  1. What is the cut off age/IQ whereby you put your mobile phone on loudspeaker then hold the phone horizontally with the microphone at your mouth and speaker pointing away from you so you can't hear it? I mean it is moronic at a level that I can't comprehend but I see it every day.
  2. 20 year old kid isn't capable of carrying mediocre midfield in world's most competitive league shocker. Yes, he was out of his depth for us. He was asked to do too much in the role he was given and he was never going to be our saviour. Aside from Normann's super-human efforts in a couple of games we had no one remotely capable last year. I'm afraid to say Nunez may well have also looked equally shell shocked dropped into that shizshow. Neither manager had a better option either - who was going to play instead of him? Gibbs? Let's shoot his confidence in the same way shall we. The Pirlo comparisons are obviously way off the mark and all the press superlatives clearly did not help manage expectations. 10m seems a fair price for a still unknown quantity. Hope he does well.
  3. Quite. The data informs the probability and therefore the odds that the betting company know will return a profit. I'm also not interested in a protracted argument but there are a number of ill informed posts knocking the use of data. Bookies were just a relatable use of probability - a more established use might be insurance risk calculations, or the weather forecast. Same as all data though, if the source data is poor then the prediction will be poor, which might/or might not be the case with the OP. As with most data based modelling it only improves over time.
  4. https://www.onlinebetting.org.uk/betting-guides/how-do-bookmakers-set-odds-and-make-money.html "Bookmakers and odds traders calculate the real probabilities of something happening based on statistics, form, history and ultimately human opinion (their own opinions, other bookies opinions and public opinion). The more data that is available the more likely the bookmaker odds are going to reflect the real probability, if the event has never happened before or there is less data on the outcomes then bookmakers will be more cautious and their odds will be lower than the real probability. For example, football odds, on the whole, tend to be good value as there is a lot of data available. However, odds on say the winner of X-factor are far less certain and so will have higher margins built in, therefore overall worse value for the punter."
  5. Yes and all the bookies closed down never to be seen again 🤦‍♂️
  6. Anyone who mocks the use data to predict results/league positions etc. just needs to consider how successful betting companies are at removing money from people.
  7. Sacked for speaking the truth. I'm not sure it would have gone down well on here had either DF or DS actually said we 'are under-equipped' to compete even if we knew and they knew and the players knew. Poor choice of words, but he's not wrong.
  8. It feels very much like Hull. We'll have all of the play and more chances, but they are going to catch us with long balls and direct play. If we take our chances, as we have been doing in the last couple of league matches, we'll win comfortably. As above, I think Kenny will need the support/protection of someone more robust than Dowell or Cantwell down the left side so Hernandez should start. From whoscored.com on Sunderland's game against Stoke - them losing possession and giving away freekicks around the box sounds ideal for us with Nunez now integrated in the middle, and actually being able to execute at a dead ball situation (what a buy!) Sunderland Strengths (Team has no significant strengths) Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities from through balls Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities from long shot situations Weaknesses Were poor at finishing Were aggressive Were aggressive Lost possession often Gave away a lot of free-kicks around the box Commited a high number of individual errors Styles (Team showed no specific style of play) Favoured long balls Favoured through balls SUN 1 - 3 NOR
  9. TBH, I wouldn't have wanted to take my kids aged under 2 - in fact I can imagine it being a nightmare - but some parents/guardians might not have alternative care arrangements and could otherwise not attend. There are many adults whose social and emotional intelligence is way below those of a 2 year old who are still allowed to get in and it's those people that are the problem.
  10. This is the issue. The companies we directly pay our bills to are not necessarily the ones making the huge profits, this is happening back in the supply line where they are making all sorts of hay. It's why the price cap doesn't work. It is absolutely criminal and genuinely makes me feel sick that we're essentially, and pardon the pun, but powerless. There are small public protests building like https://dontpay.uk/ I wish we had the togetherness that the French have in these situations.

    Cycling

100% I drive, ridden a motorcycle and currently cycle 3 days a week (I can walk too!). Part of my route includes the inner ring road where I use a short section of path rather than have to negotiate 3 lanes of traffic including HGVs doing between 30/60mph, changing lanes and generally being unpredictable, to turn right. I regularly have people mutter under their breath at me 'should be on the road', I can only hear them as I've stopped to allow them to pass before I continue. As you say, there has been a demonisation of cyclists that is in the most part totally unjustified. Actually the government sanctioned the use of paths for cyclists if the road was unsafe https://road.cc/content/news/108119-transport-minister-responsible-cyclists-can-ride-pavement 'Why dont they use the cycle paths' - I cycle through Mousehold which has a cycle path, but only for around 200m, it's in a fairly flat 20mph section and usually has people walking dogs on it, with headphones on and totally unaware of their surroundings. Either side of the cycle path are the two steep inclines where it would actually be useful to get off the road, but of course, there is nothing and cars are frustratedly following someone at 5mph. Driving a car is necessary for some journeys, but electric bikes/scooters are the most sensible and accessible transport for the future and the infrastructure is not there to support it as an option. They have had Riverside Road closed for the best part of a year and done nothing to make it safer for cyclists or scooters, in fact whatever they have attempted at the station is a crash waiting to happen.
  12. Have to admit, on the day Gibson was taking the flack for thier goal, rightly in regards to the loose pass. But on reflection and having seen the replay, Omabamidele needed to have MacLean in his sights over his right shoulder. He got sucked into the ball. I've no doubt he will be our best centre half, but that's a bit of inexperience showing. Not sure if Krul let's him know either. AO could have at least made it difficult rather than clean through.
  13. Pretty sure everyone who played today is a fully paid contracted player. The only loans we have are Hayden and Ramsey neither played. Not sure how you can watch that game and attribute any blame to Dean Smith. First 20 minutes we bossed it, Gibson (selected out of necessity) gifts a goal, heads go down and sucked the air out of us. He made positive changes which worked. The final 20 minutes Wigan barely even got out of their own half. The players he has bought in (assuming he was involved) look like upgrades. What exactly are we blaming Dean Smith for?
  14. Arguably for the last couple of seasons it has been the negligible contribution of goals from anyone other than Teemu that is the issue. Since Todd had his decent PL season we've not had a regular goalscorer other than Teemu. Mark Teemu out of the game, cut off his supply, and we literally have nothing going on. It's been a problem for a while. I thought that Rashica may become that guy, and didn't see Todd's collapse in form coming, I doubt anyone at the club did either. When Idah got a bit of form going last season he looked very handy and a threat as a physical no.10. With him dropping off and picking the ball up, Rashica running off the full back and Teemu on the shoulder of the CB we had options. The players are there. We will eventually need a new no.9 but Teemu is not the problem.
  15. Just a tengental addendum to this - Apparently David Morrissey lives locally and is often spotted around Diss. How big is he and do you reckon he reads the forum?
  16. Attacking central midfielder - that's my inner Championship manager 1998/99 showing its face. It's probably antiquated in terminology but what I was getting at was that the core of our team is currently inadequate, but, we appear to have bought/loaned exactly the right players to correct it.
  17. On paper the squad looks OK with the additional players brought in this window - however we still have a fairly wretched CM issue until the new lads are in the house. Look at any team in the world and the CDM/CM/AMC is what makes it tick, tempo and creativity wise, so trying to get a tune out of the squad will not happen until that is settled/sorted. We seem to have bought the right players in. I think I can be patient enough to see if they are what is missing. Unfortunately it seems that will be another few games.
  18. Yep - a physical presence who can drive and have a go. I'd take Francis back now so hopefully Sara is what I hope he is.
  19. I have a former canary in my head that I think is in a similar mould and his stats were: 2003–2005 Norwich City 73 (14) So approximately 1 in 5, which I would take!
  20. Thumbs up to this thread. Just banked my credit from last season that I'd forgotten about. If no more transfers materialise I take full responsibility.
  21. That is good for a few minutes procrastination. I'm pretty sure that some of those photos are not chronologically correct though!
  22. I'll flip it and give you my most disappointing - Mark Billingham's Thorne series of books are really good but the TV adaption was terrible. Billingham himself picked David Morrissey to play the lead, I have to say he is one actor I take an instant and irrational dislike to, which probably didn't help! Best is Frost though. David Jason is a god among men, if only he could play defensive midfield.
  23. They've only just bought Patterson who's pretty highly rated from Rangers. While Max has more Premier League pedigree, would they be looking at another young right back?
