1. He''s better than O''Neill, better than Howson, more reliable than Tettey. Mulumbu hasn''t even played yet.Brady, i''ll give you. So, what if he gets injured? Who fills in on the left? Jarvis? Sure, he was great 5 years ago, but the West Ham fans reaction should tell you all you need.Stop talking garbage.
2. Cracking signing...... If we''d made it 5 years ago.
3. It''s not even as strong as it was 2 hours ago...
4. Hughton''s tactics may have been a valid excuse for Leroy looking so lazy whilst in a City shirt. However, the fact he looked exactly the same under two different managers at QPR last season too, would suggest the failing is entirely his own.Decent player on his day, but clearly believes he''s better than he actually is and could never be bothered to put in the required effort. We''re much better off without him, and i can''t see him doing much to improve Sunderland. They''ll still go down, and good riddance too.
5. Not an away game goes by where i''m not thankful for the location, the amenities, the ease of access, and the character of Carrow Road.It will be a sad, sad day when we follow the current trend of moving to some identikit business park, merely to add that extra % or two to our income.Ricardo got it right - this thread is attempting to solve a problem which doesn''t exist.
6. Was wondering about the pub myself so thanks for that.As for the escorts to and from the ground, in August there was neither. Which, according to Suffolk Constabulary resulted in the minimum amount of trouble at any derby game in their history, so i''ll be surprised if they change tactic for Saturday. If you''re heading back to Norwich after the game, don''t worry unduly about train tickets, or catching a train at a particular time. They tend to just herd you on the first one with any space, and i''ve never had a ticket checked on the way back. You''ll be fine whichever train time you booked.
7. No, you were right the first time - it''s delusion. And although i can''t speak about finishing 10th, finishing 11th and 12th in the Premier isn''t as exciting as being in with a shout of winning the Championship, no.Though the first year is always enjoyable!
8.
I''m not so sure, and I don''t mean to be demeaning about our fanbase, but your example shows people are dazzled by goals.People who know a bit more appreciate a player like Johnson, or a previous favourite of mine, Gary Holt.
Agree with that, but you have to admit, goals stand out. They''re what people remember, weeks or months after the majority of the game has faded from memory. It''s only understandable that people will take them into consideration more than other features of play when deciding who''s been ''best'' over the course of a season.Hence why the majority of journalist admiration is directed at forwards, i guess.I don''t think it''s any coincidence that Bradley has seemingly become a better player since Holt rejoined the club.
9. Undoubtedly so, Morty, but i''m not sure Johnson is a good example of it.Might just be my experiences, but aside from a vociferous few on this forum, i''ve always got the impression most City fans appreciate Johnson''s qualities. It''s just that this season, with the addition of his goals, those people have become more vocal in their praise, in turn.Crofts, on the other hand, is a prime example of it. POTS for essentially one goal... But that said, there wasn''t a whole lot of competition in that utterly abysmal season. Even reading the squad list makes me wince.Back on topic, i was only young but i remember Dave Phillips being brilliant. Surprised he never won it, reading that Wiki link.
10. Crook is a great shout. Thanks for the link, Morty.
11. Following on from a discussion in the pub after the game yesterday, i thought it''d be interesting to see the opinions of people on here. So, as the title says, who''s the best ever Norwich player to never win The Barry Butler Memorial Trophy?Predictably, this all came up after someone suggested Wes. He''s certainly a good shout for me, but the seasons of the early to mid 90s must hold some candidates. Fox or Robins, maybe? A little later, but Bellamy? My knowledge is hazy of the pre-80s, having not been born, but i daresay there''d be some suggestions from some of the older fans.
12. He''s not only our best player, still, but he''s the best player in this division, and by quite some way.
13. The home game in March 95 is the only one i can think of to rival Sunday. They were battling relegation from the Premier, we''d not won in 11 games and were sinking fast.
14. Lafferty is out on loan. O''Neill injured. Tettey''s knees can''t take the regular Saturday/Tuesday schedule. And Dorrans is a quality player.Seems pretty obvious to me why he''s been signed, Indy.
15. Jonno has been almost criminally underrated by the fans since he signed for us.If every player shared his attitude, we''d have never got relegated last season.Hopefully he gets the reward he deserves and wins POTS this year. He''s been head and shoulders our best player this season. That said, i personally think Tettey was the best player on the pitch yesterday, but couldn''t have argued with any of him, Jonno, or Grabban winning it.
16. In this day and age, there''s really no reason why there shouldn''t be a Netflix style website, run by Sky or whoever owns the rights, where you can pay £2 or whatever to watch the game of your choice live on the ''net. Have every game, from every league in the country. They''re all filmed anyway for the highlights shows so the cameras are there. You don''t even need to pay for commentators. Television coverage is generally better without, anyway. You''d make a fortune over the course of a season. It wouldn''t impact on attendances, at least no less than the ludicrous ticket prices already do, as fans still want to get to games. But give them an opportunity to watch on the occasions when they can''t.
17. Poor old Peter.Great player in his day, and did a decent job for us as captain of an utterly appalling side; the second worst i''ve ever seen - behind Roeder/Gunn''s shower of sh**. But, Christ, he got it wrong as manager. I remember him blaming the 3-2 Hull defeat and Carrow Road on the fans - and he''s been a bitter sod since that day...
18. Newton, that''s an utterly moronic attitude to have towards a guy who has given his all to us as both a player and assistant manager.Really, what is up with these so called ''fans'' our club has?Give me strength...
19. If they are genuinely the ''best squad in the division'', they''ll be thinking something along the lines of how they''ve let down two managers already and should really start bucking their ideas up and earning their over-inflated wages.
20.
We all know that any managerial appointment is a gamble. But there''s gambles and gambles. If Rosler, Robinson and Warburton are, say, 3-1 shots to be a success then this has to be 10-1 plus. I wanted something a bit different, but I am still stunned at this one. But then I have never heard of him and I still, despite what has gone on with Hughton and Adams, have faith in McNally so I''m here for the ride...........if this is what he thinks is right then get it done. It will be bloomin'' fascinating to see how it goes.
On what basis, exactly?Robinson: the perennial nearly man, who STILL - despite 4 years at the helm; despite being one of the bookies favourites every year, despite managing  a comparatively loaded Mk Dons side - has failed to actually achieve promotion.Rosler: admittedly looked good at Brentford, but seeing as they''ve become even more successful after he left, i''m not sure how much of the credit can go down solely to him. Did a pretty shockingly poor job at Wigan this year, following on from a season where he missed out on promotion despite having what they''re fans would undoubtedly call ''The Best Squad in the Division''. (Sound familiar, anyone?)Warburton? Well, i''ll give you that one. But he''s even less experienced than Alex Neil. And judging from this forum, experience is all important, so he''d inevitably be a failure.I''m about as happy with this seemingly inevitable appointment as i would be with any of the other candidates.
21. He''s done little enough on the pitch lately, so may as well keep him busy.
22. I''ve said for years he''s probably our most underrated player.Absolute lynch-pin in the middle of the park. He''s a better passer than he gets credit for, is the best of our midfielders in the tackle, and as good going forward as any of them.Brilliant to watch when he''s in form, like recently.
23. He''s hit a purple patch after breaking into the first team of the team he supports. But, dare i say it, he''ll be fully ensconced in the Championship within 3 years. That''s his level. Now watch him turn into the next Romario...
24. Fair enough. It is frustrating, i''ll give you that.Obviously that should''ve been ''4 central midfielders'' in the post above.
25. I can''t speak for Adams i''m afraid. But let''s not turn this into yet another debate on Neil, eh? Maybe this admittedly rather lacklustre 4 central defenders idea is how he''s planning on being more solid for the full backs? Beyond that i couldn''t say.Agree with you completely on Elliot Bennett. I''ve always thought he''d make a good right back, to be honest.
