Calsworth 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Even though I was born in Tottenham and lived there most of my life, i''ve recently moved to Norwich and slowly getting used to life hereJust thought I was say, what a cracking set of supporters Norwich City has, I''ve never in my life heard of a third tier team nearly selling out at home week in/week out to 24,500+ - it''s going on borderline crazy!I''ve been to a few games and trust me when I say that you have some talented players in Hoolahan/Holt/Martin/Smith/Forster/Mcnamee - Don''t know much about Oli but he looks good to, it''s definitely a squad which I expect to be above mid-table in the championship next season, possibly play off''s - seriously guys!Anyway, as I said, I come in peace, since NCFC grows on me every day and I''m definitely a converted fan

Minster Canary 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Fair play mate, I''ve gone the other way, from Norwich area to Hertfordshire (similar), so it''s mainly Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea where I am - though I could never convert to any of those teams, still got my season ticket for Norwich! My step dad is a Spurs fan, so it''s a team who''s results I tend to look out for (mainly to wind him up if they lose), glad you''re getting used to life in the area, it''s a fantastic place and like you said, we have a terrific fan base which is getting what it deserves at the moment, success on the pitch. The gut 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Spurs may always be your team, but if you stay here you''ll probably end up being a season ticket holder, like the others

Friendly people, cheap area, and the accents are no way as bad as I was expecting.. Yet to hear a strong farmer accent!
City penguin 0 Posted March 11, 2010 go out 10 miles into the countryside and you will hear a fair few. Still i think its far better than hi jacking a Fake cockney accent e.g ipswich colchester cambridge and most of east anglia these days. Norfolk will always be stereotypically looked down upon as a baron boring farmland.
Suffolk exile 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Clearly you haven''t had your canary call baptism yet then!Interesting point. East Anglia as a whole I think has a bad reputation for being a backwater when in my view it is relatively well connected (to London at least), prosperous and forward thinking. Minster Canary 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Same as you, better than I had expected, been down here for nearly 8 years and growing to love the area, plus it''s only a 3 hour round trip to Carrow Road (a lot less than others on here)
TheNewBoy 0 Posted March 12, 2010 I take note of your lack of reference to Gary Doherty, and understand this fully. I quite like Spurs, if only because of the many links between the two clubs. Martin Peters for a start, then there is Culverhouse, Bowen, Crook. We got Paul McVeigh off of you, had Peter Crouch on loan (must feel slightly silly for paying £10m for a player that your club rejected though?), you bought David Bentley, we had Dean Marney on loan from you lot too (although he looked rubbish, christ knows how he has ended up playing Premiership football). Then there was that bloke with a funny name who we loaned from you last year, only to send him back because he "missed his mates". Both had Callum Davenport at the club too....I could probably go on if it wasn''t 2:30am..... But defo a fair few links between Spurs and Norwich.... with Martin Peters being the greatest one.... Most people think a Norfolk accent sounds the same as a West Country accent which I am sure you have found inacurate.I have also found that generally speaking most people in the South East (let alone London) don''t have a great deal of knowlege about Norwich or some of the more isolated Cities this country has. As for the stick we always get about being inbred etc - I have seen some estates in London where your strange if you end up with anyone not off the estate. However that said - please do play along with all of these silly stories, tell people its horrible and that you can''t understand the accent - its all just our way of ensuring Norwich stays as brilliant as it is! I only have one tiny gripe with Norwich and thats got absolutely nothing to do with the people or the place itself, it just doesn''t have a nightclub (that ive found) to cater for specialist underground music week in/week out. A tiny nuisance, at most.

Jacko 0 Posted March 12, 2010 I think there was a more fundamental problem than Archibald Henville missing his mates. He was actually awful. Roeder signed him on recommendation without looking at him (sounds like Brian Hamilton all over again...). He got him down here and realised there was no way he could start a first team game. Hence why he even played Adam Drury at centre back before this guy. So eventually it became clear that he might as well go back to Spurs and play for their reserves rather than ours. In one of his plays in the 1930s or 40s a female character says "very flat, Norfolk" which in fact was a sly double entendre relating to the, erm, ''lack of cleavage'' of a love rival who happened to come from Norfolk, not a reference to the place itself. The play was very popular at the time and "very flat, Norfolk" became a catchphrase. The reputation of the county (and by extension the city) sort of grew from there and persisted long after people had forgotten the phrase itself. Not that we''re bothered. In some ways it''s thanks to Noel Coward that Norfolk/Norwich is still a fairly well kept secret.
