'', perceived time wasting and whatever other excuse the manager could come up with.... Haha... "We will NOT stand for this"Glad folk are agreeing with my point about the manager. Atmosphere wasn''t quite as toxic until he started his histrionics. Absolute cry baby.
 9. If Sheffield Utd really want to remove this type of behaviour by their fans, then they should also look to remove their absolute whinge-bag of a manager, who didn''t help calm matters down by (as we all know) flipping out during the game and inflaming the situation more than it needed to be.
 10.
It was unfair on reed to have expected him to have played the lone holding role at millwall and Villa and should have played alongside tettey all along. Trybull has looked OK but reed looks a very good player
Trybull just OK? Not knocking your thoughts or anything, although I think he''s been very impressive. Others seem to have the same opinion. I think Farke might be more likely to play Trybull and Reed, of potential combinations, but we do have options now which is great.
 11. We have options of players to slot into that LB role (albeit not amazing options) now Stiepermann has played it (quite well) and it will be interesting to see how Lewis performs in this league when back from injury. He looked quite integral to what we were doing in friendlies and seemed incredibly lively from the games I managed to watch.I''m not going to bang on about how negative the OP is, our LB options do seem the weakest and I''d like to have improved there. However, as we needed the CB position sorting as a matter of urgency I''m happy that the investment was made in that position as a  priority.
 12.

You''re making his point for him.
Me?Don''t be a douche, mate. I explained what a FOTB was didn''t I?Now, crawl back into your shell. There''s a good lad.
Yes. You. Is FOTB wrath of the barclay''s sister site?
Ah ok. Great.I''ll let you off for the Fat of the Land picture ;-)

 14. Umm... The one when they boo RM every time he touches the ball?I think, in recent memory, it''s probably THAT game against Colchester... eek
 15. As the ensuing opinion piece alludes to, these comments from Savage are more against Ireland as a footballing nation rather than Wes personally.Which will probably land Savage in hot water with the Irish football loving population, admittedly! Rightly so too.He is saying that he''s surprised that Ireland are relying on Wes as a talisman. A 35 year old guy who isn''t playing week in, week out for his club team. That''s because he''s older now and has to be managed properly to get the best out of him each game. Although I''d love to see Wes play every week, I''m not sure his body would take it.So, Robbie Savage is an utter moron and we all know it, but let''s not try and pretend this is a personal attack on Wes from him. It isn''t.He also said that a ''fit Seamus Coleman is the only Ireland player who would get into the Wales side''...
 16. Yep. Complete insanity having multiple online personas. Weird, weird people and I agree that they need their heads read.I have had a couple of accounts, but it''s because I totally forgot my log in details. Which is another reason I couldn''t help but laugh at someone on here trying to shut me down once because I hadn''t posted that often. Hilarious! I suppose if you spend all day posting on this forum it clearly makes you a better fan than someone who doesn''t ;-)
 17.

https://www.racingpost.com/news/comment/racing-s-image-needs-guarding-but-should-not-be-shaped-by-the-public/299434 This is an excellent piece by Alastair Down. Illustrates beautifully how the general public don''t understand the betting or racing industries but latch on to apparently "right on" causes because it''s trendy to do so. This Labour thing is simply another cynical ploy to enhance their "for the people" image. It''d be interesting to see if they actually followed it through. Power to the punters.
I hadn''t had much of an opinion on this but I have just read that piece. It is far more about racing (and how the public doesn''t understand that horses like to be punched in the head) than it is about betting as such. As for the latter the writer doesn''t deny that there is a problem with something called Fobts, whatever that is or are, but seems only worried that a crackdown will hurt financially racing, as opposed to claiming that there is no justification for such a crackdown. Nor does the writer claim the fine that seems associated with Fobts was unjustified. The complaint is only that it got publicised:The ''record'' fine on 888 would have generated much less publicity were it not for news editors and columnists finding themselves a cause in protecting problem gamblers, the young particularly, who are seen as victims of Fobts and their capacity to empty pockets at an alarming rate. That is a paragraph that really shouldn''t have been written by anyone hoping to sway undecideds to their cause. Nor should this one:The Russell incident [that is the punching  a horse on its head] is grist to the mill of animal welfare groups who have long been fighting a guerrilla war against racing. It was a stupid act, but let''s not pretend that the same thing or worse does not occur in scores of racing yards every day.
Oh my goodness! That last paragraph...what on earth was the author thinking?! "Yeah it''s FINE to punch a horse in the head, because in racing yards they''re doing it regularly. They also poke them in the eyes with sticks and other horrid things...."Ps. FOBT is a Fixed Odds Betting Terminal. Machines with roulette, slots etc. that are found in most gambling shops.
 18. I had heard that the only way Nelson might leave is if a Prem team came in for him. Although he sometimes doesn''t look it, I feel he''s happy at Norwich and as found a permanent home, for once! With him having played for Swansea before, I''d like to think this one isn''t going anywhere. His time there before wasn''t great and, although they''re in the Prem, I hope that this fact would be in the back of his mind.It would be utter Norwich career suicide for Webber et al if they sanctioned this move.
 19.

Mad about the boy I know it''s stupid to be mad about the boy I''m so ashamed of it but must admit the sleepless nights I''ve had About the boy   On the silverscreen He melts my foolish heart in every single scene Although I''m quite aware that here and there are traces of the cad About the boy   Lord knows I''m not a fool girl I really shouldn''t care Lord knows I''m not a school girl In the flurry of her first affair   Will it ever cloy This odd diversity of misery and joy I''m feeling quite insane and young again And all because I''m mad about the boy   So if I could employ A little magic that will finally destroy This dream that pains me and enchains me But I can''t because I''m mad I''m mad about the boy

What on EARTH was this all about?! A brief moment of joy, from Vince? Or an ode to his favourite boy, whomever that may be? :-/
 20. Does it matter how good our CB''s are if an opposing player can get down our right side, easily, beat Husband to get to byline and cut it back or to whip a cross in without a challenge being made?Probably not...
 21.
Leeds fans think they are getting Oliviera plus cash for him! 😂
Hilarious! Leeds fans continue to be entirely deluded!
 22. We signed a defender (Raggett) then loaned him back to his former club. Because of this, and because Farke seems happy with his CB''s, I don''t think we''ll see another purchase in that part of the pitch. Rather annoyingly, I have to say. As I really feel like we need some pace and experience back there. We do have Klose to come back in and he will hopefully prove to be on form this season (although, just like Nelson, everyone seems to be convinced that we''re going to sell him! YAWN!)
 23.
Good that Nelson is fit again, also good news we only have 6 players away on International duties, lets hope none get injured Nelson, McGovern, Wes, Russ, Naismith, Gunn ( under 21''s )
We don''t know if he is fit again yet, Diane?
