It's all gone quiet from the negative brigade

Recommended Posts

We''ve signed another player, oh the shame of it!!! and the moaners on this board have disapeared.

Yes, i know everyone has a life away from here, but the last week or two, the negative posts have been popping up every two minutes.

I''m not going to mention individuals.

But, negative posters...

Where are you ?

Come on, Lets Be Havin U

What do you think?

My opinion on the board hasnt changed one bit and by signing a bloke whos hardly set the scottish league, yes scottish league on fire is not going to change that. We have lost out on good signings in Sharp,Varney,Eastwood ect ect and sold our most valuable asset and signed Cureton [average in my opinion but his hearts in it] We''ve signed a pretty decent keeper hopefully and apart from a tweak here and there thats it. The Lappins,Ostembors fothersometing and Brelliers really dont set my heart beat racing. sorry to sound defeatist but.......

Im not going anywhere, i only just found out we signed someone who is supposed to be decent at scottish level-untried in our league-why would i suddenly change, im not 1st wizard mate.

None of the signings are proven big game players { cureton had 1 season last year and i hope he repeats it } but i hope they are all sucessful and hope the club is.

That doesnt change my opinion on the board who have got away with chase like antics for 3 years. Mr Chase was outed for the same things our current board are doing yet get away scott free.

I genuinely hope we have a good season and all the new signings are crackers but my thoughts on the board wont change. I cant forget or forgive them for the last 3 years.

lets hope they the signings pull it off, Grant wins manager of the year and with promotion we attract new investers, because with the current lot they will only let us down like last time.

Ive always been behind Grant and the team, but for some reason people like you misread { sometimes it seems on purpose } the fact that i dont like the board i dont want the team to succeed. Nothing would make me happier to win promotion, but it wouldnt suddenly make me Pro board or do a 2 faced u-turn like 1st wizard.

If anyone thinks i wanted us relegated when i campaigned against chase you really are niave. Ive always been behind the team-does not mean im behind those that run OUR club.

The signs are optimistic but we have to avoid going overboard - even good quality signings dont always settle in and the good ones sometimes take a while to adapt to a new formation/tactics - ask henry at arsenal.

But good progress so far - we need to keep the momentum going though.

I honestly think Fotheringham will turn out good. If he plays next to a destroyer like Brellier, he will only benefit. This will allow Fothers to use the ball in a playmaker type role, something he couldnt do when playing with Safri as he wanted to do it. (god am i resigned that Saffs is off??)

Im probably going to get laughed at but lets not write Fotheringham off.....i believe he will change a few opinions.

Watch this space.

Well theres hardly much to shout about is there?

A couple of players brought in on the cheap.

A £million (or close to)goalkeeper who ended up being 3rd choice at Celtic after they bought Mark Brown for £100,000 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle as number two.

Forgive me if i dont sound to excited!

Exactly Millo, like i said i dont have the answers to who we should sign and i to really hope the manager and players go on to great things but i just think poor PG has his hands tied in the transfer market and thats ultimately down to the board after there horrendous last few seasons. If we struggle this season and the players and manager really put a 110 percent into it you wont see me calling for the managers head or booing the team off the field, nope, i know were i will be and i have a funny feeling many will follow.

Good progress yes Zipper. I have faith in Grant, we may not have players queing up to come but things are looking better. He is undoubtedly working hard and it is showing. The Scottish links are clearly paying off, I just hope he is building a balanced squad, we still need more at the back and a creative midfielder in my opinion. Some would surely say that I am easily pleased, perhaps I want to be where City are concerned but I do feel excited about next season, particularly with all the money we should still have left. Hopefully there will be a few more quality players to come.

Very good post again MILLO... especially the bit about being behind Grant (as I am to myself to a large degree)...  He is unproven but I am sure that he has the makings of a good manager if only this board of ours give hime the chance.

Why is it that we are always accused of being against Grant when we are clearly not?

PGTA would do well to remember that we do have lives to lead outside of this forum.... which amazes me even more how anybody can accuse people that obviously care so much that they donate hours of their time raising certain issues surrounding NCFC of being an Ipswich fan.

As for the Brellier signing... Well I am HAPPY with it!

He may not be the next Patrick Viera... but I am sure that he will make a very useful addition to our squad on a FREE transfer...

George Burley is no fool and you do not get signed by the likes of him and Inter Milan if you are some mug... this guy obviously has bags of potential.

I do feel however that we need to get another central midfielder in... somebody that has a bit more about them with regards to their all-round game.

Somebody who can put their foot in but can also add the creativity and goal threat that our midfield has been so desperatly lacking over the last two years.

I would like to sell well done to Granty though in pulling this one off! [Y] [:D]

Whilst Celtic bought Brown, I don''t think that Marshall was at the club at that time? Apart from a day or two before he came on loan here till the end of the season.

You have to remember that so far the only fee we have paid is for Cureton (wish we had left him alone ). We are supposed to have a transfer kitty of around £5 million will we spend it or fill in with freebies ? lets wait and see but at the moment its the freebies arriving thick and fast , and who knows if they are any good or not.

Those who remember the glory days of the Walker and latter part of the Stringer eras will also remember that some so-called nobodies, or Tottenham rejects came here for peanuts and turned out to form the nucleus of arguably our finest side and took us to victory in Munich.

I refer of course to Messrs Culverhouse, Crook and Bowen, not forgetting John Polston. None of whom heralded, all of whom phenomenally successful for us. I reckon around 1000 appearances between them.

Recent big name failures? Jonsson and the captain of Denmark spring to mind.

For me its not the name its the ability and the way they are slotted into a team. That will come with practice and time together. Lets see how it goes, we have all demanded a revamp. Now we''re getting it we shouldn''t undermine it until its had a chance to prove itself.

A midfielder signed by Burley, who knows a good player, who was an integral part of the hearts team pushing for the top of the SPL and played in the Champions league.  I think some of you people really need to stop being so damn childish and negative, and stop judging players by their ''name'' and judging them poor if they dont cost millions of pounds.

Agreed, good post.

We have spent about 600k so far on several players of a calibre to add depth to our squad.  That is good management by Grant etc.  There is also the small matter of 3-5 million available, and several weeks before the season starts, so lets wait and see if this positive mood continues.  Some of the people on this board would moan if we signed John Terry.

I''m not questioning that you want the team to win millio. And, i can tell yours is a good heartfelt post rather than the neagative, waffle we''ve had on here recentley. I was just pointing out that today was the 1st day in a while, where there had been no negativity and wondered what people thought. 99% of us on here, all want the same thing, and lets hope we do get success. It isn''t time to go overboard with the praise, because as pointed out we havent made an amazing signing, but things are going in the right direction and there is reason to be positive.

Lets wait and see what happens over the next couple of months, fingers crossed!!

Some people are never happy, free transfer! there gonna be crap.

Im pretty happy with this signing, think its just what we needed.

What is annoying me is the indifference to signings of some people, as if being on a "free" means a player is rubbish.  There is a huge difference between a player who goes out of contract of his own will and leaves a club that wants to keep them (eg Brellier who was offered contracts at Hearts), to those who are just released through being poor (Thorne, MLJ).  The simple fact is that it is the way of things nowadays that a lot of very good players are available on a ''free'' - Michael Ballack is one that particularly springs to mind from last summer, there''s been Hreidarsson, Sibierski, Ben Haim, Bramble, Distin, Viduka and many more this season - are they all rubbish?

One slightly misguided thing is that people seem to think such a transfer is free - it isn''t, it means you aren''t paying a transfer fee to another club but as far as I am aware it can often be that the player gets a pretty decent signing on fee instead, so those thinking we have all our transfer funds intact other than the fee we paid for Cureton are not actually correct, though of course most of it should be remaining.

I am by nature a positive fan and I am proud of my yellow and green welding goggles [8-|] through which I see our club in all its glory. But I am not getting carried away yet and would like to remind everyone that most people were more than happy with Colin, MLJ, Hoooooze, Jarrett, Marney and Thorne until they saw them play.

I am quietly hopeful though [;)]

Precisely. Those that - legitimately - criticise players before

they''ve played by the same token are premature in their positive

assessnments of new players.

I hadn''t even heard of Breilleur and Shakira before last week (and

its inappropriate to judge them on youtube ''highlights'') and some have

slotted them into their line-ups (and selling Safri) already to make

way for them.

The jury is still out on Grant''s purchases during last season let alone the new ones.

Can I just remind certain posters, especially Millo, that we paid just £60.000 for Svensson and his stunning goals helped us reached the Premier.

I can only suggest that Wittle and Millio were cheering this cheap signing on back them, or was he just lucky too?.

Proof, if ever it was needed, that you don''t have to spend a fortune!.[:|]
