  1. I thought it would be about Laurence Fox : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68899248
  2. Saw something on the front lawn today which I know happens but have never witnessed before. A magpie had pinned a blackbird to the ground and was beating it to death with it's beak before flying off with it. Difficult to like magpies , especially since they have moved into urban areas.
  3. The costs to the economy of smoking far outweigh any taxes raised. https://ash.org.uk/media-centre/news/press-releases/new-figures-show-smoking-costs-billions-more-than-tobacco-taxes-as-consultation-on-creating-a-smokefree-generation-closes
  4. Perhaps Farage was about to display his Khyber Pass in public for money again , hence the swift police action.
  5. He was wearing an Australian rugby league top , which should have given everyone pause for thought.
  6. Don't forget the water: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-67564205
  7. Says Lord Rothermere , the Mail proprietor , and Lord Ashcroft . Two of the biggest tax avoiders in the UK. In Ashcroft's case £112 million between 2000 and 2010 . And he is worried about Raynor's alleged few thousand ? Not forgetting Lord Rothemere astonishingly inherited his non-dom status from his father. Who knew that was possible. .https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2010/sep/27/lord-ashcroft-tax-conservative
  8. Was it this bloke ? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-65056029 He is a self confessed t-o-s-s-e-r.
  9. That's where Reggie Kray died. Probably paying homage.
  10. When it comes to honours , the elevation of Charlotte Owen to the HOL is a strange one . We can only speculate .
  11. 94.6 per cent of the NHS budget is spent on day-to-day items such as staff salaries and medicines. As none of these get cheaper each year there is no real credit in a government boasting about how much they have increased the budget , they are compelled to do so. Since the Conservative party has been in power (2015/16), spending has increased by 2.8 per cent a year on average in real terms , that is barely enough to just stand still. The IFS are predicting real-terms cuts of around 1.2% in day-to-day NHS spending for 2024-2025.
  12. Perhaps she was not in hospital for abdominal surgery but plastic surgery and a full face lift.

  15. Not hard to tell at all , the BBC actually publishes the numbers and tells you what they complained about. Most of the complaints would appear to be from nutters. https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaint-service-reports
  16. No surprise to learn you couldn't care less about the abuse directed at Abbott , the next time you adopt your favoured high moral tone someone will remind you of that hopefully. Unlike yourself , I disapprove of all threats and abuse directed at MPs . Whatever the politics of the perpetrators .
  17. Most threats to MPs are directed at women and those from an ethnic minority , and it has been going on for years. Diane Abbott receives the most threats , Anna Soubry needed police protection for voting against Brexit , Sadiq Khan has to have 24hr police protection. As none of this threatening behaviour emanated from " Islamists " it probably passed you by. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/diane-abbott-abusive-tweets-female-mps-amnesty_uk_59ae6b83e4b0354e440c36c1 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6207741/County-councillor-72-called-Diane-Abbott-monkey-charged-communications-offences.html https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49211222

  22. As predicted in 2016 but dismissed as " project fear " at the time. "Several factors make Britain less attractive than the EU to the pharmaceutical trade, Hill said.“The UK has additional regulations, higher taxes and is a much smaller country to work with than the European region. Those are all disincentives for drug manufacturers to supply to the UK, a country of 66 million people, when they have a much bigger market of [450 million] nearby that is eager to secure their products.” https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/jan/25/eu-plan-medicine-stockpile-uk-record-shortages
