1. To be fair, the commentary team have to talk about something - and there sure wasn''t much else going on on-pitch to discuss! Except for some of the self-deprecating chants, it was probably the most entertaining thing to occur all afternoon.
2. Madders grabbed the ball when it was their throw-in. There was a bit of argy-bargy as the Burton chap took the ball back from him, ending with James receiving a little pat on the backside as he walked away. It didn''t seem to go down very well. The two of them were constantly at each other after that, with some more shoving after the final whistle. All a lot of fuss over nothing, really. You see far worse just about every game. A fine would be laughable. On a somewhat related note though, Madders seemed genuinely wound-up from the moment he came on. Hopefully he disagreed with the idea that he needed ''a rest''.
3.
Unless, of course, you''re Burton Albion in which case you can have terracing at both ends and all down one side!
But think of all the thousands that have died at Burton over the last two years. Shocking. The law is the issue. Standing was never the problem with the lack of safety at football - it was the combination of standing and ramming in as many people as possible. Since grounds now have far tighter limits (1 seat per person, and all that) standing would be fine. It''s an idiotic rule, but when pushed the club have no option other than to enforce it. It''ll all die down again in a few weeks - happens on and off in the Snakepit all the time.
4. Can''t begin to fathom how anyone can choose Angus over his Dad, potential or not. His Dad''s an absolute legend, as a City keeper.
5. Except you have made it up. I sit in the Snakepit, and there''s not been a single person removed all season. One man was removed from the lower Barclay, block near us, for persistent standing during the last game... Though i''m not sure how that justifies ''in large numbers''.
6. The Tranmere game was just incredible. I couldn''t believe what i was watching. There''s a home game against Bradford, late 90s or early 00s, where we lost 4-1 that sticks in my mind for dreadful officiating. If i remember correctly, we had a man sent off for very little, 2 penalties given against us for blatant dives, 2 goals ruled out for offside when they clearly(!) weren''t, and a stonewall penalty not given. Carrow Road was on the brink of a riot. Or maybe my memory fails me!
7. Grant and Roeder were both dreadful managers. I wanted to like Grant, but he lost me completely when he blamed the fans for the defeat at home to Hull. His signings were dreadful, though Lappin eventually came good and played a large part in the League 1 season and what followed. But Grant has the added benefit over Roeder of actually looking like he gave a damn when he played for us; had the sense to walk away when he clearly was out of his depth; and for all his failings, didn''t come across as a mean-spirited moron like Glenn did. I''m amazed anyone can or would defend Roeder. This is the man who thought Russell would be a decent striker, who set us up in a 4-6-0 formation away at Stoke, who thought Matty Pattison would be a better starting choice than Huckerby, who sold our only decent centre-back to fund the loan on Sibierski, who promoted that stupid 1 winger system that teams took all of 5 minutes to work out and counter, who signed Lupoli and then complained about him being ''too small'' (why sign him then, you bloody idiot?!), and didn''t allow us a send-off for one of our greatest ever players. The man was an idiot, regardless of what he achieved when he first took over.
8. Tettey and Trybull shielding the back four. Klose back in, and looking better than last season. Stieperman looking a good fit on the left. Some combination of all those things, and a general increase in desire and fight on the pitch. It''s great to see!
9. Not quite booing, but the final home game of the League 1 relegation season, prior to Charlton away, was an odd Carrow Road experience. If i remember correctly - Monday night, on Sky, my birthday. We went 1-0 down, and the place turned eerily quiet as realisation hit that we were actually going down. Just a stunned silence. Even the Reading fans seemed subdued. That''s how i remember it, anyway!
10. If you think back over the last 20 or so years of being a City fan, and genuinely believe any of Whittaker, Turner or Bassong belong to be classed as ''Hope you never see the like again'', then you either weren''t paying much attention, or have a very short memory. Get over your entitlement. They''ve all played a role in a very good era for the club. Best of luck to ''em all.
11. There''s always been a lot of nonsense talked about Jonno''s quality in the Premier, and it''s still going on. Too many short memories. In our first PL season with Lambert he was excellent. I remember seeing posts on hear, hearing calls on Radio Norfolk, and overhearing conversations around the ground that he ''wasn''t far off the England squad''. He was excellent - particularly around December time. Like many of our players he went downhill when Lambert left and Hughton took over, then found the best form of his career under Alex Neil. There''s absolutely no reason he couldn''t have performed for us in the Premier again. But one average game against Palace on the opening day, and everyone seemed to right him off. I didn''t understand it at the time, and still don''t. We''ve hardly improved without him, have we?
12. Your feeling would be an incorrect one, my friend. Feel free to believe what you like, however - It doesn''t really bother me either way.Just playing devil''s advocate, mostly. But i''ve heard far more outlandish suggestions from City fans than Dorrans on the left, and we''ve all seen managers make stranger team selections. Some worked, some didn''t.Let''s be honest, short of it being tried, we''ll never know, will we? But it strikes me that LDC is free to make whatever suggestions he likes, on a public football forum.
13. If Bradley Johnson can have such a surprising effect on the left of midfield, why can''t Dorrans? I doubt anyone saw the latter coming, after he''d spent so long in central mid, with questionable success.I wouldn''t like to see us first try it in a competitive game, mind you.
14. It''ll be a sad, sad day when we leave Carrow Road. The modern, soulless bowls we get these days might look lovely, but they''re not for me. Great for the occasional visit on away days, but for 20 or 23 games a season? No thank you.I hope it doesn''t happen for many a year.
15. No, not for me. Too much risk involved. For all their faults, we know what we get with Delia and MWJ, and i for one can live with that quite happily. We are what we are, and i love the club regardless.Besides, even when new investment works out, i wouldn''t like it. The thought of Norwich turning into the next Man City - Spending billions on superstars, expecting success every year, attracting millions of new ''fans'' amongst the glory hunters worldwide, attracting global media attention, building a fancy new soulless stadium, etc - turns my blood cold. It wouldn''t be the Norwich i know and love.Give me the occasional 3-0 defeat at the likes of a mediocre Birmingham, any day. Without days like that, you just don''t appreciate the good times properly.
16. Remember the season Reading walked the league, with a record points tally and 99 goals? They lost their first game of the season 1-0 at home to Plymouth - one of the relegation favourites - and were dire. They then went unbeaten until February.I really wouldn''t get too excited, either by us or our rivals, just yet, people.
17. Regarding Hillsborough, can someone help with a genuine question?I feel before i ask i should state that this is indeed a genuine question, and something that despite trawling the internet for, i''ve struggled to find an adequate explanation for. Hence why i''m turning to the esteemed posters of the Pinkun forum for help. I hope i''m not starting anything that could be considered inflammatory - honestly this is a genuine inquiry born of my own ignorance.I''m too young to remember Hillsborough well, and most of the early discussion of it passed me by. Yet i''ve come across many online discussions and heard many a person say to me that despite all the police mistakes and dodgy behaviour, there was undoubtedly a large number of ticketless fans at the game in the Liverpool section.Counter to that, i''ve heard many times that the ticketless fans issue is a myth. I was hoping that today''s report would clarify this one, though from my perusal of the reports on it in the media, that''s seemingly not the case.Is it a case of the ticketless fans issue has already been demonstrated to be false and i''ve somehow missed it amongst all the tribal bleatings of the internet? Or did the inquiry merely decide that despite ticketless fans, they didn''t contribute to the horrible events of that day? Thanks.
18. And once again, you''re wrong. My assertions are based on what happened on the pitch for the first 89 minutes of the match. Yours are based on your imagination.I know which has more weight and worth behind it.
19. Except, that''s not your point, is it? Your point is to whinge and moan, as so many on this forum love to do, even when it''s not justified. Was Ranieri a ''master'' of substitutions when presiding over Greece''s debacle in the Euro qualifying groups? Or even a fortnight ago, when his team let a lead slip away at Arsenal? No, evidently not. But today he got it right, with the aid of a stroke of luck in the form of the tiniest of touches from Vardy and a small switch off at the back.Alex has proven he can change a game with a substitution. See Vadis being brought off the bench to change the game earlier in the season against Southampton or Everton, or whoever it was. Did you sing his praises after that one, i wonder?Yesterday, however, did not call for a substitution to be made. Jerome was playing well, winning plenty in the air against Huth and Morgan, and his pace was causing all sorts of problems for their slow centre-back pairing. To claim that removing him from the pitch would''ve necessarily made us more likely to score is nothing more than ignorance and guess work.
20. Let''s disregard the opinions of the usual whingers for a moment, and focus on the actual traveling away supporters. The team got a resounding applause at the end of the game, and despite the raucous Leicester celebrations, the loudest cheer as the teams trudged off was that of ''Yellows!''The team did well today, and the supporters who actual bothered going showed their appreciation of that.Play like that every game, and we''ll be fine. We won''t be playing sides as good as Leicester, or with Leicester''s fighting spirit and application, every week, and so we''ll pick up plenty of points. The bigger issue is IF we can keep that level of perfomance up every week....
21. Why on earth would Alex have changed things with substitutions earlier?! We were playing well, and the goal came out of nothing. We looked the more likely side to score in the preceding ten or fifteen minutes... Arguably before that, too.Imagine he''d changed it around, and we''d still gone on to lose? We''d have been subjected to the same old rubbish we''ve been hearing from the Pinkun and Canary Call all season long - he ''tinkers'' too much. He''s a young manager, still learning, and managing a team with the lowest budget in the division. What on earth were some of you people expecting from this season, other than relegation struggle?!
22. Their transfer embargo was lifted at the beginning of December.
23. Sorry, that should read - ''lucky to head home with a point from our only meaningful shot on target''.
24. I usually stay out of the Hughton debates (or all debates, for that matter) but i''m afraid hearing Palace away under Hughton described as an ''attacking performance'' means i have to break my own rule. What a load of utter drivel.I''m not sure what game you were watching on a stream that day, Lakey, but it sure wasn''t the same game that 2,000 other City fans and i saw at Selhurst. It was dire, and we were lucky to head home with a point from our only shot on target. You make some valid points at times. Don''t ruin it by spouting utter rubbish in an effort to reinforce your points.
25.
May have missed something here, but wisdom and mbokani on loan, and now Jarvis thought it was only two?
Mbokani doesn''t count in the limit due to being an overseas transfer.
