a1canary 0 Posted March 17, 2011 On the one hand it''s disappointing, but on the other we are showing again that we won''t be dictated to or held to ransome. They are gambling on us gambling to try and secure for themselves what is frankly a ludicrous fee for the player. Their gamble hasn''t paid off. But to be honest, they can afford to take the gamble because they win either way. Either they get a massively over-inflated fee for their player or they keep the player and the team together that will almost certainly, on current form, get them promoted. It''s annoying, but i think anyone else would do the same.
kdncfc 28 Posted March 17, 2011 Think Mcnally released that statement to make sure the player knows that Posh have moved the goalposts hoping he''ll be unhappy and ask for a move forcing Posh to talk again.
Noseybonk 0 Posted March 17, 2011 We''ll go with what we''ve got and hope for no more injuries. It''s not as if they''ve done too bad, is it?
Old Shuck 291 Posted March 17, 2011 Agree A1.It''s pretty much a win-win situation for Peterborough. They''re trying to screw us for far more money than the player is worth. We didn''t pay over the odds for Fox, nor Crofts, and Holt was, what £400''000?The fact Peterborough reportedly agreed the principles of the deal and then decided to move the goalposts and ask for more puts me off it right away. Interest closed, end of, move on.
woody 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Fine by me. Don''t want to be held to ransom!
nutty nigel 7,902 Posted March 17, 2011 If CMS really wants to come to Norwich then that statement is far from the end of the matter.
CharlieFarlie 0 Posted March 17, 2011 That will certainly put off clubs approaching them if they set a fee then change their minds, unbelievable Come CMS - we need you to kick a fuss up, they have stopped you progressing your career because they are plain greedy. You have no loyalty to them now! The Yarmy is waiting to welcome you with open arms! [;)]
Andy Larkin 15 Posted March 17, 2011 Big Dave is a breath of fresh air compared to Doomy isn''t he? Bad news or good he does seem to understand the whole PR much better than Doomcaster… You read what he''s said and he''s already turned it into a "They moved the goal posts etc:, move on, nothing to see here"… and you''re left thinking old motor-mouth Fry and the Fennets have tried it on. Wether they have or haven''t is another matter but thats how it seems.A very professional operator with a hint of Mandelson about him…
Salopian 1 Posted March 17, 2011 It''s probably true that they were in a win-win situation, although there did seem to be some desperation in it - coming over to Norwich this afternoon doesn''t sound like a "take it or leave it" demand. What it will cost them is a little uncertain. The value of the player will fall, and he has already said that he will walk away next year. So unless they can persuade one of the big clubs to pay £3m this summer, his value will go down to perhaps £1m next January. For us, we seem to have lost a good goal scorer, who may or may not be able to score at Championship or even Premiership level. If we are promoted we shall need to spend considerably more than £3m in the summer, unless PL can find a bargain somewhere. We shall probably need two strikers and a right back as cover. Premiership players do not come cheap.
Morisons Prozac 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Dead deal to me, but we won''t know for certain until next thursday.
Stowmarket Canary (not Delia) 0 Posted March 17, 2011 I know they probably don''t want to sell their prize asset like we wouldn''t have wanted to sell Grant Holt last year, but what McNally has described doesn''t surprise me in the slightest! Barry Fry is footballs equivalent to Del Boy and their Chairman is a publicity grabbing big time wannabe!!! I''d have liked to see the player join, but i''m glad we haven''t given in to their dodgey tactics of negotiations! I just feel sorry for the player.
Row D Seat 7 0 Posted March 17, 2011 I cannot see anything changing with this situation. The deal seems to be dead and I wouldn''t expect McNally, Lambert etc to just agree to the terms, as we are not that desperate. We''ve reached 2nd place by three points, with nine games to go, without the services of CMS and with effectively one striker, so we are in good shape. That said, I hope we don''t fall short. I''ve fancied Cardiff to do something this year from day one, and still think they could nick automatic promotion from us and Swansea. CMS deal is finished. As someone else said, we just move on! CanaryOne 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Still leaves us needing a striker before next Thursday , we are the ones who could miss out on £90 million if Holt was to get injured .Second striker has been the weak link all season and it should have been sorted in January. The Young One 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Totally Glad we walked away.If the player wants it enough, he can now hand in a transfer request.Judging by watching us against Leicester and Bristol we have enough to keep 2nd place.Lansbury up front ?

I''ll take an Andrew Crofts or David Fox over Premiership prima-donnas every day of the week!
a1canary 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Sorry Andy but i think you''re insulting McNally by comparing him to Mandy! That man is a slippery snake who''d tell you black is white if he thought it made him look good. I think the point is that DM doesn''t do PR, he just tells it as it is. Mandelson most definitely does do PR and tells it anyway he likes if he thinks he can get away with it!
walks on water 0 Posted March 17, 2011 McNally is a breath of fresh air. Worth his weight in gold.Absolutely love his professionalism. That article on the Offy site is spot on for me. God what it''s like to have a proper Chief Exec, Manager and football team for a change. Almost makes the years in the wilderness worth it

GMF 1,010 Posted March 17, 2011 What the player wants, the player usually gets! Still mileage in this one of CMS throws his toys out of the pram. Watch this space.
nutty nigel 7,902 Posted March 17, 2011 Not sure McNally tells it how it is. I think he tells it from his point of view. We like that point of view and the club''s on the up. In the old days this would be seen as lack of ambition.

drurys dodgy knee 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Can''t help but wonder whether the ''goalposts were moved'' after Dion got involved on telly on Monday. Just a thought that Posh may have literally been trying to make us pay for Dion''s interference in the deal.

The similarity between early New labour and our club now can be seen because like us they werethe up. The same sentiments when the club or political party is on the slide would be viewed in a different way. McNally has already said that he recognises football is cyclical just like politics. Eventually on the up levels out and then it''s much more difficult to be a breath of fresh air..
