Hopefully we will be buying a left back during the summer 😬

Harrison Burrows would be a fantastic one to go for.

Wasn't there some talk of Toffolo earlier this week ?  Or did I imagine that ?

Extending Sorenson and Lima going are the only surprises to me. I know there was talk that Lima was lightweight, but I thought they was noise from the club that we were keen on signing him full time.

One good season from Gibson. £8m fee and £40k a week for a very average Championship defender.

At the time I thought it was a bargain.. In hindsight however prehaps we should have listened to Burnley when they decided to not play him as they clearly saw something we did not.

Makes sense to extend Sorensen's contract. The rest I'm not too fussed about.

Please don't let us start with Duffy and Hanley.

He was excellent in our promotion season, and given the money getting promoted got us and his role in it, it arguably justified the cost. But he never really recovered from a bruising EPL season and hasn't performed anywhere near the levels you should be getting from one of the league's best paid defenders.

Absolutely need to sign a CB. I'd love to see us try and steal Kipre from West Brom as he is out of contract, but I'm not sure he'd leave them for us.

In fairness to Gibson, he was looking decent value until that ugly injury and then I think his confidence got obliterated by the PL season we had. I get the feeling he's a reasonably sensitive guy and things haven't been good for a long time.

No harm in saying he's lost a step, and I wish him well in the future.

I don't think he's been bad value tbh, especially if you compare him to Duffy (and his wages) and wasting a year's salary on Batth.

To be fair it does feel like our defence has been a cursed position for quite a few seasons now. Other than a few standouts like Aarons, Hanley and Omobamidele at times it does feel like we have never been able to have a ceritfied settled backline and one that feels safe and secure.

Made sense to take the option on Lungi as his versatility always means he can fill a hole well in a functioning team. Not too unhappy with those being told to leave. They did their time with us, were thoroughly commendable pros for the most part, but it's time to move on.

Yeah. In truth we've not had much luck with center backs in recent years have we? Zimmermann arguably the best?

Gibson, Batth, Duffy, Kabak and Hanley (although you could make an argument for Hanley being ok) all have been rather disappointing from the Webber era.

Therein lies the problem. Easy to get rid of Gibson as no contract to pay up but I would much rather have kept him on a 12 month deal (if he would have taken that) than the overrated Hanley and the other guy who should be shown the door PDQ! Gibson is a very good professional. Yes he always has a gaffe in  him but so do the other clowns.

I would not be surprised to see the young lad who has been on loan at Accrington given a shot. Brad Hills is it? Said to have really impressed.

I suspect he will have many suitors.

Its still Dads Army with Barnes and Duffy still stealing a salary.  No chance of buying out their contracts.  Hanley also a veteran.  Need a proper defence youngsters just not good enough to fill the rota.

Yeah, and Adegboyega at Walsall had a good, albeit shorter, stint.

Definitely. I believe they all had good reports. Will be very disappointed if at least one (if not two) are in the first team squad for next season). Need to acquire a 'mid 20s' Championship defender who can actually 'defend'!

If they're good enough, they're old enough. Not to mention we're sleeping on Warner and Tomkinson, who've had some experience with us. Omo came through on the rails and never looked back, so I would expect at least one of this set to do so.

Why? Would be expensive but if we're serious about a reset then get rid. If they're told they are not part of the plans for next season they may find themselves another club.

Barnes and Duffy on over £30k a week allegedly, could that be true?

Decision to loan Lima rather than buy looks sound if we are rejecting him.   No surprise on the decisions so far tbh.

Spot on. I’d say Zimbo and Hanley have been decent and don’t forget Godfrey. But it’s an area we really need to strengthen now and have done for a number of seasons.

We might have to pay their salary but that doesn't and shouldn't mean they walk into the team.

In fairness I didn't include Godfrey and Andy Omo as both were not purchased by Webber.

We’ve got Hills, Warner, Tomkinson and Adegboyega to come back, all cb’s.   None were out at anything like Champs level, but Hills did win Accrington’s PoTS award - hopefully one or more will come through for next season.
