*That* set-piece from yesterday's match

Recommended Posts

Free kick in a promising position on the left just outside the Colchester penalty area.Fotheringham and Huckerby over the ball.  What happened next?  Probably the funniest "set piece" I''ve ever seen.  What were they thinking?

Not a lot, evidently. Bet they couldn''t do that again if they tried. It was really funny though so I''ll let ''em off.

I was sitting in the Jarrold in the block next to the Colchester fans so i didnt have the greatest view, but there were quite a few stunned faces where i was sitting. Someting clearly needs to be addressed during training.....Huckerby taking corners and freekicks.....hmm maybe that needs to be changed!

Indeed, got no idea what they could possibly have been thinking of. To be honest our set pieces were terrible, our free kicks mostly went too long. And as for our corners, they either didnt beat the first man or we tried to go short and lost the ball!

For the benefit of Yankee....

Betrand and Hucks stand over the ball, Bertrand runs over the ball hucks runs up and passes it across the pitch outside the area, where nobody in a yellow shirt was. Rolled over to a colchester defender who couldnt quite believe it. Classic.

I think the plan was to roll the ball across the box for Semmy to strike.  Fozzy knew what was going on, Hucks knew what was going on but I think they both forgot to tell semmy.

I want to know why we''re always so bad with set pieces? The number of corners that don''t beat the first man or go straight to the keeper is shocking and this has been happening for ages - surely it''s something that really needs to be sorted out.

It was Fozzy and Hucks standing over the ball.They discussed at great length what they were going to do then passed the ball for someone to run on to and nothing happened. It was very funny. Put it down to a lack of interpreter on the pitch my self.

Definitely. To be honest Hucks delivery isnt upto scratch. Not sure who could take them in his place though?

It''s long been a bugbear of mine that our deadball routines (particularly freekicks) aren''t inventive enough and therefore we so rarely score from them. At least the messed up free kick routine yesterday was trying to be a little inventive, rather than crossing it to the far post as most people expected. What was particularly amusing was that it followed animated discussions and whispering between Hucks and Fotheringham (or was it Bertrand?), with Dion joining in too from a distance.

Sorry was in upper barclay and had forgot my glasses can often get players mixed up, although my worst was mistaking Damien Francis for Paul McVeigh. Needless to say I got my eyes tested the following monday.

Dublin ran over and said something to them just before the ball was kicked. We were sitting in line with the free kick and it looked as though someone was supposed to run out for the ball but the referee was standing in the very position it was set up for??!!

It was a farce;   tooklong enough to set up, including Dublin wlaking 25 yards out of position and taking 90 secs to dictate to Hux what to do,  only to forget to tell the other key person on the set play that he was on;

Hux did as requested and squared the ball only for Semmy to do what the rest of the crowd was doing - watch the slowly rolling ball wondering who was going to attack it - and to realise at the same time we did that it was meant to be him!

An embarrassment.

I''m biased perhaps - but when he was still with us, I thought Lappin was one of our best men at set pieces.
