IS IT ILLEGAL - I DON'T KNOW?

Recommended Posts
You don''t get it do you? It''s a form of piracy, your not paying the producer (the club) to watch there services (The game). It''s illegal. All streams are.
so you have never read a book or a newspaper that you didn''t pay for? Because by your logic that is also illegal.

You cant possibly make viewing something an illegal act, don''t be ridiculous.

I don''t why the pink un is so touchy about people putting links to them on here, if it was a prosecutable offence to do so then google and every other search engine would have been shut down a long time ago.

Because mr McNasty would put pressure on Archant over people advertising how to watch it for free without subscribing to media outlets from which the football club earn revenue.

Tilly''s spot on. If you spread the word via pm the end result is the same but the messageboard''s safe from McNasty.

McNasty''s only doing his job protecting the Norwich City brand.  He''s not being petty. This is a very real issue. If the streams carry on unchecked then the price of the Premier League will be devalued. Sky will pay less because they wouldn''t have an exclusive deal.

There may indeed even have been an incident a while ago that - I think - didn''t get into the public domain in which the club acted (slightly at one remove) against people watching games for free. Not streams in that particular case, but something similar.
Ref SDP''s reminder concerning streaming games. Are all these streams actually illegal? I thought it was a grey area, they ate sponsored by advertising etc.
I''m sure people can put the right combination of words into a search engine to come up with the sites we are not allowed to mention!

This is a complicated issue which in a lot of ways reflects the commercialisation of the game nowadays.

Streams are a marvellous thing for exiles like myself as even the few games I would attend in any season are now difficult to plan for because they are virtually sold out in any case.

The last stream I watched, Ajax last night, being aware of this thread too, the ground was festooned with advertising boards that presumably the Club were paid handsomly to exibit. The advertisers would want as big an exposure as possible to pay these sumss and I would bet that far more were watching on stream than at the game. There were also seemingly hours of Dutch adverts as well which on my stream went on into the start of the match.

Complicated.

I am not getting into what''s right or wrong, but It''s not surprising that such streams exist though

- Availability of match tickets and prices

- Sky Sports, ESPN subscriptions aren''t cheap

- Radio Norfolk not available outside Norfolk unless you pay for it

- Even the ''live'' text commentary that the Pink Un used to provide, was clamped down on......................................

You''ve had the objective replies about City protecting it''s interests and Archant being susceptible to pressure so I''ve nothing to add to that but there is also a subjective issue.

Every web page and online activity belongs to someone.   Just because you have free access does not mean that there is not an owner.  Try registering for WACCOE with a Norwich address.   As someone else pointed out: "Archant''s site Archant''s rules".   If Archant ban streaming it''s  banned.  If Archant only allow us to post standing on one leg covered in goose grease then it has every right to do so and we either comply or leave.

If you want to post on streaming then you are entirely free to set up and run your own message board.  I can''t be bothered so I will use the Pinkun and am stuck with Archant''s rules, whatever and whyever they may be.

Archant can''t ban streaming and they can''t just make up any rules they want

So which media outlet was the game shown on last night that I could have subscribed to to watch the game that contributes to the clubs coffers ?  Was it on Sky,Virgin Media, CanariesWorld etc?

Yes they can. It''s Archant''s forum and they can make any rules they like and enforce them. They have told you they will not allow links to streaming sites , so that''s that. If they allow links to streaming sites it would leave them in a difficult legal position . People who don''t like such restrictions can of course simply clear off somewhere else.

To be honest Paul i have no idea but it was on Dutch TV so they must have paid for the camera to be there so it was for Dutch punters not for viewing by anyone in the UK.If Mr McNasty thought for one minute that it was being viewed legally in the UK he would have been wanting a fee for that as well believe me.

If I went into a shop, took the newspaper/book off the shelf and walked out of the shop with it without paying, then that would be illegal.

Watching Norwich City (or any other sport) isn''t a right it is a privilege - the same as watching a film, listening to music or reading a book.

There may have been an occasion, pretty much a year ago to the day, where Archant may have been publishing a publication for the club which could have taken the form of a Premier League Preview. It may be that when this was published the club found that there was advertising from pubs in Norwich where readers could go to watch every Norwich game live. That could possibly have resulted in every copy being removed from the newsagent shelves and may have caused a total reprint which could have incurred a great cost to someone...

There are loads of sites advertising the streams so its not a problem to find one is it?

The legality of these ''streams'' is completely irrelevant in this case as it''s completely Archant''s choice as to what they do or don''t allow to be discussed on THEIR site - be this legal or illegal topics of debate. Those who want to find these things will do without too much hassle so it''s a bit of a non-entity IMHO.Far more important things to be focusing on at the minute than Archant''s choices regarding what they do and don''t allow to be discussed...
I didn''t know that Radio Norfolk had a subscription service, nbs ?Incidentally Radio Norfolk can be picked up well outside Norfolk, certainly in Cambs and parts of Essex, and presumably Suffolk too ( if the locals are at all interested )

I think you may indeed refer to 10,000 copies which were withdrawn because the Club were responsible for the content and Archant for advertising and printing but when Mr McNasty spotted adverts from 3 pubs advertising all games including all the home games "live" he had a little hissy fit.
