What is his injury?

Originally it was just something keeping him out a few weeks wasn''t it?

I''m sure I read in one of the match previews in January on BBC, Tierney was possibly in contention to play.

Think it was a pulled hamstring, lambert made a joke about the longest ever hamstring injury at the end of year dinner i think.have to say i''m starting to worry that part of the rumours may have been true, it''s very weird we have never heard anything more of this injury, has he been abroad to try and get it sorted, has he been training this summer and keeping fit, what on earth is going on?? The injury just gets more and more mysterious.

It was a groin injury. He made a return in a reserve fixture in about April and it flared up again. So he saw a specialist about it. What has happened since then is a mystery.

From what I recall he had an injury that kept moving around his leg think it started with his hamstring then it went to his groin. He had a run out for the ressies towards the end of last season but got taken off after 20mins or so because he was saying that it still hurt. Its all gone quiet since then, so I havent got a clue whats happening with him now i''m afraid.

I would imagine he''ll be back for Pre-Season, at least that was the latest I''d heard, along with Ayala.

I have a feeling that if Norwich had been in need of points at the end of last season he and Ayala would have been pushed back into the first team a little quicker. With saftey secured I wouldn''t be surprised if Lambert basically said that both of them should take a longer break to fully recover and come back this season stronger.

When the first pictures of pre-season training appear next week we''ll know a lot more.

I''m pretty sure Tierney (Groin) and Ayala (Hamstring) both made comebacks in a reserve fixture in April, and were both withdrawn before half time. I think it was said that Tierney would have to have surgery, where as Ayala wouldn''t.

Yup....

Paul Lambert confirmed on Friday morning the season is over for injured defenders Marc Tierney and Dani Ayala.

Tierney has undergone surgery on a persistent groin injury after the left-back broke down in his recent reserves’ comeback at Colney against Sunderland. The 26-year-old has only played a combined total of 90 minutes reserve football since originally damaging his groin in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Wolves back in December. The Norwich boss also revealed centre back Ayala will not play again this season after damaging ligaments in his knee in the same second string game earlier this month.

The former Liverpool trainee’s Norwich spell to date has been badly hampered by injury after the Spaniard suffered knee ligament damage in the club’s August Carling Cup exit to MK Dons before returning to the squad over the festive period. Ayala’s blossoming central defensive pairing alongside Zak Whitbread was then cut short when both picked up hamstring problems in the home Premier League win over Bolton in early February.

Lambert believes it is important both get themselves fully fit over the summer for the start of next season.

“Marc has had an operation, so we won’t see him again,” he said. “Let’s hope we have got to the bottom of it and he will be back for pre-season. Hopefully that operation will cure what he had. With Daniel, he is going to be out for a few weeks so his season is virtually finished as well. That is football. He doesn’t need surgery. Not at the minute. He just needs some rest and hopefully he’ll be okay. It looks like he’ll be out for the season.”

Zak Whitbread (calf) is not fit for selection for this weekend’s daunting test against title-challenging Manchester City. Aaron Wilbraham has had stitches in a gashed eye injury suffered in the 2-1 Easter Monday win over Tottenham. Lambert has no fresh injury concerns from the club’s successful Easter programme. Striker James Vaughan could have a reserve run out next week as he steps up his comeback from a hamstring injury.

“James is still a wee bit away. He hasn’t even played a reserve game. He is training with the first team,” said Lambert. “I think the reserves have got a game next week so we might look at that. He is doing alright at the minute. Zak is still struggling. Aaron seems to be fine. He has some stitches in his eye.”

City were humbled 5-1 at the Etihad in December, but Lambert insists Norwich can mix it with the best on home soil.

“It will probably be different personnel who take the field of play,” he said. “It was 3-1 for a long period and we then lost two goals right at the death so that gave a different reflection to the scoreline. You will get a different game, but no less tough. Manchester City will be strong favourites, like they are most games home or away, but we are certainly playing well enough to give them a fright.”

Was going to say that I thought he had had surgery. I guess we''ll see if Hughton wants to keep him on. I assume he''d be fit for preseason though.

Vital to our defence he was outstanding for the part he actually played in the season. Was easily vying for the pots award before the unfortunate injury he suffered. Hopefully all is well and he participates in pre-season with no reactions!

I''d like to see some proper cover or a rival for his position come in. Drury has gone and Lappin is cover at best.

We need to cover that position.

I was chatting to a guy who speaks to Marc most weeks (works at the ground matchdays) and he said that he had treatment based on some initial scans, but a tear was missed and therefore delayed him coming back but shouldn''t be far off being ready for new season.

Rumours last season were absolute nonsense.
