  1. Just because we're playing teams who aren't in the top 6 now doesn't mean those games will be easy wins. Hull, Bristol City and Preston are on decent runs, so those games will be tough. In many respects the form table is a better guide in the short term than the league table.
  2. Nutty, broadly, the same applies to Lewis - his progress is equally as spectacular and almost forgotten with the emergence of Aarons on the other side of our defence. To be as consistent as he was in his first half season last year is very impressive. £25-30m worth of talent in just those 2 players.
  3. I seem to remember Redmond making Mings look very average in his last game for them against us - the play off semi-final. Can't see us getting £25m for a right back, if we're comparing him to Maddison. And I only think we'll sell if we don't go up.
  4. The biggest thing I've noticed this season is how much more physical he is. Last season he looked a bit lightweight - played some very good passes and his movement was great, but he's been more aggressive and difficult to knock off the ball this year. Technically a very good player too. I certainly wouldn't drop him for Sunday, even if Leitner is fully fit - and I'm a huge fan of Leitner's.
  5. He (Lambert) said in a radio interview I heard this morning, that he wants his team to go out and attack teams & that's what the Ipswich fans want to see - which is a pretty obvious statement I guess. Playing like that will definitely help us! The stats from their last 4 games show that their opponents have had 17 shots (Sheff Wed), 23 (Villa), 16 (Blackburn) and 18 (Rotherham).
  6. Rob - it does say something for Leeds' position to still be there or thereabouts after a run of 5 defeats in 7. We had a little wobble over Christmas by not winning any of the games against Derby, Forest, Brentford and West Brom, yet only lost one of them - in bizarre fashion after the floodlight failure. I agree Sheff Utd looked good against us, but they are inconsistent. Equally, I'd say our performance at Leeds was probably our best of the season. I don't think Leeds played badly on the day, I just think we played better. Of the rest, Boro and West Brom look most capable of being up there at the end of the season. We look very good when we play well and even when the standards drop - as they did over Christmas - we somehow seem to be able to find a way to get a result.
  7. This is all terrific stuff to build the atmosphere for Sunday. As supporters I don't think we should get caught up with all the anti-Lambert stuff. We just need to keep doing what we do and not get put off our stride.
  8. Slightly OTT reaction by Rufus, but yes, it's unlikely that Vrancic deliberately aimed between two sets of legs to score! We did get 3 slices of luck for our goals - I agree that the first would have gone in regardless of the deflection, the second obviously fell beautifully for a tap in and the deflection off the defender slightly changed the direction of the shot, taking it between his legs. We also got some luck with Alioski's well-struck volley just missing and Leeds got lucky with their goal as it shouldn't have been a corner in the first place. A cool striker will outwit a goalkeeper with all sorts of different finishes - look at Hernandez's goal v Sheff Utd - a beautifully executed nutmeg between Henderson's legs.
  9. Reflecting on the game, Boris makes a very good point here. Atwell reffed the game well. Don't think he missed much or got many decisions wrong. Should've booked Douglas for his 3 fouls in as many minutes and it didn't look a corner for their goal, but other than that, I thought he did well. Other refs might have given fouls for when we regained possession for 2 of our goals.
  10. Bit silly to put his head in his face so aggressively though? Should've just pushed or grabbed him with his arms - or put his arm around Godfrey and walk away. Godfrey seemed to have the situation in hand, looked as if he was laughing at Bamford most of the time.
  11. From the media's point of view, Leeds, Derby (sorry, FL's Derby) and Villa will all naturally get more focus. Then there's Sheff U with their unorthodox style and perennial underdog tag. But the teams flying under the radar are us, West Brom and Middlesborough. I can see at least 2 of those 3 going up - I really hope we're one of them. As someone else said in another thread, with most of the others playing each other in the next two or three games, the top six could look very different by the end of February.
  12. At one point on Saturday (early second half I think), I looked and saw that Wednesday had had 17 shots to Ipswich's 2. If (and I think we will), create that many chances, I can't see anything other than a convincing win for us on Sunday. Hernandez, Buendia, Stiepermann and Pukki are so good going forward for us. And even if Leitner is fit, I wouldn't drop Vrancic after his performances recently.
  13. I have to admit, his decision making makes me nervous sometimes. A couple of times on Saturday, he came out for free kicks when Godfrey and Zimmermann were in good positions to win the header (and did in one case). I don't think he needed to come charging out for the one where he got booked. And, obviously, getting booked in the first half meant he couldn't risk getting sent off for time wasting or another foul - especially with a baying crowd. Silly to get involved after final whistle too. Two good saves as well though and his experience is really important with the young defence in front of him.
  14. Fair point - Are Zimmermann and Godfrey covering for Hanley and Klose? Are Vrancic and Trybull covering for Tettey and Leitner? Possibly in both situations, but on the whole they've done really well. The great thing about our squad is that we have good players and good cover in all positions - now including Heise at either left back or left midfield.
  15. I've just read that Wes has has his contract extended to the end of the season at West Brom too. If they are in the playoffs rather than going up automatically, he might not be able to play in the Russ v Wes testimonial!!
  16. I think Farke likes Srebny as a number 10 option, not necessarily a striker. At West Brom, we had Pukki, Rhodes and Srbeny on at the end when we were chasing the equaliser. Fingers crossed we won't have injuries to any more of our homegrown players.
  17. 3 big signings - Johansen was terrific for Fulham last season, Montero and Murphy will do ok - I'm pleased we didn't go for Murphy; that ship has sailed. The other factor that West Brom have that we don't is the ability to pay these 3 players' wages. These 3 are probably on £200,00 a week all together - albeit their home clubs will probably be paying a fair percentage. We just don't have that sort of money available. I agree that the top 2 places look like being between Leeds, WBA and Sheff U and us.
  18. I think EFL rules state that the team needs to be handed into the ref by 1.45pm for a 3pm kick off? (or 75 mins before kick offs at other times). That was one of the things that got Wilder in such a lather about the bus being late to Bramall Lane. Teams are always posted to social media one hour before kick off, though we've had a couple of games where the published team and the team that started the game were different (Klose and Zimmermann not starting). I can only assume that happens with the agreement between the ref and the managers. 3 defeats in 5 games is interesting - I watched them v Derby on TV and they looked very good value for their 2-0 win.
  19. Happy memories of watching this game in Crete with a couple of Boro fans... They were so confident before it started... we shook hands after the game. Redmond's goal is a fantastic team goal - what a pass from good old Steven Whitaker!!
