  1. I seem to recall people saying "but we won't play Liverpool every week" when they beat us. Well neither will Leeds - and we have no idea yet whether their defending is any good or not.
  2. It is simply unbelievable that some fans can react this negatively to an away win and a clean sheet.
  3. Whatever you personally think about McLean, our manager has made it clear that he rates him as his best midfielder. Bar none. Is that clear now? He will start every game. Move on.
  4. Well thankfully Daniel Farke and his coaching team agree with me rather than you about McLean. Hugill I haven't seen play yet, but could he be a worse option than Drmic?
  5. What you should now do is spend half a day reviewing the video of that match and watch what McLean does, because you're clearly missing it in real time. Then you would find out why Skipp looked so good on his debut, and why our centre backs were so untroubled today. On the three occasions when Skipp was left stranded upfield and out of position, have a look at who it was who covered that space.
  6. Our first win with no fans. Hopefully the players will now get used to it. I thought we totally dominated the game without creating an awful lot, but that's because Huddersfield were set up to press and deny the space. Cantwell and Skipp both excellent and Pukki looked sharp when he got near the ball. Just having Gibson on the bench made Godfrey and Zimmermann better players.
  7. It's an away game at the start of a season with some new players against a team with a new manager. I'll take 0-0 all day.
  8. Yes, but all I'm getting is loads of adverts atm.
  9. Now that's impressive. If we win you're my pick for our next manager.
  10. That's true. We don't know anything about what happens at Colney or in the players lives. But we watch them play their 90 minutes and that's how we judge everything because that's all we can know. Farke is wrong to say that fans don't understand what they are looking at - lots of them do, but without knowing what the players have been told to do it's impossible to understand whether they are doing it well or badly. McLean is a great example of this - to most fans he is a solid, workmanlike, uninspiring, not particularly creative midfielder. To Farke he is the complete footballer. So he clearly does what he's asked to do very well - we just don't know what that is. Conversely we watch Todd Cantwell looking like a baller and judge that he's awesome by comparison, even though he's maybe been told not to surrender possession yet continually does so. Almost everyone else also judges the players just on the 90 minutes - the press, the TV companies, other clubs, scouts etc and whilst all of them may have some inside knowledge of some sort, they also don't understand everything they see. We speculate and judge just as they do and our opinions are as valid. Managers who tell the fans that they don't understand are generally on borrowed time.
  11. On this performance Fulham have no chance of surviving and our 21 points will be unachievable for them.
  12. We will have to overcome an energetic high press to win today and we've not been very good at doing that recently. Hopefully Huddersfield will make enough mistakes that we can capitalise but there is almost no chance of us keeping a clean sheet against this tactic. I think a high scoring draw is likely.
  13. The signings of Skipp and Dowell were masterstrokes, and hopefully Gibson will give us a bit more in defence too. I also think Martin could be a big player for us this year. Top 6 minimum, but unless I've missed some big transfer news so far with other clubs we really should win it again.
  14. I suspect you might be right. I hope he starts well and cements his place, but I fear a Jacob Murphy style career in Newcastle. It's a very different place to Luton and Norwich for a 22 year old lad on his own.
  15. And apart from that we needed to sell someone to pay for the incomings to date. I suspect the next one we sell will be rather more expensive.
  16. One of the first clubs in the UK to adopt the Moneyball approach, supplemented by a network of scouts.
  17. Really looking forward to seeing how Leeds do, Bielsa being the obvious reason. Without him, you're bottom; with him who knows? Leeds have already spent £60m according to transfermkt and haven't really improved thgeir squad too much. Who else would splurge £27m of that on a 29 year old Spaniard whose best days seem to be behind him? Historically, players like Rodrigo have not adapted well to the EPL but can Bielsa make him a player to score the goals they will need - they don't have anyone else. That was our problem once Pukki stopped scoring. Koch is presumably a replacement for Ben White; Jack Harrison returns; the others are just making permanent what they already had and we know how well that went for Villa. I think they'll have a similar season to Villa's last year - touch and go right to the end. But they'll give it a much better go than we did.
  18. Have to say I think it's hilarious that Newcastle fans are celebrating the capture of 3 players from relegated teams which are apparently the secret to them no longer being relegation candidates. And then you add in Almiron, Saint-Maximin and their other £40m donkey up front who have scored about 3 goals between them. Once again, they will have to hope that the promoted teams can't compete, otherwise they will be struggling. I think you can already call the relegation battle as any 3 from Fulham, West Brom, Leeds, Newcastle, West Ham, Brighton and Palace.
  19. Not much width or pace in that team and no out ball. I can't see him leaving out Stiepermann and I think we'll start with either Herenandez or Placheta so for me its Krul, Aarons, Zimmermann, Godfrey, Quintilla/McCallum Skipp, McLean Placheta, Stiepermann, Cantwell Pukki Subs: McGovern, Tettey, Dowell, Martin, Rupp, Hugill, Hernandez
  20. I'm surprised Newcastle are prepared to buy anyone else from us after we stitched them up for Jacob Murphy, but we should keep banking their money. I agree that Lewis is a bit overrated and he hasn't progressed quite as much as he perhaps should have done. Maybe he will at Newcastle but I'm sceptical - I think it's a toxic club with even more toxic fans and if he doesn't start well he may go backwards like Jacob. I don't rate Bruce as a coach, and he may have to unlearn much of what has made his game so impressive under Farke. Made for life perhaps, but career wise not reaching your potential must still be heart-breaking. And I suspect he will be involved in another relegation battle. As for the comparisons to Cash, Lewis is a full international and has a PL season under his belt, but Cash is the more naturally gifted player and likely to progress further in my opinion.
  21. It was a pre-season friendly with at least a reserve team. Good experience for some of the new and younger players - emphasised that the best days for Vrancic, Tettey, Stiepermann, Klose are behind them.
  22. Cantwell and Buendia should rip up the Championship. I doubt they'll both go, but Dowell is a very promising alternative. As for whether any or all will go, a good performance by any of them in the internationals this week and things can change very quickly.
  23. He's good enough to be in our first team squad and get a cap for a half decent international team. Clearly both of those managers like what they see, and they probably know a bit more about what he needs.
  24. Deeney will score tons in the Champs - hope he completes his move to West Brom soon.
  25. Some of you haven't been paying attention. When a coach says someone is "the complete midfield player" that generally makes him a starter. I suspect Maclean is the one player Farke does not want to lose as we have no one else who does what he does, which is to play whatever type of game asked of him - CDM, CM or AM, right, left or central. I suspect he'd also make a half decent full back. He's the kind of player you miss when he's not there. And always delivering at least a 6/10 with an occasional 7 or 8 is not at all bad. That would put him in the Sky power rankings almost every week.
