  1. Of numerous midfielders that have come and gone in recent years, Rupp is one of those who'd fit in well with our current squad. PLM looked the part in flashes but they weren't sustained. The player he looked like he could be is now very much on show.
  2. Leyton Orient. London minnows swimming against the tide. Had some good players too. Ian Bowyer, Laurie Cunningham, Peter Kitchen, John Jackson, Barry Fairbrother.
  3. Liverpool. So many reasons. Man Utd. ....think that's it.
  4. Definitely. The agent works for and on behalf of the player. So he pays. Why the club should foot the bill is a mystery.
  5. I agree but the problem there is that players who look good enough to be part of a side that achieve more in the Premier League than just go straight down again aren't going to hang around for 2-3 years as part of 'the plan'. You either have a decent enough team to get promotion and they'll (mostly) stay...as would presumably be the case if we went up this season...or you have a decent enough side that just misses out and loses its best players because of that-which will also, presumably, be the case if we don't go up this season.
  6. All that matters is that we win. We've done our job. If others crack at this crucial time and Ipswich benefit, then its to their cost, not ours.
  7. McKenna and attempt at mind games prior to the game. Wagner and the players won't take this "news" seriously at all. If they *genuinely* had a problem of this nature, the club's PR machine would shut up shop and not a word of it would be allowed out. As others have already said-rather pathetic.
  8. Woods Culverhouse Watson Bruce Bowen Peters Crook Phelan Huckerby MacDougall Boyer B Gunn, Drury, Fleming, Williams, Buendia, Sutton, Drinkell.
  9. Gray a shoe-in I'm guessing. Attracting the attention of bigger clubs already (he'll be gone if Leeds don't go up) and has played in a lot of games this season-over40, and less than two years since he signed as a scholar. But a well deserved nod to JR for the impact he has had and name he is making for himself. Hope he is still here in August, maybe his injury will put clubs off from having a serious look at him until January.
  10. He won't be their next manager. They might have a coaching role in mind for him, same as Gary O'Neill, who has been linkeed, but not with the managers role. Suspect they want continuity which means a high calibre assistant who is familiar with the English game and who might, a few years down the line, step up and into the top job. McKenna will give Ipswich at least another season if they go up. Much like Lambert with us, his stock will be highest if he keeps them there-and with more points deductions looming for a few current Premier League teams, they've a chance.
  11. Yes, a big stepping stone! But he can play at a higher level and if his fitness is good now (he's been in and out over all that time) then he may yet get another chance at a bigger club. Guess he's Oxford's version of Lungi!
  12. Agree, don't think he has played himself into a place where we're going to want to make an offer for him. So he'll be returned to sender, Josh likely to leave, Idah unlikely to be keen on returning and Aboh another likely departure. Loan market for a striker or two this summer then? Wasn't there high hopes of the young lad we got from Man City?
  13. Thinking Oxford is a stepping stone for Josh to get fitness and confidence enough back to play at a higher level again, definitely a top Championship team level player.
  14. Seems clear and obvious enough.
  15. Two 'contenders' for England's national anthem are 'Jerusalem' and 'I Vow To Thee My Country'. As the latter speaks mostly of peace and love rather than routing enemies, winning battles or swearing eternal loyalty to the monarch, I'd go for that one.
  16. They'll find a way of running Bellingham down Herman, of that we can be certain. Probably with around 48 hours or so to go before our first Euro 2024 match. It could be that he has an 'EXPENSIVE CAR' or a 'JEWEL ENCRUSTED WATCH' but, as sure as night follows day ( 'Bellingham Lives In A Ten Bedroomed MANSION that was once owned by a BANKER'), the Daily Mail will find a way...
  17. When does the first "You're not allowed to say Happy Christmas any more" story appear in the tabloids?
  18. I thought I couldn't be any more indifferent to an England friendly than I was to the Brazil match at the weekend. But then tonight's game came along. Pedestrian all round and 1-1.
  19. ....CEO, or whatever their title is. I know. This is prehistorically retro in tone. But. We had David McNally. Great for the soundbite, in your face, posed photo with boxing gloves and many a headline. Left the job after one public utterance too many. Then there was Jez Moxey. Whose role was to be Jez Moxey. Not with us long. But never far from thought and thread or Pink Un. Webber. It's all been said. And he is done. But a man and image that was never far from the headlines, speculation, gossip, confrontation and condemnation. In amidst the bits that were football related. McNally II in some ways. Now Ben Knapper. Seems more of a background figure. If not camera shy then happier behind his desk than in front of the afore mentioned. Getting on with what needs to be getting on with little drama and no endless podcasts and You Tubes. "When's he going to SAY something?" people have said. "When's he going to comment about this, that, the other and recruitment?" But I quite like the fact he seems content to be not so often seen or heard. And just get on with the job. Time will tell. But one of his greatest assets might well be his relative (to his predecessors) anonymity.
  20. Of all the young players looking to break through next season, I'd put Adegboyega at the front and the most likely to be a first team regular by this time next year. Likewise, in time, Montoia. Think the two of them are stand outs at the moment in a very promising group.
  21. Has any major TV network signed up to show their games, regularly and live? We have live games here in England right down to National League North/South level as well as Scotland, Italy, Spain, Germany and France. No MLS that I'm aware of. Would give some of them a go. Portugal and Holland too. King's Lynn vs Tamworth live in the UK but not a hint of Al Ittihad vs Al Hilal et al. Are their games similarly persona non grata in mainland Europe as well? If attendances and TV coverage remains poor, the Saudi's will step up their efforts to get major games from other leagues played out there. A Champions League final? I wouldn't bet against it, despite what UEFA have said to the contrary.
  22. The old '....ah, he needs time to settle' argument is always thrown into the equation in such instances. Idah didn't seem to need it! PVH has come from Italian football, so mitigating circumstances there. He's gone from dancing the waltz to the foxtrot, football wise. So not so much a case of fitness per se, as fitness needed for English football, as opposed to Italian football: and the SPL is as blood and thunder as the Championship is, hence Idah adjusting quickly. Suspect we may see Idah leave (does anyone think he'll want to come back here?) and, ultimately, we don't take up any option to sign PVH. Maybe we'll look to the US for another striker.
  23. Kalvin Phillips set to join Mason Mount in the England 'Where Are They Now?' pile.
  24. Non story. Guests there at every game who get the pre match meal etc and sit in the directors box gratis. Same applies to guests of visiting team.
  25. Out of all our young centre backs, I reckon Adegboyega is the nearest to the first team for next season. Can we keep hold of them all? Doubt it-so Tomkinson may get another loan next season at a higher level, if he continues to impress, it'll be as it was with Mumba, either his parent club or another will want to buy him. The bottom line of academies is indeed training and preparing young players for a professional career as a first team player....somewhere. Just not neccessarily with the club they do all of that with.
