  1. You''re absolutely right DD, but I think in the end its inevitable that the superclubs will go off into some sort of Euro league with all the money, and the remainder will be returned to the people as it were. And give me ''real'' football at CR over ''virtual'' TV football from Old Trafford any day.
  2. Hmm, I remember this with Brennan, and with other players before him. Worthy says ''its just a little niggle... more time... etc...'' and this goes on for weeks. Then he says ''missed lots of pre-season... not fit...'' and they don''t play. I want to see him playing and fit, but I guess its hard to predict how long it''ll take to ''get right''. Grrrr
  3. Primus is 30 going on 31. Malky and Flem are 32 going on 33. So why wouldn''t Primus still be up to it the year after next? There are plenty of good defenders going on into their thirties. Yes, we''d need some new players, but not all at once. Don''t forget we''ve got Shackell coming through as well.
  4. Well he is a Premier league manager now. And I bet he''s done so many interviews over the last few months that he''s getting more used to it. I''m even noticing the increase in profile on places like the BBC website (with a special section on our Malaysia tour for example), although its still way below what most Prem clubs get - e.g. no mention of Helveg on FiveLive when they went through all the transfer news from the Prem on Thursday as they only mentioned the ''big'' clubs!
  5. Surely it depends on the ranking/level of the side. Because aren''t Mulryne and McVeigh established international players who played in the (albeit qualifiers for) the last World Cup? The difference is just that NI is a very lowly nation in the football rankings?
  6. And there are other possibilities like Brennan at LB, Charlton at CB, McVeigh at RM (although this didn''t work very well last season). Yes, a couple more players (defender, right winger, striker) and we''ve got a good squad with some reasonable quality cover all over. Ama
  7. Yes, he didn''t fulfill his potential here: we saw flashes of it. He was quite important in our playoff season, and had a good start last season as well don''t forget - he scored 4 goals. But after getting injured (again) he never regained fitness. He''s just not a naturally fit player. I say good luck to him, after all we got more value from him than we did Emblen (not really his fault though). Ama
  8. Yes, unfashionable amongst the London media. As in, they''re not sure who or where we are. That''s why they had us down as relegation candidates last season, because we obviously couldn''t be that good if they hadn''t heard of us. But I see it as a positive thing, no hype, no expectation to succeed, so we can surprise a few people perhaps...! Ama
  9. Superb! I''m sure he will not be on massive wages as it would against everything Delia etc has said about not ruining the club. He''ll also have a relegation clause I bet, to make his wages drop and give him the option of finding another club if we do go down. This board of ours are no mugs and we will NOT end up in the same position as Ipswich if we get relegated. Ama
  10. Plus, even if he is any good, I can''t help but think of him as an ex-Ipswich player, and it might be difficult to cheer someone I''ve always booed. Its not like he didn''t do well there, he came through their youth system and was a good player for them. His scoring record isn''t even that great either so he''d really have to pull the stops out to be accepted here.... Hmmmm.
  11. The problem for people starting rumours about loan deals is that Worthy is very very unlikely to use up another of our loan options on one player for a year. Remember we can only have 3 loans at any one time (I think), and can only loan for a year players under 24.
  12. Gazza: "who gives these idiots the power to tell me (and other season ticket holders) that we cannot stand at games?" Much as I hate it and I too would rather stand, I think the answer to your question is ''the law''. Which I think is ironic when you consider that the sad event that brought about this law was largely precipitated by police incompetence. I don''t see why they shouldn''t just put more barriers up, so reducing the forwards movement (pushing) of the crowd. Would it be cynical to suggest that the law makers are perhaps more used to going to the theatre than to football, and therefore don''t understand the desire to stand during games.... Ama
  13. How did he do against Everton last year? Wasn''t it Iwan who gave away two penalties? How many times did Malky get beaten for pace and a goal resulted? And its teams like Everton that we''ll need to beat next year to stay up, not Arsenal. Sure there are better playersaround, but he''s worth a lot to us and, statistically, part of the best defensive unit outside of the Prem last year.... so he may not be pretty, or convincing at times, but he is effective. Ama.
  14. Ominously quiet on the Helveg front? Worthy said yesterday that he was talking to him and should know more in 48 hours. So hardly ominous is it? But yes, I agree with the original post. I always think some people feel that we can just go and get any player under about £3m that we want. There are a list of attributes we need: position/skill, fee, wage demands, availability, attitude, and whether or not he is interested in a move to Norwich.
