There''s nothing to stop them making him an executive director and paying him a salary. In fact you''ll not know until the accounts covering this period are published. Maybe his photography business is not taking off as planned.
  2. It''s good to see one of our "surplus to requirements" being turned into cash and to hear rumours that Wednesday are now keen on a permanent deal for Hooper. It is the incoming activity that really concerns me and especially the seemingly endless problem at centre back. With Ivo Pinto presumably pencilled in at right-back, my worst nightmare sees our hapless skipper being moved back to the centre. This occurred on Saturday against Man. C. Hopefully it was a one-off use of three at the back for the specific game but Martin has succeeded in the past in convincing successive managers that he is capable of something that he patently isn''t. We desperately need to strengthen our starting X1 immediately in this position as both Martin and Bassong are consistent only in that they are total liabilities.
  3. On this and the many other "John Ruddy" threads, numerous posters have stated what a big call it was for AN to stand him down when he did. I don''t get that at all. His form, on the back of one of the biggest confidence fails I have seen, was making him a serious liability every game. So dropping him when he did was, for me, one of the easiest decisions AN has had to make. Over the years it has often happened that top goalkeepers have suffered periods of poor form and have needed a spell out to restore confidence (Hart has been mentioned as a recent example). Let''s hope it eventually works this way for JR.
  4. For a long time LDC spent much of his week defending the appointment and continuing perseverance with Neil Adams (as manager). Since those days he regularly treats us to his insightful footballing opinions on here. That he has to ask who the chants were coming from and what they meant, says so much about him. His subsequent post saying that he is in no way ashamed at needing to ask, well that will confirm your earlier thoughts were spot on.
  5. The owners of a club should be above selling it up as having a political direction but unfortunately our owners can''t help themselves in this respect. From the appointment of the left-supporting, non-participating Stephen Fry, to the joining the Labour national campaigning team just a week before the play-off final, DS clearly fails to understand her responsibilities. And now we get Balls as Chairman. Norwich Labour party has somehow managed to get itself saddled with a left-wing extremist MP, I sincerely hope he doesn''t start to spout the "I''ve supported City since my schooldays" line - if he does, Delia will be in like a shot. It is not the Labour party to which I object, it is the overt display of political linkage. I did not like Chases political involvement as a Tory county councillor but in fairness to him, he did not smear it all over the football club.
  6. For the second consecutive home game, we have been the victim of decisions from a linesman (RA) who has intervened when he has been in a far worse position to judge than the referee. In the CP game, the referee immediately signalled the "goal", cancelling his decision after taking a message from his assistant, a guy who was three times his own distance from the action. Today, and I am not saying the decision was right or wrong, but it came from a guy who was behind our player and would have been unable to say whether it was chest or arm. Again, the referee was well placed to see what the ball hit, allowed play to continue until flag-happy started waving madly. I really feel these assistants should stick to their "out of play" and off-side decisions except when they see something blatant that the main man may have missed. For me, that would not include guesses about which they haven''t any real idea. Somebody said on the way out of the ground that the Jerome/CP decision and today''s Brady handball were both made by the same linesman. I really do hope they were just trying to wind me up.
  7. A couple of comments on Ricardo''s excellent report. Re: the disallowed goal, I would think that an overhead kick is perfectly allowable unless there are heads in the vicinity of the kick. I was not near enough to see which was the case. As for the second Palace goal, I did not see it as an overhit corner. The Palace player was halfway through a 40yard untracked run before the corner was struck and I would say it was a deliberate routine which had been practised.
  8. Having trouble here getting my head around James, the original poster on this thread. On one hand, he feels sufficiently informed and knowledgeable to write "pieces" and post them for others to read, also to publish his post-match thoughts. Whilst at the same time, he demonstrates not having the first idea about reality by expressing total surprise at RVW''s omission from the squad today. No Lafferty either, must have picked up niggle.
  9. Agree with the OP, I fear that the step up in levels is not achievable by everyone. Despite the season he had last year when he got POS (inc. my vote), I do recall that I felt he was out of his depth the year before. His performance today was very reminiscent of one specific game last season when he failed to show up - the second leg of the play-off semi against Hoofball Town.
  10. I guess my disappointment at the window so far is largely down to the fact that few people are calling for a major strengthening at CB. Upon promotion, there was almost unanimity in the need to sort this area out. Not to get cover, to get starting line-up players. Not only has nothing happened, listening to reports, nothing is likely to happen. I accept that Alex Neil has already demonstrated a talent for motivating and getting the best out of people but making a premier league centre back out of Russell Martin will be a task too great. A bit more of a chance with Seb but I do remember how he came to the end of the road the last time we were in the Prem.
  11. My use of lesser was to distinguish them from the top half dozen or so but Herman is right in that a couple have wealthy owners. Others have had Premiership money but I would doubt if the likes of Stoke or West Brom would be more financially sound than City. There also appears to be a fundamental difference of opinion between what supporters feel is needed. For me, we need a number of players to come in to strengthen the 1st X1. Purple is satisfied with the fact that we have brought in covering players for various positions (goalkeeper, fullback). I am concerned that we have a number of players who have already demonstrated that they are not of Premier league standard. They dropped down to Championship level and did us proud but there should be no place for sentimentality.
  12. Dean Coneys Boots has got it right in pretty much all that he''s said and to me, there is nothing disloyal or doom mongering about facing up to and discussing these realities. Yes, there are a few weeks left in the window but we will be a number of winnable games into the season, not to mention the further games that will have passed by whilst any new recruits are integrated. Obviously, it is not just a case of getting bodies in to bolster numbers, we''ve done that one before. But getting to the panic end of the window doesn''t make ay sense to me. The argument that we are not an attractive destination and cannot compete with the financial elite of the league is true, up to a point.but it hasn''t prevented most other "lesser" clubs from strengthening their squads. We really need a major boost and soon, especially having suffered such a badly-timed injury on Saturday.
  13. Samwam27 wrote the following post at 03/08/2015 10:25 PM: Knowing NCFC don''t disclose any dealings and have expressed interest in VVD, do you think there''s any chance we might have struck a deal with Celtic, aggreeing to allow and announce it after Celtic''s qualifiers? If we have, Southampton don''t appear to have heard about it.
  14. I don''t understand why the unexpired length of a players contract has any bearing on the likelihood of his being sold. It may influence the price paid but if they are sought by a Premier league club, they will more than likely be off.
  15. What is Grabban''s likely suspension from this and what is his availability for the final 1 to 4 games?
  16. Ahead of games, I always fear the worst while desperately hoping for the best and certainly the latter has been coming through recently. I was delighted when the position was reached a while ago where it looked like our destiny was firmly in our own hands - keep winning and nobody would catch us. However, with Watford also on a good run, the GD advantage we had a few games back has all but been cancelled out. So far from these wins settling my nerves, I am now concerned that we are not winning big enough. I know I should stop worrying and rejoice in the fact that AN has transformed the spirit at the club which has put us well in line for the autos when the play-offs were considered our only realistic chance of promotion.
  17. When it was announced near the end of the game the screens were showing 26,993 but the guy making the PA announcement read out 26,943. So that narrows it down to just 50 as the discrepancy.
  18. BJ got my POTS vote a couple of weeks ago and his contribution this weekend has done nothing but to confirm that I had got that right. Despite being fully appreciative of what he has done for us this season, it was disappointing to see him behave as he did today. He plays the game fully aware of his situation on the yellow card tally and will also now how important he is to our seasons success. Today''s yellow should in no way be likened to Tetty taking a deliberate card to get his ban served. I can''t imagine what his thought process was during the incident, maybe an appeal on the basis that he had received a bang on the head and was not thinking straight! Anyway, congrats on another great contribution otherwise and look forward to having him back for Middlesborough.
  19. Their record this season does suggest they are not the easiest to break down defensively. They have won 32 points away (only 22 at home) and in the whole division, only Middlesborough have conceded fewer goals. Let''s hope for an early goal to open them up a bit and for others to consolidate. OTCB.

  21. Have we got any (over-agers) playing their way back from injuries?
  22. Don''t think he was at Carrow Road as a guest of Forest, not when the Forest manager said he had been in Norwich for talks with the Canaries.
