1.
I think so Jimmy, Martin showing why he''s a RB, had a good game today
Sorry Miggins 2 of Brightons goals came from down Martins side today and the 2nd especially was down to Martins constant inability to stop crosses or close players down. He was helped out massively my Redmond on numerous occasions who despite being much slighter of frame showed Martin how to tackle time and time again. As said in another thread earlier today Martin is much better going forward than he is defending, backed up by his fantastic goal, but defensively he is one of the main reasons we can''t keep a clean sheet against very average sides whether at RB or CB
2. The most concerning thing here and why it points firmly to the fact that sadly Adams is totally out of his depth is that he had 2 weeks since the last game to put the obvious short comings and failures of recent performance right. Yet we continue to get incomprehensible selections, formation and a team that doesn''t seem to know what it''s doing. There are a lot of things wrong at the moment a lot of them caused by the inexperience of the manager. Phelan may help - let''s hope so but also lets not forget Adams was a coach prior to being given the chance to become the manager of our team as was Phelan - we need someone with tactical knowledge and abilities to motivate and organise a team, pick and change a team depending on the opposition, someone that the players respect - these are different skills to coaching so although the appointment of Mike P is a massive step in the right direction and will hopefully bring some of those other qualities it is still no substitute for those other things that''s only an experienced manager can bring. Sadly it appears adams doesn''t have these qualities yet, and his abilities as a coach can be questioned aswell.
3. Absolute no brainer for most other than Adams. you maybe could justify grabban if his work rate was good and was adding to the team in other ways than goals but it isn''t and he doesn''t.
4. Nancy the lady on there said they have played much worse than this is the past, so bad she had to turn the radio off !!!! Sums it up really 99% of the people that actually attend the games in person know how badly we are playing and how disorganised and tactically inept our performances and team selections have become
5. Showed exactly why he should be starting week in week out. Clinical finish from a proven goal scorer. How Grabban gets to start beggars belief.....
6. Sorry Parma, don''t agree with analysis at all, though of course you are just as entitled to your opinion as me. In my view Russell Martin is poor at centre back and very average at right back and not a leader on the pitch which your captain should be. Positionally at both centre back and right back he goes ''wandering'' in his desire to get forward leaving massive holes for the other defenders to try and fill, and with Turner being so slow generally leads to us being caught out by swift counter attacks. In addition he physically isn''t big or strong enough to play at centre back being out jumped and out muscled at set pieces regularly. In my opinion he tends to give the attacker too much space by standing off allowing them to basically do what they want, cross, shoot, pass. 90% of his passes are backwards or sidewards generally putting the player he passes to under pressure. As a ''defender'' he is actually eye catching going forwards, which in turn causes a lot of the problems mentioned above, but call me old fashioned but I prefer my defenders to be able defend first and foremost, anything else is a bonus. we haven''t had a decent right back since Kyle Naughton was here on loan and is an area we definately need to strengthen in the transfer window, and when Bennett gets fit he would definately be my preference to partner Turner at centre back and Cuellar, Miguel, or Hooiveld should be above Martin for that second CB position in my view. Appreciate this comes across as abit of a player assassination totally at the other end of the spectrum from your RM love in and as a person Russell seems a decent enough bloke but in my view there are definately better options within our squad - definately at centre back.. I sure the Russell Martin fan club will slate me for this post but the game is about opinions you have posted yours I have posted mine...
7. Please god I hope not. Yes took us up and managed us in the Premiership years ago but also took us down, brought terrible players on relegation and hung on far too long before he finally left and hasn''t gone on to do anything significant since.... Just because he has got an association with Norwich doesn''t mean he is the right man for the job...we are a club with significant resources and should be looking at the BEST man for the job...and that isn''t Nigel Worthington...
8. Eddie Howe David Moyes Mick McCarthy Tony Pulis Not; Zola, Sherwood, Mackay, Clarke I actually like the idea of Culverhouse and/or Phelan in some sort of coaching capacity but not number one
9. Although Grant did finally come to that conclusion, he made sure we were nearly as good as relegated before he did and should have had the decision taken out of his hands way before that....I.e before he was appointed in the first place...
10.
Yes a team spirit and an understanding of your place in a team unit is essential to a great side. Now - who is responsible for generating that? Manager and captain in my view
Absolutely agree Zipper. Many questioned the appointment of an inexperienced manager and are understandably now venting their anger after the results, performances and team selection we have been getting. However only a handful questioned the appointment of Martin as captain, many thinking there was no other choice...for me the captain is generally ( not always ) is a leader on the pitch - Russell Martin nice chap I''m sure he is has never been or will ever be a leader on the pitch (aka Holty) someone who leads from the front, ups there game when the chips are down, lifts the crowd and therefore the rest of the team to perform better and raise their game. Sorry Russell you are no leader....
11. It was a totally unnecessary risk appointing a novice manager for a club coming down from the premiership with the resources at its disposal. There is of course no guarantee a more expensive/ experienced manager would be fairing any better, but obviously your chances are greatly increased ( look at the impact Lennon has had at Bolton, and Pulis at Palace last year). You have to question the ambition of the board in the appointment.
12. Why isn''t Hooper being given a start ?? Grabban certainly didn''t deserve to be in starting 11. Very strange selections again, clearly showing Adams doesn''t know his best starting 11 and formation - what are they doing in training ?? I''m afraid his inexperience is showing badly at the moment and as an unproven manager will the players believe in him ??
13. What total and utter garbage ! Yeah of course I want him to fail so Norwich do well or even worse get relegated..or go into another managerial merry go round with any successor no guarantee of anything better...just so it made the fact that I was underwhelmed by his appointment justifiable - sorry you are mixing me up with someone clearly shallow like yourself. If there was one prophecy I would like predict it would involve a blunt instrument and part of your anatomy....
14. I didn''t say they had done well or that they were any better. I said the list was uninspiring and of that uninspiring list Adams was bottom. Well if there are those that want him to fail because they will feel some sort of self gratification then shame on them - they are no fan in my book. I still hold true though those that feel that way are in the minority - those that will be unsurprised if he fails will be a much bigger proportion - it still does not mean they want him to.
15. If you cast your minds back to before Adams was appointed their was a survey of the potential candidates at the time I can''t remember who exactly was on the list but it included Lennon, Mackay, Zola, etc and Adams. Not a particularly inspiring list at all but the result of the poll had Adams rock bottom with about 5% When he was appointed there was a massive underwhelming feeling by the majority and therefore to win over this majority view was always going to be difficult for him - not saying he still can''t but results and performance as we have been getting do just reinforce the reasons (justified or not) why people didn''t want him in the first place. Wanting him to fail is something totally different - in my book anyway - I''m sure no NCFC supporter wants him to fail as ultimately his failure is our clubs failure something I would hope none of us want...
16. Poor centre back, slightly better but still poor RB, and a rubbish leader on the pitch...but does a good interview and talks a great game !!!
17. Although I don''t agree with a lot of the unnecessary follow up comments the actual initial point made is a valid one. We do have the best squad in the league and despite what gets trotted out by the Manager and certain players ( come on down the worse of them all Russell Martin) we are generally playing poorly compared to the players at our disposal. For a club just relegated from the Premierships with the squad and money at its disposal it was always going to be a risk appointing a novice manager and although I would love Adams to succeed it was an unnecessary risk for NCFC to take in my view. Although appointing an experienced manager is no guarantee of success the odds are far higher than appointing a rookie.
18. Well if he isn''t he should be. Widely understood by most as the best squad in the league and results and more worryingly performances (despite what he and some others on on this site think) very poor. Today''s team selection was strange to say the least. Buying 3 central defenders and persisting in playing a poor right back in that position. Paying c £3/4m for a midfielder to replace Fer and only starting him once ie today (but then replacing him at half time). Lots of questions are rightly starting to be asked of what is happening. I hope he has the answers but the performances in the the last couple of games makes me wonder.
19. Agree to a certain extent Making Plans. We do seem have tha ability to switch off and make a couple of mistakes a game and are getting punished for it at the moment. In my view their are a number of reasons for this; Martin playing at centre back, no decent right back, lack of pace, and the full backs more interested in getting forward leaving us exposed hen we regularly lose the ball etc That said it''s too simplistic to say it''s just the defence. Regardless of what the manager said last night, previous games, and the possession stats, we have more than enough attacking threat in the squad / team to score more than the teams we have been up against and we just aren''t creating enough decent goal scoring opportunities. For me this is the biggest area of concern. As said earlier in the thread and mentioned by a few others 1 up front and a 5 man midfield with Wes/Howson at the tip has to be given a go and then hopefully we will score more than enough to make the odd defensive slip up an irrelevance.
20. Haven''t heard it yet but if that''s the case am very worried if he feels that. The performance was laboured, lacked creativity and movement and most concerning the players didn''t seem to know what to do to change it. A poor performance against a very average side.
21. For me the issue is and has been most of the season centre midfield. Play Tetty and Johnson and we are too defensive and don''t have ability to play a decent passing game. Play Howson and Tetty or Johnson we just don''t control the midfield enough to impose our game. The issue is we have 4 first choice strikers and NA seems to think if he plays 2 of them we are going to score loads of goals - not if they don''t get the ball Neil ! Answer for me is playing a 5 man midfield with 2 of Tetty /Johnson / Vadis ( who looked decent when he came on today) in the defensive roles with Howson or Hoolahan in front with 2 wingers and one up front. Defensively agree with comment about feeling the need to play Martin at centre back when we 2 others in the squad (other than Turner) that should be in that position every day of the week before him. The lack of movement and apparent lack of ideas was very worrying today and despite the talk coming out of the manager and players after the last few games he has stuck with the same formation and just tweaked a few players here and there with the same ( if not worse ) performances/results.....appreciate he is learning his trade to some extent but for me needs to show abit more creativity in his formations and tactics rather than just putting a squad on the pitch and hope they do the business for him
22. Why drop turner ? Martin should not be allowed anywhere near centre back. I would give Miguel / Cuellar a run out alongside Turner. Midfield is to lightweight with Howson Redmond and Murphy in a 4. VOO unproven but would like to see him given a run out alongside Tetty. I would play 5 in midfield with Howson playing in an advanced midfield role behind either Jerome or Lafferty.
23. And Martin should never play centre back ( or right back for that matter !)
