It's certainly what started our interest in Buendia.

Player X scored Y goals at club Z is about as basic as stats get - that isn't what the analysts will be looking at. For Pukki, I believe part of it was his shooting accuracy in the box, especially first time shots. Apparently, it was felt that our system produced a decent number of similar chances. If the ‘three reasons’ Roberts isn’t playing are anywhere near right, then we have to question our summer signings - signing anyone who is not good enough and doesn’t fit our system simply shouldn’t have been signed. Period. I hope the lad gets his chance and plays well when he does - but in order for that DF needs to give him that chance. I think the players who did what they did last season, and who were all rewarded with new contracts and who had our complete trust and faith after the first 5 games, deserve to be given a fighting chance to show that they can compete at this level. Likewise the coaches, including the Head Coach who until 6 matches ago was one of the best in the world, apparently. 27 games left, we need to win 11. It would be nice to start on Friday, but plenty of time yet. If Roberts is ready, he'll play.
king canary 7,606 Posted November 4, 2019 This idea of us becoming a good place for youngsters from the top clubs to come on loan isn't really paying dividends since Gunn. Edwards and now Roberts both arrived with big reputations but can't even make the bench let alone the first team.

If players aren't playing it usually means they aren't doing it in training. It is a shame because I thought he looked excellent in the preseason but he's clearly not impressing Farke in some way. Always a caveat in that someone like Holt was deemed an awful trainer but always delivered on the pitch.

I always wonder what is meant by awful trainer with Holt. Does it just mean he got gassed quite easily or does it mean he didn't put in the effort? I get the sense Farke has very exact standards when it comes to training, hence his willingness to call out Watkins/Murphy in the past for a lack of effort. People might question that but he's the boss and he's earned some faith in his judgement on players.

Probably means he just wasn't very good, maybe hardly ever scored in practice matches, didn't look technically good, had to work hard just to get fit etc etc. Some people are like that - they need the adrenilin of real situations to actually come alive. When reading his book it kind of felt like a suggestion that he knew he came back from pre-season a little overweight, needed matches to get himself fit, and didn't necessarily enjoy the day-to-day training and gym stuff. I do think Farke is very particular on training and probably the attitude to training too. Probably partially a bit of a cultural thing - the level of training is quite intense too and I remember Jerome saying the younger players loved it but for him it was too much at that stage of his career. Maybe Roberts, not being in or around a first team for a little while had been taking it a bit easy and struggling a bit with us? Farke did mention that Roberts wasn't fit enough on a couple of occasions.
jaberry2 550 Posted November 4, 2019 Surely the time has come to terminate his loan agreement, if he is indeed not up to scratch. That way at least we can get a new addition in asap to help out the first team.

I simply refuse to believe that his training performances are that bad that he is not worthy of a single decent run out, even off the bench? We have been bringing Dennis Srbenny on in the premier league for goodness sake and all 3 of those who regularly play in those attacking midfield roles have been underwhelming of late. Farke really deserves to be called into question on this unless he can provide some sort of explanation for it.

He doesn't have to answer to you - he proved you wrong over an entire season last time and now you want Farke 'called into question' over an individual loan signing.

ZLF 274 Posted November 4, 2019 Roberts is a quandary. He sparkled at Celtic when he scored 15 in 43 (29 starts) across 2 seasons when celtic were runaway winners of the league. However he has struggled to repeat that form since the 2016-17 season. Since then he has made 44 appearances (just 13 starts - but doubling the matches he has ever played in) in just over 2 seasons and scored just 1 goal - v Anderlecht in the champions league in 2017 for Celtic, his last league goal was May 2017 - 6 months earlier. He does not appear to have been the same player since his hamstring injury just after that last goal. Farke has played youth when they are good enough. Roberts recent history suggest he is struggling to kick on, from his precocious youth when stepping up in class of opponent. Most of his appearances have been from the bench, worryingly more so since his injury. Just because he isnt making the bench does not mean he is better than those that are. Questioning one decision does not mean you don't support the coach. He needs to be asked why he is snubbing this player and to provide fans with an explanation. Im assuming he hasnt produced during under 23's matches to even warrant a place on the bench at times. Why sit their and wait for a player who may never get into first team XI waste a valuable loan slot. Im just guessing Farke just doesnt rate him.
