  1. Completely agree - as soon as there are a couple of defeats, the knives will be out. Even a misplaced goal kick and subsequent punt up field brought sarcastic cheers from the uninitiated in the River End recently.
  2. If (hopefully when) we do go up, I hope we don't panic and demand Farke's resignation when we get a few defeats. A bit of patience is needed. We're not going to be able to cope with the billionaire clubs, and our destiny next season will be defined by games against the lesser clubs and the occasional surprise result against the so called big boys.
  3. All joking aside - I can see them appointing Lambert. Ipswich will love that, continuing their long history of International managers - Ramsay, Robson, McCarthy, Keane (?).
  4. Whether this is paper gossip or not (I think it probably is), I'd imagine Sheff U are in the box seat to keep him if they go up. He's also quite unlikeable - lots of bragging on social media (but then hides his profile if things go wrong - such as making 2 mistakes when they threw away the 3-0 lead at Villa).
  5. Sadly it is of no real interest to Sky or BT, and probably BBC Sport - which is a crying shame and indicative of what is wrong with English football. The Premiership is awash with multi-millions of pounds and players earning immoral amounts of money. The FA, Premier League and broadcasters should be ashamed at how they ignore the rest of the football pyramid.
  6. Apologies, for some reason I thought he was the same age as Vrancic... made me look again though - Stiepermann is 28. Also found this gem about Leitner on his Wiki page - "Leitner started his football career at FC Unterföhring, joining them at the age of two. As a six-year-old, he moved to 1860 Munich" Joined at 2, then transferred at 6!! 😲
  7. Klose made a similar comment on social media after Rotherham, something along the lines of: "Yeah, i wish I was playing more, but happy to be fit again and supporting the team to achieve what we're all aiming for." To be honest, they can't complain as the team is winning. With Klose, I'd suspect his future at the club is dependent upon which division we are in next season. Although, he doesn't fit the 'up and coming youngster' profile that we are modelling, we do still need a bit of experience around - Krul, Klose, Hanley, Trybull, Vrancic, Tettey, Pukki and Rhodes are all thirty or thereabouts.
  8. You have to give a great deal of credit to Farke and his coaching team. I think most of us saw Godfrey as Tettey's replacement in a defensive midfield role. Farke sees his centre backs as more than just stoppers - he demands that they are good with the ball at their feet as well. This enables us to play the way we do, using Lewis and Aarons as outlets and also having trust in Krul as a ball-playing goalkeeper. It also enables Godfrey to move forward confidently into a midfield position when he needs to because of how comfortable he is with the ball. Klose does this very well too.
  9. Its difficult to feel confident, but the facts are there: 8 games to go, 2 'results' better than Sheff U or Leeds. 6 wins in a row. Only 6 defeats all season - just 2 defeats since Christmas. 5 of the remaining games are against teams at 16th or lower in the division. The hardest games are Boro away, Wednesday at home and Villa away.
  10. I have lots of mixed feelings about this - the mandatory yellow card, the actions of the player and the feelings of the ref. Fair play to Maddison for saying what he's said about Michael Oliver - but would he still have taken his shirt off if he'd already been booked? He was taken off after 65 minutes having spent the rest of his time on the pitch on a yellow card tightrope; don't forget they'd already had Harry Maguire sent off in the 4th minute. The mandatory yellow card for removing his shirt - stupid rule, is it worse than a player cupping his ear or celebrating in front of opposition fans (e.g. Oliveira at Portman Road)? However, the players know the rules, so why The ref is in a completely no-win situation - has to book him otherwise he faces sanctions from his bosses.
  11. Am i right that by avoiding a yellow card last night, he's now exempt from suspension for the rest of the season?
  12. You can't underestimate what his experience brings to the defence too. A young defence, being asked (and doing well) to play Farkeball. Of course he knows the best time to hit it long, but was given a poor pass last night and unfortunately didn't deal with it as he ought to have done. That set the tone in the 2nd half with the stupid, ironic cheering from the river end when he launched it long (resulting in us losing possession). There are still too many people in our crowd who need to learn how we play these days.
  13. A Sheff U win and a loss for us would really put the cat among the pigeons. They are on a good run and don't concede many goals. Unfortunately I can see them winning this one. Leeds need to play as well as they've done v West Brom, Derby and Reading the other night and not do play how they did when we outclassed them and when they got beaten at QPR. When they play well, they are very good, but when they don't (or get outplayed as we did to them), they are beatable. They concede goals (as we do) too easily as well. A draw would be ok - but we just need to keep going and winning; it's 5 wins in a row for us, so we just need to keep that going and what ever happens, neither of them will catch us.
  14. Just kick it out of your hands - there's no need to roll it out in front of you.
  15. Absolutely - an early goal would be great. There was even some nervousness before the 1p5wich game, swiftly removed by a goal in the 2nd minute.
  16. "Sweeeeeets!" man was great! The little blue cars round the outside of the pitch. Russell Allison (Snr), the grumpiest groundsman in the world. The fold down wooden seats in the Main stand (pre-fire). Red and blue seats in the South stand (who thought that was a good idea!). Or even, no seats at all in the South stand (when was that?) Having a 'big' game when the no man's land section in the Barclay got filled by away supporters. Yellow nets... Kingsway (just), Clarence Harbour, Ferry Boat...
  17. I'm sure the players know he's been offered (and signed) a new contract, so yes, their focus will be unchanged. For the rest of us, it would give us a big pre-game boost.
  18. Yes, that would have been the ultimate set of results, but I still think a Leeds win on Saturday would be good for us - as long as we win tonight and Saturday of course. It's still all in our hands.
  19. I was primarily hoping these results would put more space between both of us and Sheff U. Of course, Leeds losing as well would have been the ultimate set of results. Irrelevant now, but wins for us tonight and Saturday and a Leeds win on Saturday is still positive for us.
  20. I said just now on another thread that my ideal set of results tonight would be Leeds winning at Reading and Brentford winning at Sheff U. Then Leeds to beat Sheff U on Saturday. Combine that with us winning both our games, would see a 10 point gap from us to Sheff U with 8 games to go. That said, if we win 6 of our last 10 games, we're going to be very unlucky not to go up automatically.
  21. Funny, I'd quite like Leeds to win tonight and Brentford to win at Sheff U. Then if Leeds beat Sheff U on Saturday, that's a lot of points between them and us - assuming we win tomorrow and Saturday of course. Lots of ifs there...
  22. We are overflowing with young strikers: Idah, Abrahams, Spyrou, Fonkeu, Bloomfield. Wonder whether one or more will get the opportunity next season? Much depends on a) which division we're in and b) what happens with Rhodes, Morris and Srbeny. Oliveira's also got 1 more year on his contract as well.
