hang on I think thats a bit harsh to be fair. A more accurate statement could have been "Looks like everyone was wrong again , 2 days to kick of and not a TARGET MAN on the clubs books , well done everybody ." We a have a quick striker who wants to run in behind with OJ, we have a some one who will always score you goals in Cureton ( yes i know he wasn''t brilliant last season but he still scored 14 goals in a poor team) and we have the skilled player whole likes to play in the Rooney style "Hole" so I think that apart from the target man we have a pretty balanced strike force.

Err me. I don''t buy the players. It is also very unfair on Jammie lad he''s half decent!

Rusty has the best record so far, so stop complaining and enjoy the coming season of 0-0 draws.

No what we have is 1 old lower league striker , 1 who is unfit and is not what many would class a goalscorer , 1 young kid who is complete unknown , what a great set of strikers to be taking into your 1st match .

I''m affraid your negativity is clouding your logical judgment as when we get a target man which we will, you will see we have a strike force with a vast diversity in ways which you can use them. It will all become apparent just have faith in Roeder because I do now because I don''t know many managers could have pulled the squad togeather he has with the limited funds.

That lower league striker who was top goal scorer the season before last? another striker who Harry Redknapp is very excited about signing who could do a great job for us, and Arturo Lupoli who not so long ago ARSENAL wanted to keep on their books, and with another striker coming in, possibly ameobi, things are looking good

Even if we did sign Ameobi, he wouldn''t be playing in the opening match this saturday. He went off injured for Newcastle last week but should be fit by the 16th. According to Keegan anyway!

Looks like it wont be Ameobi anyhow ,we will more than likely have to wait for Rosenborgs to sign a striker before allowing Iversen to leave.

FROM THE NEWCASTLE EVENING CHRONICLE

Ameobi has looked demoralised in the pre-season friendlies and a far cry from the player who has hit 46 goals for United, some of them very important indeed.

In fact, this tally is twice as many as any other player currently at St James’s Park, apart from the 27-goal Martins.

But if anyone can lift the former England Under-21 international it’s Keegan, and, as he finalised his plans for tonight’s first friendly at St James’s Park, the United boss told me: “It’s a little bit disappointing for Shola.

“He’s worked very, very hard in pre-season, his first in three years. He’s got a slight problem with his hamstring. It’s a setback, but at least it’s happened this time of year.

“In a week to 10 days, we’ll assess it. Hopefully he’ll be back in light training in a couple of weeks.”

When everyone is fit, Keegan is not badly off for strikers.

And while both West Brom and Ipswich have failed to match United’s £3m valuation, it would not be a surprise if Ameobi still ends up leaving St James’s Park.

That we were told that strikers would be the number one priority.

I''d love him to sign but we simply can''t afford him! The board have paid for all the transfers so far & I can''t see them stumping up a minimum of £1.5m between them for Ameobi. Now if Cullum was here it might be a different story!!!

I don''t believe anyone at the club said that.  GR said after signing Koroma that he wanted 3 more players, one of which would be a target man...he said pretty much the same today on the OS under the "Duo to join Hatters" story: he wants a c/b (the spurs guy presumably, just cover for Doc), a utility m/f who can play in any position, and a striker.

If you recall, after the Spuds game he said it would take 7-14 days (ie 1-2 weeks) for the main striker to come - ie inferring that it might not be before the season started, but of course it might well be tomorrow.

I''m sure we have some money put away somewhere for a new forward. We just had a bid of 1 million turned down for Carroll a couple of weeks ago.

Well with Cullum''s money and some ambition, we might have been signing some quality strikers (certainly by this divisions standards) such as Ameobi an Evans.

I hope you are right, but I do remember us bidding over 2 Million for Billy Sharp and then not having any money all of a sudden!
