Great Goals!

Recommended Posts

After seeing Dion''s and Semmy''s goals on the chapionship again yesterday it got me thinking of all the great goals I have seen since I have been watching football.

These are my top three;

1. Safri vs Newcastle 04/05 - I''m sure you all remember this one, where he was about 35 yards out and he hit a bullet, that hit the underside of the crossbar and went in.

2. Rooney vs Newcastle 04/05 - I was lucky enough to get a ticket for this match from my Dad''s friend who has a season ticket for Man United.  This was the goal where Rooney was arguing with the ref and then he took about two steps and volleyed it into the top corner.  An absolute peach!

3. Huckerby vs Birmingham 06/07 - I''m sure you can remember this one aswell.  This was last season when Huckerby ran the lenght of the pitch taking on 5 or 6 players and then striking it into the keepers left hand corner.  This is one of many great Huckerby goals I have seen!

What I would like to know is what are the best goals you have seen?  They don''t have to be from a Norwich match but, you had to be at the ground when they scored it.

Good thread. And very tough to decide, ill base it on best goals without looking at the situation (So Goss against Munich at Carra Rud, and Drurys equaliser against boro dont count)

Nedergaard vs whoever, cant remember the season. Im sure someone can fill in the details.

Henrik Larsson vs Norwich, a pre-season friendly. Remember Henrys goal against United when he received the ball with his back to goal, flicked it up and slammed it into the top corner. Like that, if a little closer to goal.

Iwan Roberts v Crewe. Championship season. Fantastic team goal, the crewe fans behind the goal were applauding it. Bet he never hit one like it in his entire career.

Quite tough to remember many to be honest! So will look forward to other responses.

That was against Coventry in 2002-03, when he hit it from 35 yards into the top corner. That was sensational.

There''s been some very good goals, even this season so I''ll have to think about this one...

Norwich City 2, Coventry City 0, 15 March 2003

One of my favourites too.

One of Bobby Charlton''s for England in the World Cup Finals at Wembley in 1966 is hard to beat for me. Can''t quite remember who it was against - Portugal, Mexico....?

We were standing at one end, Bobby Charlton picked up the ball nor far over the halfway line and moved forward. He strode on and suddenly feinted left - the whole of one side of the opposition defence fell away to their right; a couple more strides, he feinted right and the other side of their defence fell completely away to their left. Suddenly a huge chasm appeared in thecentre of their defence; he took a couple more paces forward and blasted the ball just inside the goalpost from over 20 yards.                                                (And if you had the pleasure of seeing Bobby play you''d know that he had one of the biggest and exaggerated feints of all time.)

Y''know one thing about that goal was that only those of us stood at the two ends of Wembley stadium that day saw the true majesty of it as the TV and film coverage was apparently resticted to side on. I''m not sure that the journalists that were there - even to this day - realise the full brilliance of Bobby''s wonder goal.

Justin Fashanu against Liverpool. Simply the most spectacular goal ever scored at Carrow Road.

But for individual brilliance it''s hard to recall a better goal than Huckerbys 70 yard run and strike against Brum last season.

That Damien Francis volley against WBA, Prem season i think.Game was excellent. Same one where Kieran Richardson got hit by a pie! hilarious!About 2 or 3mins to go and it came out to Damo on the edge of area and he launched it on the volley. Went screaming and swerving into bottom corner.Stunning. On my way to canariesworld now to reminisce.

Steeno''s was probably the most enjoyable and best for me. Steen was great.

John Polston at home to Villa in 1992/93 was delightful also, but not a great goal by any standards.

Lappin, scored a cracker this season (I think) keeper off his line, Lappin was wide and showed he has a great left foot with a precise finish, if only he wasn''t so slow.

Safri''s against Newcastle also brilliant and vital at the time.

I''m sure Ashton or Earnshaw must have scored a few crackers, but none spring to mind. Any ideas?

I remember Ashton scoring a volleyed lob against Manchester City (the game we went 2-0 up but lost 3-2) that was outstanding.

Earnshaw scored a great volley at Cardiff in the last away match at Cardiff in 2005-06 but that doesn''t count for me as I wasn''t there to see it...

Ashton''s delightful chip over David James against Man City and Earnshaw''s overhead kick at Wolves last season.

I can remember a few beuatiful Carrow road Goals!

All the above mentioned were excellent. Mullers free kick vs rotherham about 4 years ago could be added.

Adrian Forbes Vs Blackburns was even better than hucks as he rode 3 tackles before flciking it over Tim Flowers...

I seem to remember Iwan Scoring on the volley from 20 yards out at Oakwell a decade ago too.... Check the video of the 98/99 season again....

One that stands out for me was Robert Flecks 20 yard volley against Millwall at the Old Den in 1988.

Last minute of the game, they''d battered us for the entire 2nd half, the Flecky won it with a beauty.

Made leaving the ground a bit scary though!!

Possibly my all-time favourite City goal was Ashton''s header from about 18 yards against ManYoo at CR. We had lost about 8 on the trot and hadn''t kept a clean sheet all season so nobody (not even City fans) expected us to get anything out of that match. Cross to the edge of the box, Ashton header, keeper''s top right-hand corner. Probably the best header I have ever seen... and oh how I celebrated it!

Safri''s v Newcastle was obviously unbelieveable too because we all suddenly had dreams of staying up until we conceded a late equaliser which put everyone on a downer before Saf thumped it in from 35 yards to give us hope again.

Happy, happy memories...

Norwich goals are quite a fe that spring to mind but particular highlights:

Saf v Newcastle - just pips Steeno''s effort v Cov

Rosario v Saints - think got Goal of the Season on BBC that year. Was sat directly in line with it and was a goal as soon as it left his foot.

Goss v Leeds at Elland Road - fantastic first time volley from a cross from Foxy but was also the end of a 30 or 40 pass move. Not often Leeds fans applaud an opposition goal.

Other NCFC efforts worthy of mention: O''Neills lob away at Tranmere (I think), Gossy''s volley for the last goal in front of the Kop, Bellamy''s effort from the touchline against Sheffield United, Iwans first at Crewe for the whole move, Philips at Selhust Park with the scissor kick.

Best England goal i''ve seen live was Gazza''s v Scotland at Wembley.

Favourite ever goal that Trevor Sinclair overhead kick for QPR into the top corner from about 25 yards. Amazing!

Ashton against Man City was a cracker, it was about at that moment that Delia hit the bottle and then we all know what happend after that

The one four days later too, Easter Monday, was televised  - Mulryne came off the bench with 10 to go - lacklustre game deadlocked at 0-0.Throw in on edge of the opposition (Stoke i think) penalty area - The defender headed it clear, but straight into the ref''s back (Barry someone(?)), dropped down and Mullers smashed it on the half volley into the top corner!! that was class.

Ched''s against Cardiff this year was pretty special.  My favourite was Robert Rosario''s 40 yard volley - goal of the season, I think.  Back to the "crap strikers who score great goals" thread...

I went to the madjeski that day too... the place went absolutely mental!

I can remember Adie Williams chasing Neal Barry 60 yards to remonstrate with him.... he escaped a yellow card too... it was Barrys fault for being in the way really...
