Attendance Stats

Recommended Posts

Just took a look at the attendance stats of the Premier League and Championship

We have a higher average attendance than seven clubs in the Premiership (Hull, Fulham, Burnley, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Bolton and Wigan)

And we would be the 5th best supported club in the Championship after Newcastle, Derby, Sheffield United, Newcastle and Leicester

I can''t get to games living on the other side of the world, but well done to all who do go - fantastic support. [<:o)]

I wonder how our away support compares to others?

There are two things that can be said from this...

Wondefull support from Norwich fans :D

and also, how poor a lot of other teams support is...... i really can''t belive we have a better average attendance, than 7 Premireship teams.....

As Leeds had 36,000+ for the visit of Huddersfield at the weekend, I''m assuming that their average attandence will now be back above ours. I''m sure that someone with more time than me will find the stats somewhere on the www.

And of course, unlike some of the clubs above us – Stoke and Leicester for instance – we are totally constrained in getting a higher average gate by our capacity. If we had a 32,000+ stadium I''ve no doubt we''d be up in the top 15 or higher on this table. We might not fill it every time but occasional matches with gates above 30,000 would send the average soaring - and in the prem we probably would fill it every game.

It really hacks me off to see the likes of Stoke above us, since when we last played them in the Championship, when we were on our knees and they were in the play off positions, the attendance was no more than about 14,000. Shocking club, crap fans, which can be said for a number of those teams in the prem at present.

To be fair to Stoke they get capacity crowds every game so could do with a higher capacity!

But they had modest crowds for years so have suddenly acquired a load of fairweather Premiership fans!

We certainly could do with Carrow Roads capacity rising above 30,000 minimum!

Eventually I think we could do with the capacity being as near to 40,000 as possible if we are to fulfill our maximum potential!

Interesting point Wembley-canary- just shows that its more about TV money than gate money these days.

I think that %age of stadium filled as an average is a better measure as it measn that smaller clubs can then genuinely be compared to bigger clubs in terms of loyalty. So a town like Yoevil could conceivably be more loyal than Leeds since Leeds have a high population and a huge stadium so will always win on attendance but not necessarily on loyalty.

It does beg the question about the ''giants of the Premiership''!

[/quote]

Too much local competition? The geographical spread of Premiership clubs makes interesting viewing when analysing attendance figures.

Prem clubs by location

I can more than vouch for that living in Stoke for uni the last 3 years or so.

When they were in the CCC I saw three games in a couple of weeks (two finished 3-2 so wasn''t all bad) purely because they gave away two free tickets when buying a Stoke v Scunny ticket I believe. Ground was half empty week on week, and very, very quiet too. Not a fan of the club at all. Think I read somewhere their attendances went up 166% or something in the Prem.

I remember reading a while ago that our attendance figures are slightly misleading because they include all season ticket holders, even though many of them do not necessarily turn up for every match. Is this reflected in other clubs'' stats as well?
