YankeeCanary 0 Posted May 11, 2008 Did what they had to do, so Reading and Birmingham join Derby for the drop.
Wembley_Canary 0 Posted May 11, 2008 I''m very pleased for them, no one gave them a hope in hell only a few weeks ago, but credit where it''s due, they showed fantastic character to keep going and didn''t bottle it on the final day like what we did.
Canary Pirate 0 Posted May 11, 2008 Wanted Fulham to come down, would have liked to have had a chance to avenge the 6 - 0 drubbing that sent us down. Happy for Birmingham to come down, what were they thinking about letting Steve Bruce go. Derby, what a woeful team and what a pathetic attempt at the premiereship, I hope they continue down into league one.
St.John Cooper 0 Posted May 11, 2008 would liked to have seem them go down after the 6-0 over us however they did what we can never do, and got a griity 1-0 away win to keep them up, they deserve it! Why can we never do this, is it an deep routed mentality? OTBC St.John

Mello Yello 2,588 Posted May 11, 2008 "Harrod''s First Eleven" remain in the money drenched ''Top-Flight''......8 seasons they''ve been there - and I seriously thought they were goners.....That''s Football.
Pyro Pete 2,395 Posted May 11, 2008 With four wins in their final five games you have to give Roy Hodgson a lot of the credit.Still, I would have liked to see them go down. But I suppose it''s better for us if the super-rich stay out of the Championship.

Those 1-0 away wins aren''t pretty but they show a steely resolve that can win trophies. Grant''s first game was a classic one at Birmingham. Shame it didn''t last! The best one this season was at Southampton, that was the classic 1-0 away win.

starman 0 Posted May 11, 2008 your joking right? i will never forgive them after putting us out of the premiership. to be honest im gutted they stayed up its the same every year. its time they taste some championship footy
The Voice of the Thorpe Area 0 Posted May 11, 2008 Am very pleased they stayed up- Hodgson seems a good guy.As for them relegating us- you don''t think that was anything to do with us playing like donkeys that day?

On that basis we''d have to blame both those teams and I can''t bring myself to do that.I blame my team and I think you should blame yours, too. As an alternative you can blame the Manager!I really cannot see the logic of blaming your opponents because they didn''t let you win, fervent supporters as we all are. I''d prefer not to rely on the other side myself. And, anyway, you have Reading and Birmingham and you''ll have a good league next season.
starman 0 Posted May 11, 2008 yes we were garbage i agree, but they inflicted fatal wound that day and cant say i much liked them since. Given a straight choice i would have rathered see reading stay up

We beat Man U but couldn''t beat Crystal Palace. The secret of staying up is to beat the teams around you. If we ever get back up I wouldn''t mind if we fielded a weakened side against the top 4 if it meant our best players were at their peak for the six-pointers. I don''t know Steve Coppell personally but many years ago I interviewed him for a news story and he is one of the most intelligent footballers I have ever encountered (and this was in his playing days). I know some of you will say that it is not too difficult but he really was in a different class in that time - and I speak as someone who had to "ghost write" for both Charlie George and Rodney Marsh.I did have the pleasure of seeing Steve play on a few occasions and, for the younger folk on here, he was a terrific committed wide player with great skill whose career was equally cruelly cut short by recurring injury. He also made a great story at the time. Buncey 1 Posted May 11, 2008 I dislike fulham because they are just a symbol of how the game has gone in the recent years. At least reading and brum still get decent gates when they were in the ccc. There''s no chance of fulham getting more than 15k regularly. To be honest I''m glad brum got relegated, I feel so sorry for ms. brady what a lovely woman. The brady bit is a joke though.
Jim Smith 2,653 Posted May 11, 2008 Fulham are a tinpot team who belong in league 1 and I am gutted they stayed up, particularly as it is my local ground and I was looking forward to going there next season! Also gutted we have to go to bl*8dy Reading again next year as it is a cr*p away day but I suppose at least it saves us the indignity of being a league below them any more! I#d have happily seen them go down - done nothing since they got promoted and it would be good to see that Fayed''s millions trying to buy success didn''t work out, but c''est la vie. blahblahblah 2 Posted May 11, 2008
Bit off topic, Man city got destroyed 8-1 today by Middlesborough.. Sven going now?...larger chance for Evans...?
Man City''s thrashing was apparently down to their position in the Fair Play League. After Dunne got sent off they were level pegging with Fulham, so they went the rest of the game not making any tackles. The worrying thing is one of these seasons a team''s going to get relegated because of another team winning against a team trying to get a UEFA Cup place by not making any tackles...
I remember when Steve Coppell first came to prominence in the 70''s. There was a lot made of the fact he was different. He didn''t progress through schoolboy then apprentice etc. he went through with his schooling and I believe he played for Tranmere as an amateur while he was at university. Manchester United then signed him from Tranmere and the rest, as they say, is history. Did he ever get his degree Camul?Anyway, Coppell was certainly bright enough to recognise what has been called "second season syndrome" but even with his intelligence he was powerless to do anything about it.
