I don't get how it's fun to carry a knife and do this at football

They aren't even at the football yet.

I think those that carry knives say they do for protection / self defence, because others carry them.

That doesn't justify it in my book though.

You don't stab someone returning to their hotel in self defence

Agreed - my post was in reply to why do people carry knives - generally, not this incident specifically which we know no details about currently.

The bloke and a couple of mates were walking to their hotel about midnight and got chased by 8 masked blokes who had knives/ a machete. The chap has recently had knee replacements and fell whilst trying to run off, he was stabbed 3 times. Clearly they were targeted for being English football fans, no belongings were stolen.

All of the above taken from Twitter.

As they scousers always point out to us, they are not English, they have their own territory.

Maybe it's time for them to stop using British money then? After all, they are the independent socialist peoples republic of Liverpool.

Wonder who the supreme leader would be?

King Kenny surely? Not that that fits with the republic part, but scouse rules!

So in 2023, a bloke from Newcastle gets stabbed by AC Milan ultras, and somehow it's the fault of everybody living in a city in the North West of England in 1985?

Er...

The Pinkun forum still drinking that Maggie Thatcher cool aid. Scousers are the friendliest people I’ve come across in the entire country - not that it is in any way relevant in this situation.

Er...

I struggle to see why some of our supporters, well Pinkun contributors, are seeing the funny side of this.

It was terrible when we went there in 1993, if the fans weren't trying to attack us the police in the stadium were.

Decided I never wanted to go back there ever again.

It is also the case this went on before the Heysel disaster in 85. At the European Cup Final in Rome in 84 Liverpool fans were attacked and stabbed before and after their victory over Roma. It seems to be a very Italian problem not a Scouse one

It does highlight the downside to getting into the big European competitions. Sometimes mediocrity can look quite attractive. :classic_sad:
