Anonimity on this board

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity, how many other posters on here do people know in person, or at least met once, or know who they are etc?

I dont live in Norfolk and dont know anybody on the board. Therefore I have complete anonimity. I am just wondering how many people are in a similar position? Or are you all friends (having secret parties without me...?)

I have met maybe 20 or 30 people from here, I regularly go to matches and socialise with 6 or 7.Most folks I have met have been really nice, and its good to bump into them every now and again at away games etc.

I work for the NSA.

I know everybody, but nobody knows me. Some posters internet history gives interesting reading, and viewing...
Is it weird to put faces to personas?
Not really, I''d say anyone choosing to remain totally anonymous is weirder. In fact it helps you understand folks personality and humour better. Some people obviously actively choose to hide. Up to them I guess.

I remember back on 10th April 1999 there was a supporters game organised between Norwich Supporters and Ipswich Supporters. A lot fans came from the old message board that used to exist (as did a lot of the binners). It was weird to meet many of them and to play football with many whom we had only ever had anonymous interaction... There was a binner named BB whom I shall never forget. I seem to remember never thinking of his online persona the same after meeting face to face

I operate from a strange position being a Norwich fan, in that iv never really known anybody else who was one. I was the only one at school and only one, well, wherever iv been. Part of the reason im on this board, its my only opportunity to talk with other fans. In fact the whole concept of someone else supporting Norwich is rather odd for me. Iv often wondered what it would be like where its the norm. Unfortunately my wife wont move to Norfolk!

I know many NCFC fans, but not any posters on here. A meet up was organised recently before a game, which sadly I missed.

The only exception was when I stood next to some other NCFC fans on a train in Birmingham, who were discussing one of my posts!

I just had to interrupt to tell them.  Small world.
I''ll maybe try it another time, it doesn''t take much organising, just a time and a pub name[Y]

We ought to have our message board names on the backs of our replica shirts then we can pick each other out. Which may or may not be a good thing! The Wizard might get a few heckles I imagine. In a friendly banter way obviously!

Different people use places like this for differnent purposes. For some meeting those that you have interacted with online is a natural progression and coming somewhere where everyone (or at least in theory it is everyone) has something in common such as NCFC in our case is a great place to start. For those who are perhaps less confident and who struggle to make themselves heard in ''real life'' places like this are great as that anonymity helps cover up the anxiety that some have in large groups. Either is fine but there are some strange people on both sides that have a problem with the other. Thus the posters who want to meet get derided by some as a kind of ''inner circle'' and those who have no desire to meet get slated because they won''t come to the pub and discuss matters over a pint.
Its something that happens on other forums I use. I have no issue whatsoever with people using places like this purely online, with no real life interaction, no problem. What I do have issue with is people thinking they can behave in ways that they wouldn''t actually behave in real life situations. You don''t have to look very far in the press for stories of people acting in ways online thinking it doesn''t matter as its not real life, well this internet thing has been around a while now, and it is interwoven into the fabric of society, it isn''t just a domain of teenage boys who never leave their bedrooms.A prime example who think its fine to insult and racially abuse on social mediums, but would they walk up to someone in the street and say the same? No, I don''t think so.

''WIZ'' is already on the back of my shirt a1, and all the times I''ve been in Yellows in the last 12 months wearing it no one has approached me yet.

Perhaps they''re over awed![;)]
